Aims: To prolong the life of the catheter by dissolving encrustations, alter bladder pH or suppress bacterial growth
Plan: Bladder instillations or washouts must not be used to prevent catheter associated infections Gain informed consent from service user and document in service users notes Give prescribed solution as per catheter maintenance solutions procedure and manufacturer’s instructions Monitor service user throughout to ensure no adverse effects Document procedure has been carried out in service users record Assess the need for further washouts at each administration
