Windham, NY is a bit of a best-kept-secret. High in the Catskills it sits with its great ski mountain, adventure park, restaurants, golf and a calendar of fun local events. Windham sits in the northwest corner of Catskill Park. With 35 mountain peaks over 3500 feet above sea level, Catskill Park is an ancient natural wilderness with hundreds of miles of trails and paths and thousands of acres of peace and quiet.

Windham is a golf destination. Just down the hill from Whisper Creek is Windham Country Club, an 18-hole course with beautiful mountain scenery. It’s a public course with a private vibe. The club offers several different membership levels based on the course amenities members plan to use. There’s a pool, driving range, lockers and bag storage, and the option to rent a cart to use anytime.
While it’s true that Windham has many visitors and part-time residents, Windham is not one of those towns that becomes a ghost town on the weekend and is without a strong sense of community. It’s the type of place where everyone is welcome. Regular local events, many sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses keep Main Street lively. Want to lend a hand? There are plenty of ways to get involved in local charities, politics, arts groups and clubs.

Windham is the place people gravitate for outdoor adventure in the Catskills, and there’s so much adventure right outside the door of Whisper Creek. Beyond the mountain, Windham’s Adventure Park offers tubing, ice skating, and snowmobiling. And, if variety is important to you, both Hunter Mountain and Belleayre Mountain are within easy driving distance.
Creeks and streams dot Windham’s landscape. There are plenty of beautiful places to dip your toes in the water while you read a good book. Both North South Lake in nearby Haines Falls and Colgate Lake in East Jewett are popular swimming and boating spots, and of course, Caaterskill Falls - the most famous waterfall in the Catskills - isn’t far away.

SKI-VENIENCE Skiers and snowboarders love the thrill of gliding down the mountain with speed and grace. It’s incredibly freeing. But as soon as they take those boards off, they have to live the downside of their sport - schlepping their gear while wearing ungainly equipment. The ski schlep - no one likes it! Whisper Creek’s locker room is just off the elevator bank and has room for lots of gear plus heated boot dryers. Its doors let out on Windham Mountain’s Whisper Run Trail, where residents can catch “The Magic Carpet Ride” t-bar lift up to the chair lifts of Windham’s two peaks. Windham Mountain has gained a reputation as the most of refined of the Catskill ski resorts. 97% of the 285 skiiable acres are covered by Windham’s stateof-the-art snowmaking equipment, making for great conditions on the 54 trails and 6 terrain parks. There’s plenty of room in the lodge, even on days when there’s a crowd and a band playing. The latest addition to the mountain is a Ski & Ride simulator, a virtual reality ride tailored to the level of the user. Users can take on the bunny slope or a World Cup course.

THE CLUB ROOM The lounge/club room is the perfect place to put your feet up. This room was designed to host multiple parties at once. Seating areas are centered around gas fireplaces, big-screen TV’s, the kitchen, game tables, and in book-reading nooks; whatever is on the agenda, there’s a spot for it in the club room. On the weekends, breakfast is served to residents so they can get out and get going.

THE GYM Whisper Creek’s gym is stocked with well-maintained state-of-the-art exercise equipment, and what a view! Regardless of the season, this gym is an escape. It’s perfectly sited right next to the elevators, so you can keep your post-workout sheen to yourself.
