We’re going to let you in on a little secret that Canungra residents don’t want you to know. Ok, that’s not entirely true as these folks are good eggs with salt of the earth vibes, but if we were them and someone told the rest of the GC about our fave local haunt, we’d be mildly miffed. Sorry hinterland friends but prepare for an onslaught of shoppers who may or may not strip the shelves dry and we’re sitting confidently on Team Former. May we introduce you all to My Country Escape, an enchanting retail haven filled with fashion, accessories, homewares, and all things beautiful.

Set away from the hustle and bustle – but not so far you’ll blow your shopping budget on fuel – My Country Escape certainly lives up to its idyllic name. A beautiful boutique with a range of products and brands you won’t find everywhere else, it’s certainly no accident it was named 2021 Retail Store of the Year of the Scenic Rim.

With more charm than George Clooney and Carrie Bickmore’s lovechild, we dare you to simply pop in for a brisk browse. The motto here is ‘relax, browse, stay a while’ and okay if you insist #RudeNotTo. You’ll lose yourself in the stunning fit out, welcoming feels, and irresistible array of treasures at every turn. Anything but vanilla or run-of-the-mill, everything is unique, the highest quality, and ever changing.

Think clothing and accessories with an easy-going, timeless, trans-seasonal feel and brands like Humidity, Oliveetjulie, Namaste, Brave & True, The Shanty Corporation, LJC Designs, Stitch & Hide, Rare Rabbit, Pink Woods and Emma Bridgewater to name a few. Proud owner Michelle Roper-Dennis took over the shop eight years ago, going the whole shebang five years later and buying it outright #bossbabe. This enabled her to fully renovate the space to suit her vision, whilst keeping its rustic charm intact. The gorgeous country blue weatherboard exterior with white accents is straight outta Compton Home Beautiful magazine, proving that first impressions are very telling. Inside is a wonderland of white, rustic timber and rattan lighting, vertical VJ panels and srsly, high ceilings with exposed beams just speak to us. In this case, they’re saying “you need everything you see” and yeah, we got that memo already.

Another standout is the old-fashioned service which we mean in the best possible way. The team are warm, friendly, sunny, and have a beautiful rapport with customers. They know their stock inside-out and will always go the extra mile, which is increasingly hard to find and lord help us, we’re sounding more and more like our parents every day. Oh and if you can’t make it to the bricks and mortar store for some reason, fear not because you can still immerse yourself in My Country Escape goodness via their online store.

So the word is officially out. My Country Escape is not just the darling of the hinterland and its army of loyal clientele, but a true (country) blue hued Gold Coast treasure.
