GRAFITTI

IDEA: Upscale the size of the dog to that of a large horse. REASON: We predict that this would switch the roles of “walker” (the man) and “walkee” (the dog).

1

upscale the dog

IDEA: Substitute the cigarette for a lollipop. REASON: This completely changes the original directive, and due to a decreasing acceptance of smoking in public, we anticipate that this would also change the general public’s perception of and attitude towards the woman.

2

substitute the cigarette

IDEA: Remove the ladies’ from the context of waiting for a tram by altering their location. The new location could be anything from a park to a shopping centre. REASON: By removing them from the context of the tramstop, we remove their original directive.

3

change locations

IDEA: Insert a mirror on the shop window REASON: By inserting a mirror, the window shopper is forced into publicising the normally private act of looking at oneself.

4

insert a mirror

IDEA: Exchange the paper for a Playboy. REASON: Although still reading, the information he is seeking changes. The public’s perception of the man’s originally harmless act is also entirely changed. Reading explicit material in such a public forum is not a usual occurence nor a widely accepted one.

5

change reading content

IDEA: Change location to a footy match or a bar. REASON: Drinking on the street seems out of place but by changing location to somewhere that alcohol is formally allowed or accepted, it suddenly becomes a very normal act.

6

change locations

IDEA: Introduce spotlights and a stage. REASON: Eating is normally either a private act or performed in public anonimity. By highlighting and drawing attention to our diner, we turn his act of dining into a public event.

7

DRAw attention to the diner

IDEA: Increase size of the j-walker. REASON: J-walking is illegal and can be a dangerous act. By increasing the size of the j-walker so that he is larger than the oncoming tram, we remove the danger associated with j-walking, possibly making him more dangerous to the tram than the tram is to him.

8

INCREASE SIZE

IDEA: Create a formal area for people to tie up their dogs. REASON: By inserting a signed and sheltered tie up area, we formalise the informal act of tying up a dog. It also provides a safer and more comfortable experience for the dog.

9

create a formal tie up area

IDEA: Change graffiti content to a handmade quilt. REASON: By changing the content, we change the perception of who has performed the graffiti. Would graffiti objectors disapprove of a “pretty quilt made by nana, as much as they do graffiti performed by youths?
