Joe’s Deli

JOE’S DELI SANDWICHES ARE A CUT ABOVE THE REST

We have a New York state of mind thanks to this Pacific Fair newbie.

When someone tells you a shiny new traditional Italian style deli is coming to the GC, you pay attention! So people, drop everything because it’s time to say “nice to meat you” to Joe’s Deli!

Opening recently at our fave shopping haunt Pacific Fair, it’s well worthy of a look and taste for several reasons.

Firstly, the fit-out is a vibe (but more on that later), and its founder Patrick Killalea has been chef to a rollcall of the who’s who of Hollywood. We’re talking Gwen Stefani, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, Pink Floyd, Rhianna and Madonna and by god, if his nosh is good enough for Rhi Rhi and Madge, we’re all over it like prosciutto on a platter!

The unique menu offers up a plethora of locally sourced and imported deli delicacies, influenced by Italian and American street food with a south pacific influence. But don’t mistake it for a grab-and-go joint, because one of the highlights is dining in and absorbing your surrounds. Think New York-style booth seating, hand-painted sign writing, and 90’s hip hop music and OMG, you totally had us at 90’s hip hop!

We’re talking everything from Deli Subs, Sandwiches, Piadinas, Sliced Meat Platters, Salads and a range of sides.

Give the Original Deli a try, with classic salami, Mortadella, cured ham, iceberg lettuce, provolone, pickled cucumber, red onion, yellow mustard, aioli, jalapeno and sweet pepper.

Or if you’re a sucker for seafood (us), get stuck into a Buffalo Bug Po Boy with southern fried Morton Bay bugs, lemon pepper, buffalo hot sauce, pickled red onion and ranch dressing *licks lips*.

If you’re passionate about a Piadina, we reckon the Old City will hit the spot, with spicy salami, nduja, sauteed onions and mozzarella.

And why not go the full monty (not really – please remain clothed) and grab some Proscuitto Mac Cheese Croquettes with truffle oil on the side.

After all that savoury goodness, you’ve earned yourself something sweet, and the Joe’s Cookie Sandwich definitely fits the bill.

If you’re thirsty (always), grab a Joe’s pilsner, ginger beer, local beer, seltzer, an apple and blueberry cider brewed in Northern New South Wales, or sample something from the organic wine menu. Plus, Joe’s will launch hidden menu items through its Instagram that will only be available for a limited time by using a password system. How cool?! We’re down for this sort of intel.

Now back to the owner coz we know you enjoyed all the name-dropping as much as we did. The talented Patrick Killalea certainly has a lot more on his resume than cooking for A-listers. He’s been in the ‘coalface’ of his craft for many moons, working as a chef in the beautiful Sardinia which inspired him to open his own delicatessen!

Unable to find the flavours, quality and deli experience he loved so much, he spent almost two decades plotting and planning (and side note; launching the infamous ‘Milky Lane’ burger brand), and ta-da; Joe’s was born. And for those wondering who Joe is, it’s Pat’s dad and we love it when entrepreneurs pay homage to their parents.

There’s really only one thing left to do and that’s to try Joe’s for yourself. Trust us, this one well and truly makes the cut.
