Feel Spring, Think Summer...

I sense it every morning, I wake up at roughly the same time without setting an alarm clock. The room is becoming increasingly brighter each day... a wonderful sign.

The progression toward summer is becoming more apparent each day. The long-awaited tulips have arrived and have bloomed. Oak trees are budding like crazy. I am a spring person. I love the smell of the air. I love the tender green of emergent leaves. I love the fact that the world is bathed in sunlight past 7 p.m. And, spring brings some of my favorite things like gardening and landscaping… Last weekend I spent mother’s day with my loved ones outside in our rose garden busy painting the benches. We were all enjoying the sun and our peaceful country setting.

Obviously you won't be able to get to everything on your list first thing this spring. You may have to wait until summer, fall, or even next year to complete some of these tasks. You may as well go ahead and number your list and establish your priorities. This will help you stay on track for your goals later in the summer.

Whatever you do, don't overwhelm yourself. Spring is suppose to be a fun season, where everything becomes alive. Take advantage of the sun, charge your battery after this long and cold winter we just had and think positive! Enjoy your Spring during this month of May, I know I will!

While people 65 and older still make up less than 10 percent of the active Internet universe, their numbers are on the rise. In the last five years, the number of seniors actively using the Internet has increased by more than 55 percent. Among people 65+, the growth of women in the last five years has outpaced the growth of men by 6 percentage points.

Not only are more people 65 and older heading online, but they are also spending more time on the Web. Time spent on the Internet by seniors increased 11 percent in the last five years, from approximately 52 hours per month in November 2004 to just over 58 hours in 2009.

In Cornwall, there are many fascinating people. And some come from out of the town to set up shop. Two such people are Eryck Gagnon and Karine Lapré. They drive in everyday from St. Zotique, about a ½ hour drive. Eryck and Karine relocated their Seaway Liquidation business to the Leduc Shopping Center on 11th and Paul. They started in the back part and moved to the front when space became available.

degree in Psychology. Eryck worked in computer stores until 2002 and worked in a Humane shelter for ages 0-99. In 2008 he became the manager. The shelter absorbs the balance of his free time. Mostly runaway teens, kicked out teens, and victims of drug, alcohol or sexual abuse are most of the clients. The shelter is kept full with people referred to it. Eryck is pleased with the graduates of the program, there are few repeaters.

Their hopes for the future are to grow the shelter and the Liquidation Center. Come and see them on 11th Street. There store is constantly improving with new stock arriving regularly. But watch out for the 3 lb chihuahua guard dog named Pepito!

Eryck has travelled alot, too. He went to university in Chicoutimi, worked in Paris for an outreach program, worked in Monton as a Muscular Dystrophy caretaker, and went west to Calgary for jobs but came back because there was no nightlife! He heads to Florida to visit his grand father occasionally.
