Santa, it seems, is a raver. How else can you explain the quite ridiculous bookings that have swamped Dubai recently - in the space of just a few weeks, Booka Shade, Goldie, Maceo Plex, Subb-An, Tom Middleton, Gilles Peterson, Tensnake, Lethal Bizzle, Marcus Intalex, Metro Area, Move D and Macy Gray will all have hit town, not forgetting huge commercial events like Creamfields and Chris Brown. It’s quite simply an excellent time to be a clubber in the city (and a rather nervous one to be a promoter, we assume). And the good times look set to continue, with Andy C pencilled in for January and The Stone Roses flying out at the end of February. Andy

Ipanema prEsents Gilles Peterson @ Nasimi
The problem with eclectic DJs like Gilles Peterson, is knowing which Gilles will turn up - after all, the man has a second house rammed to the rafters with vinyl. But as problems go, this is one of those good ones, as Gilles put decades of experience to good use at a busy-busy Nasimi, tearing through a 2 hour set that took in bass music (Bashmore’s ‘Au Seve’), nu-disco (Todd Terje’s ‘Inspector Norse’) while also dipping his toe into more traditional jazz, funk and disco territory mid-set. And the BBC radio DJ was as happy as we were, later Tweeting that was his best set in Dubai since the seminal days of iBO. High praise indeed.

Looking Back Gotye @ World Trade Centre Like most people, the crowd at Gotye’s gig knew only one of his songs — the one that’s been viewed over 300 million times on Youtube. But despite that, it was clear from the beginning that the Aussie performer was not one to underestimate. Delivering tracks from his eclectic back catalogue, including the ethereal ‘Eyes Wide Open’, and the haunting ‘Hearts A Mess,’ Gotye jumped back and forth from synth pads, keyboard and drums, and even a melodica at one point. He played ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ mid-way through, the crowd standing in for Kimbra, before quickly moving on to more haunting and emotive songs, synchronized with an impressive animation and graphics display. Lebanese folkies Mashrou’ Leila also played an energetic set as support, setting the perfect tone for a stellar night of live music.
Black Coffee @ 360
Since re-opening as a twolevel, two-roomed venue after Ramadan, 360 has been busier than ever. But the arrival of South African DJ Black Coffee sent the club into overdrive as queues snaked down the pier from 11pm. Musically, he played more of a tech-house set than he might be known for, but soulful joints he did drop were met with roars of approval from hundreds of South African clubbers.
Looking Back Booka Shade @ Trilogy
A bit of rain wasn’t the only thing to have caused havoc in the city this weekend as the Trilogy faithful will testify after the returning Booka Shade hit the club with more force than a hurricane called M.A.N.D.Y. Metrological musings aside, the German duo delivered a class act that had the whole place bouncing, even the residents of a bizarrely placed VIP table directly in front of the booth. Their tough, tech-laden sound was a nice step-up from the well-paced but moody warm-up set that resident Ejaz dropped. And come 3am, they’d dropped their classics (including ‘Body Language’) and even broken out into a bout of synchronized DJ booth dancing. After their 3rd National Day weekend set in a row, the Get Physical stars raised the barometer once again.
Nike We Run Dubai @ The Palm
The inaugural We Run Dubai Nike event didn’t go off without a few hitches – the start was delayed by 30 minutes due to gridlocked traffic on the palm, while scores of runners complained that their times weren’t recorded properly and that their thin cotton t-shirts weren’t worth the entrance fee. The after-race entertainment couldn’t be faulted, however, as German nu-disco DJ Tensnake played to 4000 sweaty runners, climaxing with his big 2010 hit ‘Coma Cat.’ It might not have been the smoothest run in history, but we’d like to see the We Run Dubai event back next year for sure…

Local News The Weekend warm up
The more dedicated fans amongst you might have noticed something interesting happen at 3.55pm a couple of Thursdays ago — our Weekend Warm Up show went live, with South Africa's Black Coffee throwing down a soulful-infused set. A 2-hour live show streamed live every Thursday from 4-6pm, the Weekend Warm Up will bring you the best international and local DJs, alongside interviews, the weekend gig guide and more. Head to fb.com/infusionmagazine to find the live stream, log in and start your weekend with Infusion.
Drum and bass takeover Just a few months ago, we were bemoaning the fact there weren't enough DnB nights around – now we're swamped with them (not that you'll find us complaining). First up is the gold-toothed star of DnB, Goldie, who plays at Trilogy on Thursday December 13. The Metalheadz founder is one of the genre's biggest stars, and hasn't played in Dubai for nearly a decade, so we're predicting a roadblock for this event. And the following night, Friday December 14, brand new night Something Big have a double-hitter as DnB stars Black Sun Empire are joined at the Music Room by dubstep duo Thelem. And on the same night, DJ Patife – the Brazilian DJ who inspired DJ Marky to take up DJing – plays at the Warehouse. And as if that wasn't enough for you, RAM Records head honcho Andy C makes his return for Globalfunk on January 10…
freshly pressed by sho cho Finish your weekend with commercial house and nu disco mixed by Stephane Karl. Fridays from 10.00pm to 3.00am.

Looking Forward World Top DJs returns
It might not have got off to the most auspicious of starts last year when bar staff outnumbered clubbers at the launch of the World Top DJs event, but the organisers have come back with some big hitters for this year’s event. Held at Rixos on Friday December 21, they’re promising to bring Deadmau5 down for a set, although somewhat bizarrely, he’s only scheduled to play for 10 minutes as part of the Guinness Book of World Records attempt at the longest continuous DJ mix. The Canadian DJ and producer will be joined by fellow headliners trance star Andy Moor and Milk & Sugar, while over 100 DJs are penciled in for the record attempt. facebook.com/WTDFestival
beach beats Nicky Minaj
Just to reinforce the notion that Dubai might be the best city in the world for clubbing right now, Hot Creations head honcho – and one of the most in-demand DJs in the world, Jamie Jones – returns to the UAE for a beach-side slot at Blue Marlin on Friday December 14. It's Blue Marlin's biggest booking to date, and should see the high-end Ghantoot beach club packed from start to finish. For more details and guestlist call 050 1422800, or email reservation@ bluemarlinibiza-uae.com.
We're not entirely sure when, or indeed how, Nicky Minaj rose to fame, but over the past 18 months, she's been at the forefront of the RnB/pop scene, and makes her Middle East debut on Friday December 28 in Dubai. She's certainly got plenty of accolades to her name in just a short time: she was the first female solo artist to have seven singles in the Billboard Hot 100 while her second album has become one of the biggest sellers of 2012. She's also created a larger-than-life persona for herself (think Salt'n'Pepa meets Lady Gaga), which should make for a spectacular show at Meydan. Tickets start at Dhs450, theatelierworld.com.
Looking Forward NYE countdown
The wise ones amongst you will have already planned your NYE, but just in case you haven’t, we’re here to bring you the best beats in town. There’s a tussle at the top as Snoop Dogg, Faithless and Gorillaz Soundsystem at Meydan battles with Sandance, featuring Ellie Goulding, Paul Van Dyk and Rita Ora. Back in the clubs, you’re spoilt for choice as Crazy P and Inland Knights play at 360, Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero does the honours at Armani Prive, Yves La Rock headlines at XL Beach Club and, finally, Hed Kandi takes over Barasti for a night of funky house. Check our next issue for the full run down...
promopush.com, the new and affordable - way to get your new music out to the people that matter. Buying music isn't always the easiest in Dubai, but after an age, Apple have announced that they'll be launching their iTunes service in the Middle East, opening up their huge back catalogue to music fans in the region. Ditching Secret Santa and pooling the money you would have spent at the bar. Win/win.
Men talking to you while you're having a slash. Odd, weird, uncomfortable, and just odd. Dubai expansion plans. Did no one learn a lesson from the previous property crash in Dubai? And the plans for the hospitals, schools, parks, infrastructure are where exactly… Pikey tw@ts trying to use your name and guestlist pass to get into clubs.
The sunset soundtrack Ibiza is the most hedonistic place in the world, and arguably the most famous destination on the Spanish party island is Café Del Mar, the relaxed beach bar known for soundtracking one of the most spectacular sunsets known to man. And the venue which almost singlehandedly created the chill-out genre is taking over Dubai’s latest beach club, the sumptuous Meydan Beach on JBR on Friday December 14 and Saturday December 15. Ahead of their sunset takeover, we take a look back at CDM’s history, and also profile their main headliner, ‘Stereo Love’ hit-maker Edward Maya…
The original sunset sessions The words Balearic and chill out are now part of the modern day musical lexicon, but rewind 30 years and a small Ibiza café was soundtracking the setting sun in their own inimitable style, effectively creating the chill out genre as day turned to night. Opened in 1980, Café Del Mar became one of the first sunset bars in the world, and was at the time, set on the sleepy San Antonio bay overlooking the Mediterranean, a far cry from the hectic sunset strip of today's Ibiza as it's now joined by Café Mambo, Savannah, Kanya and Mint to name a few. Musically, they blended funk, soul, jazz and blues in the early hours, before progressing to more electronic sounds as the sun started to set. World-renowned DJ Jose Padilla was a large part of their success, as he launched the Café Del Mar CD series in 1994, with the first CD featuring defining acts like Underworld and recent Dubai visitors Leftfield. And on Friday December 14 and Saturday December 15,
they’ll be taking three decades of musical experience to the stunning Meydan Beach on JBR. Friday's soundtrack is supplied by local favourite Safet, who'll be joined by live singer Anna, before DJ PR takes over for the sunset slot. He then gives away to the Café Del Mar Ibiza resident Deepjosh who'll be setting things up for the main headliner Edward Maya, with DJ Stu closing out proceedings until 3am. Saturday meanwhile sees DJ Stu open proceedings at midday, with DJ PR on sunset duties again, followed by Deepjosh and DJ Ilona to finish.
Need to know:
Edward Maya His real name is Eduard Marian Illie, and he’s a 26 year old Romanian producer and DJ. He helped write Romania’s Eurovision Song Contest entry in 2006. His global hit ‘Stereo Love’ was released in 2009, while the video for it has had nearly 200 million Youtube views.
His dream job when he was 5 was to be the President, until his Grandfather played him some live music and he became hooked on music. The ‘Desert Rain’ star has played in Dubai several times before, and each event has been a sell-out, so get down early to catch him in action. Café Del Mar, Meydan Beach, JBR, Friday December 14 & Saturday December 15, 12midday-3am. meydanbeachclub.com

Back to the
future!
It might have been quiet of late in old Dubai, but with the opening of the new Jumeirah Creek hotel has come new options, including the expansive Nomad venue. And running every Friday throughout December is new night 4Play which brings together 4 rooms of music (house, funk, hip hop and DnB) and over 50 local DJs. We caught up with the men behind it – Greg Stainer and Charl Chaka – to find out more… The older side of the city seems to have been neglected recently, how are you going to change that? Charl: By taking it on! No one is catering for a clubbing market on that side of town. Greg: For sure. We aim to bring the ‘new Dubai’ party vibe back to the old side.
Describe the venue to people who haven’t been... Greg: It’s a really cool place and part of a brand new Jumeirah Hotel. We have indoor and outdoor spaces, areas by the pool, the gardens and in the roof top! I want people to be able to spend the whole day and night there and come back the next week
and still find the place interesting, kind of like a clubbers labyrinth! What music will be across the 4 floors, and who’ll be playing? Charl: We will cater for everyone’s taste. From quality house, to funk and old school, hip hop and even some Drum n Bass flavours upstairs at Cu:Ba. We’ve got approximately 68 DJs playing for us over the 4 week period. Greg: This is one if the few venues in Dubai where we can have 4 different styles on the same night. We want to bring all the party people together once a week. Why should people support a night of local DJs when there are so many internationals in town at the moment? Charl: The local DJs can hold their own, this his been
proven time and time again, sometimes even out-playing the international DJs. If you’re local, you know the faces on the dancefloor and that makes a difference. Greg: Simple. Because we know how to rock the UAE crowd. It’s our home and our friends who fill the clubs every week. What else can we expect on the night? Greg: Good food, great venues and amazing music! Come early and enjoy a quality brunch. Then party your a** off until Saturday morning! Nomad, Jumeirah Creek Hotel, every Friday, Brunch 12-4pm, Dhs395, Nomad 4pm3am, free entry until 10pm, Dhs100 men and Dhs50 ladies after.

Music News... Andrew WK to be Middle East cultural ambassador?
MUSIC BITES If a ticket costs 250 quid. let’s imagine, and goes for 1,000 quid, I just want to point out that we don’t get that difference. Mick Jagger points out that the band aren’t profiting from the Rolling Stones ticket auction, which has seen tickets go on sale for their 50th anniversary dates for more than Dhs6,000.
It’s not April Fools Day, and the world hasn’t ended yet — but in a series of intriguing twists and turns, Andrew WK — he of the long, matted hair and ‘Party Hard’ anthem — was apparently named the cultural ambassador to the Middle East by the US Department of State. For all of a day. The US Embassy in Bahrain then invited him to the country in December, to ‘party and promote positive power,’ visiting schools, music venues and spreading a message of world peace. Yes, Andrew WK, the man behind such classics as ‘Party Til You Puke,’ ‘Big Party’ and ‘It’s Time To Party.’ Sadly, despite being announced on both his website and the official US sites, it was retracted within a day, with an official State Department spokesperson saying: ‘Andrew WK had been invited by the US Embassy in Bahrain to be part of a cultural speakers program, but upon further review, the program was canceled because it did not meet the standards of the State Department.’ We’d better sell our flight tickets to Bahrain then…
Look and Listen Calvin Harris to sue the BBC?
A furious Calvin Harris has taken to Twitter to express his anger following a recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, claiming he was misquoted during an interview, with the NME reporting that he was going to sue the BBC for libel. The interview was based around whether or not it’s acceptable for DJs to ‘just press play’ during live shows. This is the response from Harris that was aired on the Newsbeat show: “I think it’s not a problem. In the club you want to hear a produced piece of music, you want to hear the bass, you want to hear it as good as it can sound. I used to perform with a band putting all sorts of work into a live show and I can tell you that the reaction was worse than it is when I’m DJing.” However, Harris took to Twitter to complain, claiming that the show used his quote out of context. He said: “Find the audio where I say ‘It’s OK to pre-record a DJ set’. It doesn’t f*cking exist, and I don’t know ANY DJ that actually does that.”
MUSIC BITES I called my manager and said, ‘Yo, what the f*ck? I’m $9 million short, dude. We gotta talk. Nobody is making that kind of money Deadmau5 denies that he makes $11million a year as Forbes recently claimed.
Top of the pops
While the DJ Magazine Poll might get most of the attention, the Resident Advisor Top DJs poll has quickly become seen as the industry standard for house and techno DJs, and one featuring respectable DJs (rather than some random Russian DJ who’s built up an online spamming empire). And this year’s poll features house luminaries like John Digweed, Sasha and Richie Hawtin in the Top 20. But this year’s top spot has been taken by the larger-than-life v, who’s had a busy year criss-crossing the globe for gigs. Noticeably, we give credit to the Dubai promoters as nearly half the Top 20, including Dixon, Maceo Plex, Jamie Jones, Marco Carola, Art Department and Ame have all played or are scheduled to play soon. For the full list, head to residentadvisor.net.
Look and Listen EDM just stadium rock for dance music?
When Bill Brewster speaks about the current state of dance music, you tend to listen. He’s one of the foremost experts on DJing, and the author of the excellent book ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’, so has more credentials than most, and has turned his ire on EDM — the American brand of house and techno — notably its use of pre-recorded sets. In a column written for the Guardian, Brewster has stated: “Prerecording sets is a curious phenomenon, because it’s the live interaction between DJ and dancefloor where the real fun occurs. Without the ability to change the mood, change the tempo, change the style, you’re nothing more than a jukebox that needs a toilet break every so often.” The writer went on about DJ superstars such as Tiësto: “Two seasons ago, I spent a night checking out all the big clubs in Ibiza and was struck by how surprisingly dull a lot of it is these days. Tiësto’s performance at Privilege looked like 10,000 people waiting for the world’s largest bus to arrive.” Tough words, but we can’t help but agree to some extent…
Oasis to reform?
While Dubai might still be on a high after the Stone Roses reunion — and ensuing Dubai gig - were announced, it seems that Oasis fans might have to wait a little bit longer if they want to see the Gallagher brothers re-united on stage. Asked by the UK’s Channel 4 what it would take for the band to reform, he said: ‘What would it take? It would take Liam or myself to be very skint, and I know for a fact that ain’t gonna happen. So other than that, I can’t see it.’ The singer also spoke about how he will approach talking to his children about drugs, admitting that it would be rich for him to preach abstinence given his well-documented history with cigarettes and alcohol – and more. Gallagher said he was “dreading” his children’s teenage years as he’s in no position to lecture them, so would instead say, “Everything in moderation, lads. And just remember: you will never be as cool as your dad. Remember that.”

Album Reviews... Deftones - Koi No Yokan
Long one of the most inventive metal bands around, Californian 5-piece Deftones have grown with every album release, each one of their 7 albums evolving in style and substance. And following on from their 2010 release Diamond Eyes which was recorded with the band in limbo as guitarist Cheng recovered from a car crash induced coma, Koi No Yokan — a Japanese proverb meaning ‘Promise of love’ — is an altogether bigger, bolder and better album. Central to the album, both figuratively and literally, is ‘Entombed,’ a slo-mo melodic sledgehammer of a tune, which sounds like Metallica covering Beach House. Ace in other words. That’s not to say the album doesn’t fizz with energy — ‘Gauze’ and ‘Rosemary’ are all pounding drums and low-slung bass, making this their best album in recent time. Andy Buchan
Manic Street Preachers — Generation Terrorists (20th Anniversary Legacy Edition)
Two decades ago, the Manics released their debut LP Generation Terrorists, an ambitious, politically-driven album containing a mammoth 18 tracks crammed on to one CD. As you’d imagine, there were a few cases of “quantity over quality”, however, the album did contain their early masterpiece “Motorcycle Emptiness” — 368 seconds of pure brilliance. Fast-forward 20 years and few could argue that they surpassed all expectations to become one of the most successful and influential British bands of all time, and this reissue celebrates where it all began. It’s nowhere near as polished and well-produced as later albums such as This is My Truth… and Send Away the Tigers, and it’s not as friendly on the ears. But considering its place in musical history along with all the bonus content (including album demos and a DVD containing a fascinating documentary about the album with live performances), this is a worthy addition to any record collection. Dan Fahy
Look and Listen ALBUM BITES Tracey Thorn - Tinsel and Lights
Minced pies, check. Bottle of port, check. Board games, check. Christmas album that’s not as cheesy as the Stilton you’ve just devoured, but also reverential enough to impress your Granny? Thankfully, that’s where Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn steps in, with a festive album that ticks most boxes. A tender cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ is present and correct, while the title track is a melancholy, but uplifting waltz that will get your toes tapping. It’s not the best Christmas album in the world, but it’s honest and beautifully created, and should work across the family. Letherette - Featurette
Many moons ago I was introduced to the ridiculously good btsradio.com, a site with music (and art) that’s so cool it would freeze a penguins. One of the standout mixes was by the little known Letherette. 2 beats producers from Wolverhampton, England who fuse J Dilla style hip hop with vintage samples, along with a touch of Daft Punk and lots of magical dust. Now part of the muchloved Ninja Tune family, this EP is the sort of quirky deep house that is making the best dancefloors in the UK move. Gareth Davies.

Pioneer
The CDJ2000 might just have become the industry standard, but Pioneer have just released an updated version, the Nexus. Marko Smokingroove got to grips with the new piece of equipment… With Traktor and Serato offering DJs a seemingly endless array of options, it was only a matter of time before Pioneer caught up and took the emphasis away from laptops and put the power back into the DJs’ hands - and more specifically the decks. And the new generation of Pioneer CDJ 2000s is a complete technological overhaul of the standard CDJ. The Nexus can now be completely set up to your personal preference directly from Rekordbox before you get to your gig, so there’s less time fiddling with the CDJ to set your personal settings: so your pitch range, screen settings, brightness and search options can all be saved to your CDJ via one click on your USB. The new hi resolution screen is a complete upgrade from the 2000, and comes with a wealth of options and combinations in how you’d like your tracks displayed. The new on-screen WAV form
now gives you a whole new level of control meaning each track can be edited on the fly, cue points and loop settings can be tweaked on the go and thanks to the auto-loaded cue points, it means that you can get creative even quicker. All the features work brilliantly in conjunction with the optional quantize setting, which has been added as a separate button and perfectly snaps each track to beat. The quantize also works with the
hot cues, so your live sampling is always on time and in beat even when jumping from different cue points in a track allowing for perfect live sampling. It also works alongside the added slip mode that used to be featured on the CDJ 900. A new Rekordbox button has been added to the source buttons, so you can still use Rekordbox from your laptop or Rekordbox mobile via your iPhone through a Wifi connection or hardwire (yes, you can now play from your iPhone if needed). One of the most important features is the emergency loop: if your USB stick is accidentally pulled out, the Nexus automatically kicks into a 4 bar loop from the track that was playing. A new beat sync button has also been added which is generally used by DJs running four deck looping to give them a more hands-free approach to focusing on their effects (so no excuses for lazy DJs on two decks). This is an outstanding machine that has changed the way you can approach live mixing and sampling, opening up a whole new realm of creativity. And most importantly, put the emphasis back on the DJ and the DJ booth, making a more interactive performance. Pioneer Nexus 2000, Dhs8,250

Shine
They’re the resident band at one of the best live music venues in the city, which automatically makes The Music Room residents Shine one of our city’s best talents…
How would you describe your sound? Fun and colourful. Being a musician in Dubai is much like... Living the dream. Dubai is such an awesome melting pot of so many different personalities and cultures; you get to meet the people that you wouldn’t normally meet in your own country. Our first musical influences were... Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Holst The Planet Suite, R Kelly, Roxette, Incognito, Brand New Heavies, Def Leppard. The best way to get noticed in Dubai is.... By making an impression, and by being the best. It’s always great to get out and meet people and network. Facebook is also an awesome tool. What’s the best gig you’ve played? There’s soooo many, but one that stands out is a gig we did at Irish Village for the Peace for One Day Concert, which strangely enough went for 3 days. We got to play on a massive stage with brilliant sound. And the worst? There’s no such thing as a bad gig, even in the worst scenario we can take away something good. Band motto? Stay positive. The best lyrics of all time are... From the song F.E.A.R by Ian Brown. Every line in the song spells the word fear. Talent shows are... We’ve got mixed feelings about this, some of the band don’t want to comment, and some agree with them being a platform for performers to showcase themselves in an interesting and funny way. Ohers think they are a marketing tool to create ratings for TV and have nothing to do with the performers at all. If we could change one thing about Dubai’s music scene... To make jam nights about actually jamming, and allowing the music to be improvised and creative. The best local band is... Bull Funk Zoo, Danny Shirran and Absolace. themusicroomdubai.com

Next up in our stylish DJ round-up is 360’s resident, Tristan Bain, one of the most talented DJs in town (and one of the nicest). He talks us through what works for him, and what he’s hiding with the hats... … This is on the more casual end of the spectrum of the outfits I like to wear. I’ve never been into formal wear but do have my version of what I consider to be a smart kind of outfit. I think most people would like to think that they have an individual sense of style and it’s always been something that I’ve enjoyed playing with. I have been wearing hats for years, to the point where people frequently comment when I go out without one! I have ended up with quite a few and am always on the look out for new additions. Very often my choice of outfit will be affected by my choice of headwear. I also feel quite naked if I go out without my watch and rings! I spent 14 winters seasons in ski resorts so the whole skate/surf thing has been an influence. Apart from that I have my own concept of what I think is stylish and I like to spend part of my time travelling around, checking out small designer shops for individual and different bits of clothing. I’m not a massive follower of any brand in particular really, although with the more expensive and exclusive labels you do tend to get superior quality material and cut. I’m happy as long as an item of clothing accentuates my handsome elbows and earlobes!

Weird News...
Men troubles
It’s the long-running show that’s fueled by off-screen drama, namely in the form of ex star Charlie Sheen, and current incumbent Ashton Kutcher. But the childhood star of 2 and a Half Men, Angus Jones, has now turned on his employers in a recent video posted by the US Christian website Forerunner Chronicles. Angus, who earns over Dhs1million per episode says: “If you watch Two And A Half Men, please stop watching Two And A Half Men.” In an apparent reference to Satan, Jones said in the video: “A lot of people don’t like to think about how deceptive the enemy is. He’s been doing this for a lot longer than any of us have been around. There’s no playing around when it comes to eternity.” Our sentiments exactly.
My way or the highway… We’ve all been there - the government want to build a four lane highway through the middle of your apartment block (or in Dubai, it would be a 16 lane motorway). But two families in the Zheijiang province couldn’t be persuaded to relocate, and so have stayed in the building, forcing the highway around them. Stubborn resident Zhang Ling, 46, explained: “They didn’t offer us enough compensation to leave so we’re staying. “It could be a good opportunity for us. We could open up a drive through shop on the ground floor.”
Looking Closer Leaf it out
Warning: this is the sort of story that could have you on the first plane back to colder climes. Three friends in America have created what they say is the world’s biggest pile of leaves, and taken turns jumping into it. They collected 1462 bin bags of leaves in their home town of Logan, Utah, creating a 17ft high and 60ft wide pile.
Poker face
Now it’s infront of our faces, as it were, it seems like an obvious idea, but an American Dr has introduced Pokertox, a program of Botox and facial fillers to help poker players hide their emotions. He first consults with poker players on their “tells” — the unconscious signals they give off, on whether they have a good or bad hand. “Some people might get a card they like or don’t like and raise their eyebrows,” Dr Berdy told The Huffington Post. “If that’s the common reaction, we can put Botox in certain areas to minimize them. We can also put Botox in areas to make it look like the player has a ‘tell’ they really don’t have.”

Civil libertarians stripped naked at City Hall in San Francisco this week after officials approved legislation crimimalising anyone older than 5 who ‘exposes his or her genitals, perineum or anal region on any public street, sidewalk, street median, parklet or plaza.’ Speaking before the bill was passed, San Francisco councilor Scott Wiener said it is intended to discourage a group of radically flamboyant nudists based around the city’s infamous Castro District. “I don’t think having some guys taking their clothes off and hanging out seven days a week at Castro and Market Street is really what San Francisco is about,” he told the LA Times.

New Saudi Smartphone app tracks movement of wives RIYADH: Husbands across Saudi Arabia sick of worrying about the whereabouts of their wives will soon be able to breathe a sigh of relief thanks to a new Smartphone application developed especially for the Kingdom. The FindFatimApp, which launches next week, was revealed just days after international praise was being heaped on a new service that alerts husbands via SMS whenever their female dependants cross Saudi borders. But developers at Riyadh-based Trouble N’ Strife Inc believe the new technology takes things a step further and are calling it the “ultimate in spousal tracking solutions”. Once signed up to the service, which comes with a monthly fee, husbands can easily load up to four wives via the app’s intuitive menu system. From there, with the simple touch of a button, the app uses GPS tracking to pinpoint the location of each wife to within five metres and can map out their movements over the previous 24 hours. “Only with FindFatimApp can you monitor the movements of up to four wives on screen simultaneously,” said lead developer Abdulrahmen Noodles. “And with our unique ‘Marital Marker’ facility, you can programme your app’s alarm to go off when one should venture beyond a certain point.” The Pan-Arabia Enquirer is the Middle East’s premier source of satirical news. Indian man unsure what the Movember fuss is all about DUBAI: An Indian expat working in Dubai has expressed his confusion regarding Movember. “I just don’t get all the fuss,” Janesh Howitzer, 32, told reporters. “You know, all these people taking photos of their new facial hair and posting them online and falling about in hysterics, it’s weird.” Howitzer claims to have had his own luxuriant moustache for almost 20 years. “And not once in that time have I ever thought to put a picture of it online with a caption along the lines of ‘OMG, Look at me! LOLZ’,” he added. “And, to be honest, it’s far more impressive any of the feeble soup strainers I’ve seen so far.” The Pan-Arabia Enquirer is the Middle East’s premier source of satirical news. I’ve had a few run ins with a few I remember one fat kid plonking tightish chimneys, and I’ve had himself down on me one year, fat Reindeer lash sometimes when f*cker nearly gave me a hernia! Rudolph and the rest pull off a little sharply. It’s not big and clever but… They’re the elves I have to work all day/night with at the ‘Grotto.’ Not It’ll be on a Christmas request list being funny, but small people are just somewhere in the world. a bit different aren’t they.
My best claim to fame is… I once delivered all the presents to everyone in the world with an hour Doing the twins from Sweet Valley to spare (that was the year Red High? Bull made it to the North Pole, so Rudolph had an extra set of wings, ho ho ho!) Describe your best present in 5 words…
The smile on everyone’s face. A smile!
Blonde twins in a jacuzzi.
Your answer to everything is… Is the pub open yet?
Tell us your best one-liner... Why does Santa always chuckle, “Ho, ho, ho!”? Because I know where all the naughty girls live..
Where does Santa stay when he’s on holidays? At a Ho-ho-tel!
The verdict: There could be only one winner, and it’s obviously Bad Santa, imagine how much fun he would be on a night out!

Looking Closer
The Big Question
Daron: Have one last dance with the dancing queen.
Sany: I’d want to be in Las Vegas off my head.
Lindi: Get the butt augmentation I’d be saving up for, so I’d be a sexy corpse.
Selina: Get drunk and do all the things I have always wanted to do when sober.
If the Mayan prediction is true and the world ends on December 21, what’s the last thing you’d do?
?
Marc: I’d love one last love marathon.
Stella: I’d be on an isolated island with my best buddies, drinking, dancing and being happy about the world ending in a positive way.
Rawrah: Snow and Red Riding Hood…
Vigilia: I’d want to be with Enrique Iglesias… Refreshed by FIJI water
ANGRY MONKEY Only 2 more sleeps to Christmas (well, for insomniacs anyway). But you know what gets the Monkey’s goat (his name is Boris, since you asked)? The under commercialization of Christmas in this country. Head back to the UK and it’s all tinsel and minced pies in October, but we’re now into December and I’ve seen barely a hint of mistletoe (but plenty of camel toe on a few nights out). If it wasn’t for the sterling work done by the malls and hotels — who are simply re-packaging their normal Friday brunch, but with added crackers for the big day — you’d be forgiven for thinking we’d zipped right through Christmas and were in the middle of January. Thankfully, the office Christmas parties are just round the corner, and nothing says ‘festive season’ like puking in the office bin, shortly after you’ve been knocked back by the boss’s wife, and just before you amble into Burger King for a Turkey twirler (cos it’s Christmas, right). Messy Christmas people...
