STUART LOUGHRIDGE
Stuart Teal Loughridge (b.1978) was raised in Colorado. His father, Leon Loughridge, is a well-established painter and print-maker based in Denver. Stuart was steeped in the arts from the earliest of ages, working in his father's studio. He also worked for many years in his father's frame shop, building hand-crafted frames and developing an expertise in custom framing.
Stuart moved to Minneapolis in 1999 to begin his formal training at the Atelier. He thrived in this academic environment. In 2001 he opened a studio in St. Paul and began his full-time career as an artist. Based in the West 7th neighborhood of St. Paul, Stuart employs a variety of mediums in his studio.
A skillful print-maker, Stuart works primarily in the medium of copper-plate etchings. He also works with oil paint and is an accomplished watercolorist. Employing any and all of these mediums he creates landscapes as well as figurative work.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As usual I wish to present to the viewer with as wide a range of media and genre as I am able. This show will focus on printmaking along with a selection of paintings in watercolor and oil, with attention to the relationship between the field sketches and the studio works. And all pieces will be expertly framed.
