he dynamo behind the Homefinder name, Sylvie Legault, happens to be my boss. She was born in West Island of Montreal, and for the last three years, has made Prescott her home. Early on, her motivation to become a graphic designer came from her uncle, Richard Proulx, a successful creative graphic design director working on prestigious accounts such as Labatt’s, Air Canada, Hyundai, Pepsi... on print, radio and TV. Thus inspired, Sylvie enrolled in 4 year program in Graphic Design and Marketing at the CEGEP of Riviere-du-Loup , graduating with honors in 1996. Following school, Sylvie went to work at various print shops and graphic design firms both in Quebec and Ontario. While at school, she met Melanie, who eventually was to become Sylvie Legault employed by the Homefinder. After graduating, Melanie moved to Silicon Valley California where she perfected her skills in graphic design by working and taking additional courses. After 4 years at Silicon, she returned to Montreal to pursue her career in graphic design. Sylvie’s move to Ontario found her in Cornwall in 2000 working at Cornwall City Press and a few years later at Angel Printing. In 2004 an event took place that turned her world upside down. Her mom who was her closest friend and confidant passed away. Battling a deep

sense of loss and depression, she was driven by the words her late father had once said to her before his death. “Get your own business and be your own boss”. So in an effort to get over her mom’s passing, she researched different avenues and saw a need for a paper dedicated to Real Estate in her region. Thus was born “The Homefinder” in November 2004. It was a weekly paper geared at serving the Real estate community and its associated service providers. In the very beginning, Sylvie was a “one woman show”: sales, design, delivery, collection. She did it all week after week with her young son Jonathan at her side and a little help from friends and family. From its humble beginnings and by sheer perseverance, The Homefinder slowly gained recognition and respectability to the point that it has become a household name. In 2008, a client of the Homefinder, Pierre Boucher, became a partner, or as he likes to say, “I liked the company so much, I joined it.” Later that year, it was decided to incorporate the business. With the incorporation came expansion. In the summer of 2009 The Homefinder was introduced to North Bay Ontario and in Leeds and Grenville. It was then that Melanie came on board as graphic designer to help out, the workload being too much for Sylvie. Also in 2009 to pursue another dream of hers, Sylvie created Infinity Communication & Design, a design company specializing in the printing of business cards, pamphlets, rack cards, etc…. as well as offering marketing services. this ever expanding move, Jessica “ graphics”, Terry in “bookkeeping”, and your’s truly originally deliveries and now Client Care Co-ordinator, all joined the Homefinder Team. The family of papers grew too: in June she launched Easyfinder, and in September she acquired Eastern Ontario Homes magazine and hired Joseph Boucher on deliveries. Earlier this year, Sylvie was fed up with various web designers’ slow progress, so she learned how it do that, too, in her spare time. Keep watching the company websites to see her good work. You’ll find Sylvie is a leader in technology. The Homefinder was the first free virtual copy in Cornwall back in 2004. All her papers are as popular online as they are in print now. Sylvie is enjoying her life in the country, and the progress of her company. She spends almost equal time behind the computer screen; answering emails, approving the papers before printing, improving her websites, and the steering wheel; visiting clients and delivering her papers. Sylvie is a proud President. She is proud of the team she has assembled: Pierre, Melanie, Jess, Terry, Joe, and of course this writer and is ever looking forward to new challenges. Her pride also stems from the fact that our clients are pleased with the work of the graphic department, the distribution being far and wide, and the team, made of hard working, reliable and self-regulators. As proof of this, she was able to suddenly take off this past summer to take delivery P&S Eternity, her new yacht and passion. In spite of her absence, everything worked out fine!
