Lost Villages' Artisan's in the Park

A beautiful day in the park, populated with Artisans, and food and museum buildings- what more can you ask for? The Ladies from the Lost Villages Museum have been preparing such a day to take place on July 9. And naturally, they are praying for a sunny day!

The idea for '*Artisans in the Park*' has been brewing in Sharon Fraser's mind for a while now. She has been researching the local talent and making lists, visiting other Art shows for ideas and finally, it is coming together. The A-Team from The Lost Villages (That's A for Artisan) consist mainly of Sharon, Bonita Eley and Vale Brownell. The addition of these two was necessary to get things happening. Bonita has experience as an event coordinator and Vale is the

They now have an impressive lineup of over 30 confirmed Artisans for their first Juried show. From Photography, twig furniture, candles, pottery, oil paint, knitting and sewing, beadwork, jewelry, to the blacksmith from Upper Canada and Steve Henderson from Prescott who makes furniture and outdoor ornaments from farm equipment and tools featured on Regional Contact recently, you'll find you are pleased to be there, too. All the museum buildings in the Lost Village will be open for touring and some artisans will be in them. There is a bake sale and refreshments available, too. Hop on the bus between 10-1pm for a guided tour with Jim Brownell to the area. This beautiful space is perfect for a Artisan show. Sharon was recently at a show in Stowe, Vermont where there was 500 Artisans. This is what she is aiming for in the years to come.

The Lost Villages Museum, began many years ago, 1977 in the Stuart House around the kitchen table. Seven people were there: Fran Laflamme, George and Nancy Hickey, Donald and Wilda Stuart, John Brownell, and David Moss. They decided it was time to preserve the memories and artifacts from the St. Lawrence Seaway Project of 1954 to 1958, that displaced

6,500 people, six villages and three hamlets: namely Aultsville, Farran's Point, Wales, Dickinson's Landing, Mille Roches, Moulinette, and Woodlands, Santa Cruz, and Maple Grove. Most of the buildings in this Museum came directly from the former villages, and contain artifacts from that time. The history from those communities are kept alive for present generations to experience the time period of 1950's. Alot has changed in 60 years!

The Artisan-Team are pleased to offer this new activity in South Stormont to generate funds for their volunteer organization. They will use this money to purchase artifacts for the museums and for the two university students they sponsor. Come on out on Saturday, July 9th from 10am-5pm, enjoy the fresh air and find an Artisan to admire and purchase from. The choices are many!
