Go Wild in a RHS

Garden! Tranquil spaces with gentle colour palettes to encourage quiet contemplation. Or an outside space fearlessly colourful and demanding everyone's attention. An oasis of calm or an area for people to come together, a re-wilding retreat working with nature or container gardening for balconies; whatever your garden style, there's a big buzz around this year's RHS Flower Shows.

With an eagerly anticipated return to its springtime dates, following an absence of two years, RHS Chelsea's comeback is to have its most naturalistic feel in recent years. Think blossoming hedgerows, lush woodland and wildflower meadows. Hawthorn will feature alongside other woodland trees and shrubs including hazel, crab apple, weeping willow and hornbeam. Expect to see swathes of green speckled with whites, creams and pinks throughout the show.

RHS / Georgi Mabee

Wild plants such as nettles, cow parsley, poppies and nectar-rich buttercups will add to the pastel colour palette and continue the wildlife-friendly, naturalistic theme. Other themes include sustainability, climate change, the mental, physical and social benefits of gardens, and a celebration of institutions such as the RNLI and the RAF.

RHS / Georgi Mabee

RHS Chelsea Flower Show is from 24 to 28 May and tickets are on sale now. Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival is championing inclusive gardening and will celebrate the healing power of trees in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace from 4 to 9 July. RHS / Georgi Mabee

With a relaxed festival atmosphere, this will be the perfect summer’s day out to discover new flowers and plants, gardening advice or to enjoy the exquisite location surrounded by nature’s splendour. A new area and a certain show must-see, the River

Go Wild in a RHS Garden!

Cottage Market Garden is an immersive walk-through garden that will focus on growing organic vegetables, fruit trees, botanicals and wildflowers for pollinators. Beekeeping, willow weaving and the pleasures of cooking and eating outdoors will also take a starring role. Founded by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, River Cottage’s commitment to the ethical and sustainable production of food aligns with the RHS’s PlanetFriendly Gardening campaign to encourage everyone to make small steps that will make a global impact.

RHS / Neil Hepworth

Additional show highlights include a special RHS Rose Tea Garden designed by Pollyanna Wilkinson to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, ten community allotments and the Floral Marquee, supported by St. James’s Place, which will be brimming with over 60 exhibitors.

RHS / Neil Hepworth

The benefits of gardening and the joy of being outside during the pandemic will underpin the celebratory theme for RHS Malvern Spring Festival, from 5 to 8 May. In addition to container garden and feature garden planting, there will be a Jubilee Garden featuring some of The Queen's personal favourite flowers and ones named in her honour. Whether you're after a hands-on workshop, some family fun or boutique shopping, the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park from 20 to 24 July will showcase flawless flower-power in the Floral Marquee and Plant Village along with stunning gardens from up and coming young designers. Tatton Park will be blooming with ideas and inspiration, including a designated small gardens area, that's sure to be popular.
