Have You Stopped Havin Escape The Marriage Rut In 2013 A marriage rut if formed by habits, both good and bad. You and your spouse move from the honeymoon phase to the reality of keeping food on the table and a roof over your heads, and raising your children. These are performed by necessity and results in what’s missing in this line up of good habits. Maybe you noticed there was no mention of time set aside for you and your husband to have fun and solidify your marriage. Your marriage may feel a little less then exciting right now, or worse, one or both of you may have fallen into indifference. Lets look at some ideas that may help spring you free from the marital rut your marriage has fallen into and reignite those hearts:

Day to day details – are they derailing your marriage?

In reality, the practical details of life do require ongoing maintenance, but so does your marriage. No one wants a life lived on auto drive, which is what many married couples settle for. Excuses for not making time to nourish your marriage include: • • • • •

There is not enough time to get everything done around the house.

We don’t have money to go out for lavish dinners.

What spare time is left is spent with the family. (this is my downfall) Our schedules just don’t line up for us to get out.

At the end of the day I just can’t be bothered – I am too tired!

Step 1 - Prioritise your marriage A lot of couples complain that they have too many obligations, between home and work, to have fun together as a couple. Obligations can vary from one child requiring a little extra attention, travelling for work, or having to stay later in order to maintain responsibilities.

There is no denying that these issues are important. But your marriage is also important and it is too easy to put it on the backburner. Ensuring “fun time” management in all the areas of your life is the key.

Step 2 - Get your spouse on board Once you have decided to commit to having fun again with your spouse you need to get your spouse on board. This may prove to be an uncomfortable conversation, but you need to sit down with your spouse and together evaluate how “fun” managed time can be incorporated into your routines so that everything doesn’t become one never-ending list of responsibilities. Both of you need to be aware of these traps. When you are able to understand which areas in your life are being prioritised over your marriage, you can re-commit to spending time together as a couple.

Step 3 - Manage time better to help your marriage You have to carve out time to kick back and have fun together as a couple. There will always be bills to pay, grocery shopping and kids needing something. If you currently use a calendar to list important events, get it out right now and write in ink time for you and your spouse. This comes back to prioritising your marriage. You manage to make all the other dates on your calendar – hair appointments, beauty appointments, business meetings and children’s activities. Time with your spouse is just as important and needs to be treated as such.

Step 4 - Get creative to boost marriage fun Make the effort together to find what works for you and your spouse in your marriage. If your budget is lean and you can’t afford meals out, a picnic at the beach or foreshore, or shopping and preparing a meal together would be just as perfect. If you have an issue with your schedules not aligning perfectly, find whatever time you can together and do something. Meet for lunch during the working week or at a coffee shop. Take a walk on the beach, sit in the back yard with a glass of wine and have a chat – be creative! Ask yourselves: • What’s getting in the way of you and your spouse having fun?

Health Watch Christmas can cost more money jus as a result of what the kids ‘want’ at the shops. So I thought it would be fitting topic this month to make us strong while Christmas shopping this year! I thought we could give you a few tips that might help make Christmas shopping a little less stressful and maybe a little less expensive.

Parenthood is not always the rosy picture that we have depicted in the image accompanying this article. It is rare that a parent will have to battle with a child who demands that asparagus and cauliflower be included in the shopping trolley!

More common is the clashing of wills that is expected when a child demands some sugary, fatty item that they have seen advertised on T.V. That is when a child can ramp up the rhetoric into what experts have dubbed the “nag factor”. This is the tendency of children, in response to marketing, to relentlessly request advertised items. It is the persistence that makes it so hard to deal with for even the most resilient of parents.

Unfortunately yielding to the nagging is the worst thing that can be done in the long term, even if it brings short term respite. Successful nagging will lead to more nagging, poor eating and too many toys. The question is how to deal with the “nag factor”.

Research done on children between the ages of 3 – 5 between 2006 – 2007 found the following things contributed to the “nagging factor”: Familiarity with commercial TV characters • Packaging • Characters • Commercials

The Nag Factor The nagging itself falls into 3 categories: 1. Juvenile nagging 2. Nagging to test boundaries 3. Manipulative nagging Research has found that manipulative nagging increases with age. From the studies, 10 different strategies emerged: 1. Ignore 2. Distract 3. Stay calm 4. Consistency 5. Avoiding the commercial environment (easier said than done) 6. Negotiating and setting rules 7. Explaining choices 8. Limiting commercial exposure 9. Allowing alternative items 10. Yelling and giving in So sorry, the answer is that no, there is no easy way to deal with the “nag factor�, but strapping yourself in and weathering the storm. Be strong and there will be long term benefits.

The key is to say NO and STAY CALM. Why not reward yourself for being strong with a glass of wine at the end of the day?!

The Accent XL procedure The Accent XL procedure is a technique which rejuvenates aging skin in a non-invasive, radiofrequency based procedure by treating two separate layers of skin in a single treatment. The technique requires no downtime and is non-invasive, making it a popular alternative for both men and women who do not want to commit to more complicated and extensive surgical procedures.

Who is a candidate for Accent XL? The Accent XL procedure is an excellent option for men and women interested in firming up sagging, loose skin or reducing all degrees of cellulite buildup through a non-invasive procedure.

Which area of the body is Accent XL useful for? Accent XL’s unique dual-layer technique is suitable for use anywhere on the body where there is loose, wrinkled, and sagging skin or cellulite. Get sprayed by a professional. If it is all too scary for you get sprayed at Le Beau with St Tropez. There will be no worries! If you are going on holidays, get sprayed first then every night put on a top coat with your own take home bottle – stay tanned all through your holidays!

There is no point in turning up brown only to be white the next day because you spent the day inside in the bar!

1. Preparation: It may sound obvious but try to keep your skin in good condition. Patchy, dry skin will not respond well to fake tan.

2. Exfoliate: We can’t stress enough just how important it is to gently scrub the skin before you tan, to lift all those dead skin cells and reveal revitalised, ready-to-go skin underneath.

When you apply tan to dry, uneven skin, it will simply leave you patchtastic and desperate to cover up! If you are tanning in the spa light, daily exfoliation leading up to the tan will improve the look and longevity of the tan.

3. Latex gloves: Orange palms are the tell tale sign that you have cheated with your glow! This may seem weird to start with but you will get used to it. Use cotton wool balls to apply to the back of your hands at the end.

4. Back brush: unless you have a dedicated other half to ensure your back is bronzed, tanning your back solo seems like an impossible mission. St Tropez have literally a ‘back spatula’ to reach those nooks and crannies we would never get to otherwise.

Treatment focus: Spray Tans and home Fake Tans 5. Dab Vaseline on eyebrows and hair line: A great tan tip, but one you will only want to use behind closed doors. Dab a small amount of Vase line on your eyebrows and hairline. Tanning the face should be treated with caution and dabbing the jelly means that any slip of the hands when applying will prevent dodgy marks appearing in these areas.

6. Buff: When you want to ensure you have a professional looking tan at home, St Tropez have a buffing mitt to help you achieve this. It helps by ensuring a tan is perfectly applied and avoids any signs of patchiness – use this mitt to gently dab away any build up of tan, to spread it evenly and avoid varying shades. Perfect to use after an application.

7. Wear loose, dark clothing afterward: this is the number one rule of dressing after tanning. This is to avoid marking any wardrobe favourites. And be sure to avoid wearing a bra and socks so you do not get any marks.

8. Self tanning remover: If it all goes horribly wrong and you are left with distinctly orange palms, don’t panic, there is a solution. The experts at St Tropez have created the fake tan version of the eraser pen – a super easy way to remove embarrassing stains from your hands.

Simply rub in and use wipes to remove those tell-tale signs.

9. Polish and reapply: Now the tan has developed and you are happy with the job you have done. Moisturise to help your skin stay moist. But now you are starting to pale – it is time to top up your tan. Gentle exfoliation and off you go! (Yes, we know, being beautiful is time consuming...)
