Born and raised in the West Island of Montreal, niece of a visual communication designer, I knew at a young age what I wanted to do in life... It was in my blood! Visiting my uncle was always a treat for me. He would lead us to his projection room, and I was always amazed and captivated by the displays of his works. They would feature the latest of his creations, be they posters, magazine ads, or T.V. commercials. On many occasions, we would be the first ones to view his works, even before they hit the big screen or magazine covers. As an example, we would view T.V. ads that he had created for large firms such as GM or Labbatt or Coca-Cola. Being exposed to all of this, and after many long conversations with my uncle, I quickly realised how important marketing strategies and graphic impact are for business be they big or small. Consequently, I decided to follow in his footsteps and opted for Marketing and Graphic Design as my line of work. Moved to Ontario in 1999 and chose the St. Lawrence Seaway region as my new home In 2004 I started my own bussiness by creating a Real Estate paper dedicated to helping realtors and business entrepreneurs boost their sales, build their reputation and promote their businesses through advertising without spending a fortune, It gave them the tools, tips and media they needed to expose their services and businesses to the public. I’ve always said to my clients “Your success, is my success!”

• Take advantage of favorable industry and consumer trends. Develop seasonal promotions to help your company attract more customers. Joy Seguin is enjoying teaching adults. After working 20 years working with TR Leger Adult Literacy and Employment Preparation Program as a literacy instructor, many prospective students wanted help with computer literacy. The school at the time said let’s try it, but the ‘powers-that-be’ said that students registered must also require literacy support. Many of her students had an education from way back and wanted toupgrade their knowledge, or were not raised on computers like the young generation and now needed to acquire the skills necessary for today's world of technology.

Joy, too, wasn't raised on a computer and knew that she was not alone. Joy learned computer skills while on the job. She knew teaching computer literacy was a good idea for her so she opened a small classroom on Cornwall Center Road beside Sunshine Chinese Restarurant in June 2010. Students came ranging in age from 42 to 84 years, they learned the practical basics of computer, not bits and bytes and operating systems stuff, but useful things, like how to create an email account, use emails and the basics of Word, Excel, PowerPoint.... Joy’s lessons are geared to what the student wants tolearn and at a pace they can keep up with. Some of her students didn’t want anyone to know they were taking lessons because they wanted to surprise their family. Imagine their surprise when they hear, “Grandma! You’re one mail?!” In January this year, Joy was faced with a tough decision.

After being open for just 6 months Joy was given only two weeks’ notice the business she was sharing space with, was closing. She went home to her husband and uncle and explained her dilemma. It was easy-bring it home. Joy now has no commute. Her students went from travelling to the north edge of Cornwall, to now the East edge of Cornwall, and they don’t mind.

Joy really brings joy to the learning. Right from the doorway, you are greeted to a heart-warming sight. Mon Oncle is relaxing after many years of tough farming, in a reclined chair, with his beloved cat, Ti-putt, in his lap. The Dutch ship Avonborg was the first vessel through the St. Lawrence Seaway when the system opened Wednesday March 22nd for the 2011 navigation season, the 53rd season of operation. The Avonborg carried a deckload of wind turbine components destined for Burns Harbor, Ind. All told, 10 vessels have transited the seaway in its first two days, eight inbound trips and two outbound. So, have you got that itching urge to uncover your pleasure boat yet? There is nothing worse than being at the dock with a boat-load of people and turning the key and hearing...rrr..rrr..rrr...and nothing. It is likely this will happen if you do not take the time to de-winterize your boat properly. Do an inspection before setting out on the first trip of the season. Since you still have time before getting her wet, and to avoid any embarrassment and frustration, use the following pre-launch checklist to get your boat as ready for the boating season as you are.

Oil Check

• If you did not change the engine oil when you put the boat up for the season, now is the time to do it. Make sure you change the oil filter also. Check the oil in the outdrive.

Battery Inspection

• Reattach the cables. Make sure the terminals are not corroded. If so, wipe them clean. If your battery takes water, fill it up. A dry battery is a bad battery. (I learned that the hard way.) With a battery tester, check the volts and amps. Does it have juice? If it is charged and still no luck, it may be time to buy a new battery.

It’s Tow Time! Six Top Trailer Towing Safety Tips For Hookin’ Up

1. The most important thing you need to know is the towing capacity of your car, truck or SUV. Pulling too much weight is extremely dangerous. Your vehicle has certain tow ratings that must match the hitch system you choose. If you don’t know the towing capacity of your vehicle, just check the owner’s manual. The goal is not to exceed the vehicles towing capacity. This includes the trailer and its contents. So, if you’re unsure about the trailer weight, just pull into a public scale and find out.

2. Make sure the hitch ball is secure in the mount before towing. The lock nut & washer need to be torqued to the manufacturer’s specs depending on the shank size of the ball. A standard ratchet or crescent wrench won’t supply the sufficient torque needed, so make sure you have a torque wrench to tighten it up correctly! While you’re at it, make sure the pin and clip securing the ball mount are intact. 3. When trailer hitches and their connections are not properly secured, they can cause serious accidents. That’s why safety chains are extremely important in the event your trailer becomes disengaged from your tow vehicle. These

metal chain links vary in length and width, so make sure you chose the right size chain for the weight of your trailer. Just criss-cross the chains under the trailer tongue and attach to your tow vehicle. Make sure they don’t drag and give’em a little tug……..it’s that simple. Safety chains are required everywhere.

4. Improper braking is another hazard to avoid. The more weight you pull, the harder it is to stop. When purchasing a trailer or camper, opt for one that has brakes. And if you do, most likely you will need a braking system in your tow vehicle. Most places require trailer brakes when the fully loaded weight exceeds a certain limit.

5. Lighting is critical for trailers because the rear facing lights of the vehicle are typically obstructed by the trailer. Laws require trailers have specific lights, which means tapping into the tow vehicles electrical system. Be sure wires or plugs don’t scrape the ground. Connections will get dirty, so keep’em clean.

6. The proper loading of your trailer is essential to safe towing, as unbalanced loads can cause serious trailer sway.

Balance it up by loading from side to side and along the length of the trailer. Place the heavier goods in the front and over the axles since this is the strongest area.
