The Steinway Cruise Exclusive concerts on board and ashore London (Portsmouth) – Hamburg 11 June to 17 June 2018

Young pianists, exclusive concerts and relaxation under sails – a composition of its own The nostalgia of a genuine windjammer with the comforts of a modern cruise ship – with the Sea Cloud ii you can have it all. Sailed by hand in the traditional fashion, this three-masted barque offers an experience to inspire true enthusiasts and novice cruise goers alike. The 3,000 square metres of sail, four spacious decks, generously equipped cabins, and a relaxed environment convey the feeling of boundless freedom on the high seas. The majestic windjammer is an expert in musical cruises; over the years, many renowned musicians have played the Steinway grand piano in the ship’s lounge, coaxing from it the most enchanting melodies. But is there anything more exciting than being present right at the start of a great artist’s career? To make this possible, the Steinway Prizewinner Concerts Network was launched, true to the motto: Why wait to see and hear artists until the tales of their fame are all over town? In 2018, you can take advantage of the unique opportunity to experience live two highly talented young artists that have been chosen by Steinway – in London during a private concert in the stylish ambiance of a traditional British club, as well as during two further concerts on board the Sea Cloud ii on its journey from Portsmouth to Hamburg.

Honfleur, paradise for painters

With its colourful fishing boats and soaring timbered houses, Honfleur offers visitors a truly picturesque setting. The enchanting little port is considered the cradle of impressionism – Eugène Boudin, Monet, Renoir and Cézanne met here to paint. In addition to enjoying the abounding art, don’t miss out on Normandy’s culinary masterpieces: cider, calvados and camembert. Bruges: UNESCO World Heritage Site

Be it English cloth merchants, Hamburg’s moneybags or traders from Castile, trade has been at the heart of life in this Hanseatic city for centuries. Even today there are still great shopping opportunities in the charming medieval old town of Bruges. As you stroll past ramparts, windmills and romantic canals, you will discover all sorts of artistic and culinary delights in the small boutique shops. Panoramic cruise up the Elbe

The Sea Cloud ii glides slowly up the river Elbe and reaches the port of Hamburg, passing the picturesque banks of the Elbe with their green dykes, the Airbus grounds, stair-lined Blankenese and the patrician mansions of the Elbchaussee. At her mooring by the “Überseebrücke”, she is greeted by Hamburg’s new landmark, the “Elbphilharmonie”.

At Steinway every piano is a masterpiece

For many the Steinway name is synonymous with the piano – and for good reason, as ever since Henry E. Steinway and his sons founded their company in New York in 1853, Steinway & Sons has produced firstclass pianos, every one of which is a masterpiece with character. Thanks to their passion for innovation and unfailing attention to detail, today Steinway is considered the founder of modern piano manufacturing. Promoting a new generation of pianists

Steinway & Sons is committed to promoting young pianists and supports them through the Steinway Prizewinner Concert Network. Although many young musicians have a great deal of talent and flair, they mostly remain unknown in the music world. This is where Steinway comes into play: Highly talented musicians are selected in first-class piano competitions and are given the opportunity to introduce themselves to a broad audience at international performances.

Two pianists and one expert featuring on this cruise: Concert in London: Yekwon Sunwoo Gold medalist of the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, 28-year-old Korean pianist Yekwon Sunwoo has been hailed for “his total command over the instrument and its expressiveness” (San Francisco Examiner). A powerful and virtuosic performer, he also, in his own words, “strives to reach for the truth and pure beauty in music” and hopes to convey his deeply-felt emotions to audiences. Born in Anyang, South Korea, Yekwon Sunwoo began learning piano at age 8. He gave both his recital and orchestra debuts in 2004 in Seoul before moving to the United States in 2005 to study with Seymour Lipkin at the Curtis Institute of Music. He earned his bachelor’s degree there and his master’s at The Juilliard School with Robert McDonald, and also studied with Richard Goode at the Mannes School of Music. He currently studies under Bernd Goetzke in Hanover. Yekwon Sunwoo has performed as soloist with famous orchestras, is an avid chamber musician and has appeared in recitals, among others at Carnegie Hall. In addition to the Cliburn gold medal, Yekwon Sunwoo has won first prizes at the 2015 International German Piano Award in Frankfurt, the 2014 Vendome Prize awarded at the Verbier Festival, the 2013 Sendai International Music Competition, and the 2012 William Kapell International Piano Competition. During this season, the Steinway Prizewinner Concerts take Yekwon Sunwoo to major international venues such as the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the BOZAR in Brussels and the Philharmonics in Luxembourg. The first stop is a concert at a private club in London on 11 June 2018, where Yekwon Sunwoo will perform exclusively for the guests of the Sea Cloud ii.

Concerts on board: Anna Tsybuleva Anna Tsybuleva was born in 1990 and grew up in the small science town of Nizhny Arkhyz in Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Russia. She started piano studies at the age of six with her mother Svetlana Tsybuleva. From 2003 Anna continued her studies at the Moscow Central Music School and later at the Moscow State Conservatory graduating with top honours and “the best student 2014” award. She also studied with Claudio Martinez Mehner at the Basel Music Academy, where she graduated in June 2016. Winner of the 2015 Leeds International Piano Competition, Anna Tsybuleva is swiftly becoming one of the brightest young stars in the piano firmament. Since winning the Leeds, she has performed widely in Europe, Russia and the Far East, in major venues such as Wigmore Hall in London, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Ruhr Klavier Festival in Germany, Tonhalle Zürich, at the Hong Kong Concert Hall and Shanghai Grand Theater. She has also appeared with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, Basel Symphony Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic and Mariinsky Orchestras. With future engagements including the Hallé and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras in the UK, and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Anna Tsybuleva is wowing audiences worldwide with her combination of deep musicality, artistic integrity and technical brilliance. She will be giving two concerts on board Sea Cloud ii. Lectures on board: Ulrich Gerhartz After completing his education at Steinway & Sons, the Master Piano Maker Ulrich Gerhartz first worked in London in the Restoration Centre, then transferred to the “Concert” department and was promoted to Director of the Concert & Artists’ Service two years later in 1994. He keeps close working relations with the world’s best pianists, regularly visits the research departments in Hamburg and supports pianists during their concerts all over the world, also looking after some of the grand pianos in the hoisting concert halls. On board, he will give several entertaining talks on the history and construction of the piano.

All manual work, true seafaring nostalgia “Set sail!” – As soon as the captain of the Sea Cloud ii orders the crew to climb the rigging, our guests instantly crane their necks. Because the crew’s ascent into the shrouds marks the beginning of a spectacle that is much more than just show. The Sea Cloud ii is a celebration of true sailing. When the ship was built 16 years ago, we deliberately decided against a fully-automatic rig; this ship’s sails are hoisted and lowered the traditional way – by hand. This allows our guests to enjoy the romantic tall ship experience in refined exclusivity. Our 29 de luxe outside cabins, 16 junior suites and two owner suites accommodate a maximum of 94 guests on this voyage of relaxation.

Genuine, personal service with style It is the little luxuries that turn a cruise into an extraordinary experience. From our opulent décor and exquisite cuisine to our first-class service, on board the Sea Cloud ii we offer an exclusive holiday that is designed around you. Part of the unique appeal of a private yacht is the intimacy of the setting and that feeling of being amongst friends. Life aboard the Sea Cloud ii is no different, with its sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. Our crew of around 60 takes pleasure in spoiling you and is there to ensure that our guests from around the world enjoy a unique and highly individual cruise experience. In this intimate atmosphere even the most discerning demands are met with ease.
