COUNTRY GUIDE: PAKISTAN

PAKISTAN

Pakistan is the seat of ancient culture, home to some of the world’s earliest human civilizations, but this modern republic remains stable, with the 23rd largest economy in the world. Here, we highlight Pakistan for its exceptional manufacturing capabilities.

Modern Infrastructure

Pakistan also offers a vast range of quality fabrics including knits as well as denim. Competitive labor costs allow manufacturers to pass on cost savings to clients without sacrificing quality. Vendors remain in compliance with the requirements of major buyers. Other savings are realized through efficient production techniques. Pakistani manufacturers also have a reputation for maintaining their delivery commitments.

Pakistan is ideally situated, with a 650-mile coastline along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman, sharing borders with economic powerhouse neighbors China and India • Six ports, including the Port of Karachi • 151 airfields, including Jinnah International Airport, Islamabad International Airport and Allama Iqbal International Airport

Sustainable Sourcing Programs

Pakistan’s apparel industry and its partners has a true commitment to sustainability. The World Bank’s International Finance Committee signed an agreement with Gap Inc., in 2018 to increase resource efficiency in its Pakistan operations and improve long-term sustainability. Global apparel giant Levi’s has brought its global ‘Water Less’ campaign to the country, which allows farmers to grow cotton with less water (particularly important given the level of water scarcity in Pakistan). Levi’s has taken mindful steps to promote the growth of sustainable production, while working with some of the largest denim manufacturers in Pakistan.

The United Nations Development Program report that Pakistan achieved on track status with Sustainable Development Goal 13 on Climate Change. Initiatives include, ‘Clean and Green Pakistan,’ ‘Ten Billion Tree Tsunami,’ ‘Protected Areas Initiative,’ and ‘Recharge Pakistan.’”

Vertical denim manufacturer Artistic Denim Mills has several sustainability initiatives, including a recycled post-consumer denim program in partnership with Recover Textile Systems, a Spanish company. Further, ADM also incorporates environmentally friendly technology such as ozone treatments and laser distressing into its finishing processes.
