“We are entering a time of transition. One where we come to accept the constancy of change, conflict, and uncertainty. We learn to adapt, seeking out products, environments, and modes of expression that can respond to our every need or desire and prep us better for what may come tomorrow. Amidst the chaos, we look for ways to safeguard our well-being, from taking on solitary and creative pursuits to escaping through heightened forms of storytelling. As norms and traditions get upended, we start to lay the groundwork for more compassionate societal structures that lead us toward greater equity and inclusion”
ABOUT THIS GUIDE
Upon this new landscape, MMGNET has partnered with the global forecasting agency FS (Fashion Snoops) to lead the way into the Fall/Winter 24-25 season with an “Intro to the Season” Designed as a trend & industry insights preview, this guide kicks off with an overview of the leading shifts in manufacturing followed by the four overarching design aesthetics and cultural signals that will frame the upcoming season; providing a “first look” preview into how each theme will influence trends in raw materials, constructions, finishes and detailing. Finding newness in overarching design drivers including craft, wellness, sustainability, expression and technology, this guide acts as a complement and preview to our full length digital session, where these concepts and directional considerations will be discussed in depth.

SENTIMENTAL With so much uncertainty in our daily lives, we find ourselves coveting legacy that endures—nostalgia that gives us a break from a darker, tougher reality. We lean into the personal intimacy that comes with crafting, making, and rehabbing things. Sentimental disrupts our concept of heritage by creating reverie out of realism. This is a fresh way to reimagine and reinterpret traditional troupes of design. Through modernly-adorned surfaces, parodies on the classics, a focus on recovered craftsmanship, and a comfortable coexistence with other cultures, we’re left with a new form of maximalism—cool, modern heirlooms of heart and soul, and complex fragments of imagination that improve our outlook on the world.

IMMERSIVE Our perspective of the world used to be limited to a small radius around our birthplace. For thousands of years, humans rarely traveled further than the most familiar of surroundings. Technology has changed that. Our very existence is unbound by location. Web3 innovations are launching our imaginations into new realms. Immersive is about a new state of existence that’s neither physical nor abstract. It’s a necessary way of thinking and being to move us through the dire straits of reality. This new playground of the senses we are immersed in is full of daring dreamscapes and cosmic glamor that inject us into places we never thought possible. Even nature is viewed through a high definition, larger-than-life lens with wondrous colors and slightly bizarre beauty.

CHAOS It’s often said that chaos feeds life. It breeds a vastness of possibilities, pushing us to be more comfortable with the unknown. Without the instability in our daily surroundings, we wouldn’t have an appreciation for protection and belonging. We have an interesting relationship with chaos—both frightened and inspired by its savage beauty. As distressing as it is, the aftermath of chaos and destruction signals a creative reset. We look to repaired surfaces, ruptured textures, ashen patterns, fragmented construction, brutalist shapes, and industrial craftsmanship to beckon us back to the discord of design. The anarchy of the universe can be unnerving and liberating at once, expanding our point of view and disrupting our outlook.

ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT Corporate criticism and a distrust in hierarchical institutions continues to take root amidst more visible inequalities. These sentiments heighten the importance of supply chain transparency, equitable labor force treatment, and the utilization of resources to offset social, economic, or environmental imbalances.

BRUTAL AMBIGUITY A state of ongoing uncertainty cultivates a normalization of constant change, not only for consumers, but businesses too. As traditional approaches are becoming obsolete, the next evolution of supply chain management will wield AI and blockchain technology to reduce risk, iron out inefficiencies, and lower overall costs.

FRAGILITY Against the juxtaposition of the rough, rugged and robust, Fragility shines a light on restorative surfaces, luxurious luster, and design that’s plush but also steadfast—exteriors that have extra give while looking so graceful. Utility is essential because it protects and prepares us, but a new level of romance and softness makes for a slower reveal of efficiency. A stunning range of motion in fabrics and shapes puts emphasis on restoration, while healing is accented through slow repairs, flexible mending, and soft shattering. Bringing joy and nature into otherwise brutal or aggressive spaces demonstrates how much power we really have over our perceptions. Fragility is the reminder of how multifaceted the world can be—impassioned and distressing, and everything in between.

Embracing quality in design we find strength and a quiet reminder that simplicity can also be complex. On the surface materials appear straightforward, but uncover so much more when engaged with. From malleable crepes that interpret the softness of skin to wellness fibers like Seacell that are enriched with essences to care for the skin, all material properties are deeply considered. Delicately considered stitches and metallic coatings adorn surfaces with simple elegance and shine.
