Canada Pension Plan
The CPP retirement pension The Government of Canada established the CPP program in 1966. It is an earnings related social insurance program that provides basic benefits when a contributor to the plan retires or becomes disabled. When contributors die, the Plan provides benefits to their survivors.
What is a CPP retirement pension? A CPP retirement pension is a monthly benefit paid to people who have contributed to the Canada Pension Plan. The pension is designed to replace about 25% of a person's earnings from employment, up to a maximum amount. For 2011, the maximum amount is $960.00. You qualify for a CPP retirement pension if you worked and have made at least one valid contribution (payment) to the Plan and if: · you are at least 65 years old; or · you are between 60 and 64 years old, and you meet the earnings and contributions requirements set out in the legislation. Your retirement pension does not start automatically. You must apply for it. You will receive an application form for the OAS at least six months before you turn 65.

Info, Activities & Services YOU MAY QUALIFY FOR AN EARLY RETIREMENT PENSION: To qualify for a retirement pension between the ages of 60 and 64, you need to do one of the following: · Stop working and receive no earnings · This means that you are not working by the end of the month before the CPP retirement pension begins and during the month in which it begins. o Example: If you want your pension to begin in June, you have to stop working by the end of May and you cannot work during the month of June. OR · Earn less than a specified amount · This means you earn less than the current monthly maximum CPP retirement pension payment ($960.00 in 2011) in the month before your pension begins and in the month it begins. o Example: If you want your pension to begin in Sept. 2011, you need to earn less than $960.00 in both August and Sept. Once you start receiving your CPP pension, you can work as much as you want without affecting your pension amount. However, you cannot contribute to the CPP on any future earnings from employment. eirdre Cuggy is an amazing woman, who is fortunate to have found a career that both feeds her passion and utilizes her innate abilities. And even better, it is close to home. Originally, Deirdre studied Social Work and worked for Bell as a drafts person. Drawing in 2D wasn't stimulating enough because Deirdre dreams in 3D. She can 'see' a piece of furniture in her mind and turn it around to see all sides. Once she has it visualized, out to her shop she goes and hours later she has brought to life what she had imagined. In Montreal where she worked for Bell, she would fuel her passion by doing her own renovations, making decorations and attending craft shows. After moving to Ontario in 1993, her dream of opening a craft shop of her own became a reality and the Cottage Blue was born. She and a group of local artisans opened a cooperative,“With You in Mind”. She worked in a small shop behind her barn at home and would sell in Lancaster. The co-op only lasted a year before it closed and the Cottage Blue moved to Lancaster and operated with Donalda until her retirement in 2005. Deirdre decided to move her shop home. Now she has no commute, lower overhead, and more time to play. She likes to recycle old stuff into new, to re-invent and repurpose things, She takes items perhaps unwanted or unloved and breathes fresh life into them. Her shop is as
Look What I Found A lot of laughter is shared amongst her team of helpers. Other crafty people are drawn to her and help out with some wood work, some painting, some shopping. They fit together in a team like the piece of old tin ceiling painted in a picture frame. You wouldn't have done that yourself necessarily, but now that you see it, it makes sense. When I asked Deirdre what motivates her she said, “I don't sleep much!” Her head is full of ideas, her shop is right near, her visualizations come to life quickly. Customers bring ideas too. She is never bored and always busy. She takes care of “2 cats, 2 ducks, 2 goats, 2 rabbits, 2 dogs, 2 daughters,...1 husband...I'm not crazy!”

unusual as she is. When Deirdre was travelling she saw a lot of craft stores that were like the next town over and all across the country, she said, “Ugh. Too many the same!” At home with her casual clothing splattered with paint, and a hammer in her hands, Deirdre will welcome you to her eclectic collection of accessories. There is not just one style here as she loves everything from urban to primitive country, art deco to shabby chic. You are bound to find something here that will fit your individual style or perhaps you will define a new style for yourself.

Her daughters are both born March 7th. Meaghan, her eldest is a graduate of Concordia University in Art Education and her youngest Kayla is in her second year at McGill. Once when she opened her home to tours, people were surprised her living space wasn't full like her showroom. Again, she said she wasn't crazy. The future is exciting. Deirdre has two events she works toward now. Spring Open House and a Fall/Christmas event. She is hoping to add a September Art event, also. Her regular customers will wait for the events as they get near, which is good as she can play longer to prepare. The spring is coming up, May 13, 14, and 15. She is located just east of Hwy 34 at Brownhouse Corners on Concession 5.
