With Mr Buchan’s batteries still low, I’m firmly placed in the cockpit for Infusion episode 197 .. I hope you don’t mind that I’m still hanging around! With temperatures frayed and what little hair I have left now snow-white... We present another spanking issue of the magazine We do hope you enjoy my second attempt!! The past few weeks have been GREAT fun..! Thanks to all who helped me battle my Infusion editorial escapades. It’s the Thursday before ‘Comicon’ so I’m just nipping off to buff my light-sabre and wax my Wookie especially for the occasion … I look forward to seeing some of you ‘geeks-n-freaks’ on planet DIMC this weekend!!! May The Force Be With You!! Jedi Master Marty

Say What Dancefloor dictionary ‘Beer Goggles’ ‘Beer Blinders’ or ‘Cider Visor’: One’s perception when under the influence of alcohol. Often causes unattractive people to look hot, long distances to look jumpable, makes your karaoke sound like Pavarotti and break dancing moves to look easy. In numbers The golden ratio of approximately 1.618 between two quantities such as lengths, often appears in nature (tree branching, uncurling ferns, pine cone arrangements etc) and has been used throughout history to create aesthetically pleasing designs and art works such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

Short and tweet Richard Branson’s April Fools Tweet I am thrilled to announce that Virgin has created another worldfirst with the introduction of the technology required to produce the world’s first glass-bottomed plane. This technological innovation coincides with the start of Virgin Atlantic Airways first ever domestic service to Scotland. In 1984 we started the wonderful airline that is Virgin Atlantic. I am incredibly proud of yet another aviation breakthrough, which has been years in the making. I can’t wait to experience the first flight for myself with my family and other natural born explorers! What we did

TIESTO @ DUBAI WORLD TRADE CENTER So the Techno / Trance / EDM ‘Grande Fromage’ Tiesto was in town for another spectacular, spectacle at the Dubai World Trade Centre Arena on Thursday, March 28th! A few of the ‘Infusionistaz’ hopped on the Metro and took a glide along to the event! The warm-up jocks weren’t bad, did what they had to do, to kick-start the evenings engine! Lets be honest .. We know Tiesto is a great showman and with the Indian super-festival-brand ‘Sunburn’ hosting the party, we were expecting a magical AV production and weren’t disappointed! Tiesto’s epic opening had the jam-packed arena shaking on its foundations as he unleashed a foot-to-the-floor banging mash of Trance, EDM and Techno! A few of his all time favourites were dropped into the blend including, Suburban Train, but the biggest crowd pleasing moment was when he side-chained his new collaboration with Hardwell .. ZERO 76 … A HUGE boom in the room! We thought the ceiling was going to fall in on us! All-in-all .. We had a smashing night the Dubai World Trade Centre Arena. Tiesto did the business and the production was just super! Thanks to the ‘Sunburn’ crew, we look forward to your next adventure!

House of Afrika ft. Culoe De Song at The Dek on 8 Culoe! What a thoroughly nice bloke. He took the time to hang for two days with the infusion crew before divulging just how excellent he is on the decks. Deep, Housey cuts thrilled the ‘late-arriving’ audience, with a smashing remix of the illustrious ‘Bob Marley’ being, most memorable track of the night! The dance-floor was stacked, packed and racked before the witching hour, and master ‘De Song’ just reveled in the devoted wax watchers! Looking very much forward to his return soon!

Infusion - Full Moon Party ft. Damian D’Costa at 360º It was a glorious return to tip-top form for the Full Moon sessions. 360 is a wicked joint to host any party so when the Infusion crew kicked down the doors, it was a treat to witness such an enthusiastic dancing riot on the deck! Damian D’Costa served up beat heavy treats with the tune of the night being Tensnake, Coma Cat .. A rip-roaring soiree had by all which sets us up nicely for the forthcoming anniversary of the Full Moon Party gatherings .. Can you believe we are going to be 4 years old!?

He is one of France’s best known and loved international acts. Just a couple of years ago, Solveig was just another ‘très chic’ Parisian club jock. But after producing tracks for Madonna’s ‘club-bounceback’ MDNA and then scoring a massive result with the platinum electro-rock jam ‘Hello’ featuring Canadian neo-new-wavers ‘Dragonette’ – Martin has become more than just a DJ. ‘Hello” peaked at ‘number one’ in at least five countries around the world. Solveig has gone from dropping beats at small venues to playing for thousands at prestigious

festivals, he is ranked in the top 20 on the DJ Mag’s list of the world’s top spinners and served as the official DJ at the MTV Movie Awards. “The way I’ve been accepted is so crazy, it’s overwhelming,” he enthuses. “I’ve been DJing around the world for fifteen years, and it’s never happened like this. Things have changed pretty drastically.” Solveig kept his career wheels flaming with the release of a U.S. edition of his breakthrough album, SMASH, which whisks together everything from grimy dubstep to kinky French disco! ‘SMASH’ touched down toward the end of 2011 featuring dope remixes from dance music maestros like, A-Trak and Madeon alongside collaborations with Dev and Bloc Party’s, Kele Okereke. “I have more of a pop influence than any other DJ,” he admits. “I love listening to Britney Spears” other professional DJs wouldn’t admit to doing that I’m sure! “My music has always sat in the middle of electronic club and pop. You can feel the shock of different influences even in one song. I love crossing genres.” “I had to have different singers,” he says. “Martina from Dragonette is the album’s main character, but

Dev is really funny and has her own style – mainstream pop, but very hype and L.A. Kele, meanwhile, is an amazing singer from a huge rock band, and the only male voice on the album other than mine. I play the track we made together [‘Ready 2 Go’] in every set.” Solveig supported Madonna on her world tour, which must have been an extremely interesting adventure! And if you’ve not yet seen it … Check the hilarious ‘Zoolander-meets-Wes Anderson’ music videos for SMASH, which has become a YouTube sensation thanks to Solveig’s headbandpumpy-chug flair as the videos’ tennis-obsessed nutter! “Some DJs have costumes, so the sweatband is my costume,” he states. “I get called ‘the other Michael Cera’ a lot on Twitter.” Collaborating and experimenting with brand new vocal and producer talents, then releasing his work immediately after it is produced! Martin loves to see how his music is organically, augmented by the underground scene. PUXA! SOM SISTEMA Buraka Som Sistema started rattling their musical toys in the mid 2000’s! They’ve rocked parties and plundered eardrums with a ‘sui generous’ and boisterous boom, alien to most mainstream audio fans. We were lucky enough to have a quick convo’ with Rui Pité aka Dj Riot from Buraka Som Sistema. Tell our readers a little about your musical heritage. We are four musicians/producers with very different influences. From Rock to Classical, from Techno to Zouk, everyone in Buraka listens to all kinds of music, as long as it's good. And in part, it's due to the fact that all of us always loved music and always played in bands way before Buraka. Riot and Branko played in Rock bands since high school, Conductor has been an Hip Hop Producer/MC since forever and Kalaf always experimented with the spoken word and more "jazzy" stuff. How are you received in your own country of Portugal? We are very well received in our country. People here were more used to some of the rhythmic patterns and sounds that we

use because of the inter-cultural exchange between Africa and Portugal. Most memorable gig to date? Everyone has their favorite gig but we think ‘Coachella’ 200’ was a very emotional one for us all. How did you choose your collectives name ‘BURAKA SOM SISTEMA?’ Buraka is a borough in the city of Amadora, which is the biggest suburban city next to Lisbon. It's where most of the immigrants from the ex-Portuguese colonies live and where most of the Buraka members grew up. Who are you musical inspirations? We are mostly influenced by new styles of music and new ‘micro- scenes’

like tuki kuduro, juke and zouk than by actual bands. We are inspired by Freshness! Describe your sound in 5 words. Bass Heavy Melodical Afro Punk! If you could musically collaborate with anyone, who would it be? It would be really cool to work with the producer Rick Rubin. How much are you looking forward to playing in Dubai? We are always excited to play in a country that we haven't performed before. Dubai is a special one because we all think that the country is beautiful, original and we're curious to see

how the audience is going to react to Buraka's music. What tech and software do you use in the studio? We are three producers who work with different software but usually finish our song in Cubase 7. What other artists are you currently enjoying? Artist like Dub Pizix, Ezekiel 2090, Rhianna, ASAP Rocky, Redlight and many many more... THURSDAY 25TH APRI, 9pm 3am, WHITE X BEACH CLUB, RIXOS HOTEL (Palm) Featuring: Buraka Som Sistema DJs, Nelson Afroboogie, MikowniteI

Music News... GEMA Attacks German Digital DJs

Notoriously bullying German collection agency GEMA have announced details of their new Digital DJ license, which will force DJs to pay hundreds of euros if they turn up with over 1,000 tracks on a USB stick or laptop. Leading German magazine ‘de-bug’ published an ‘Open Letter To All DJs Playing In Germany’ in response to GEMA’s latest anti-club culture attack, outlining the mechanics of the money grabbing scheme. “If you play a track that is a copied version of something you bought legally (or got for free as a promo), for example on a CD you burnt or on a USB stick, you might have to pay GEMA a license for copying. Even if you play tracks from an external hard drive this license applies,” de-bug noted. “For tracks to require a license, it is not necessary that you play them while you are doing your best DJ set ever in Germany, but to carry them with you with the intend of playing them while in a club is enough. You are not allowed to tell GEMA what tracks you actually play, so there will be no chance that any of the money you pay will ever end up in the hands of the artists you support. GEMA’s announcement provoked thousands of electronic music supporters sign a petition against the scheme, which outlined in detail the dire consequences the new license could provoke. “Calculation example: A DJ who has around 10,000 songs in their music database will be forced to pay DJ pay € 1,300 (plus tax and any excess length surcharge). And if the DJ’s laptop is ever broken or his switches his database to a different device, that amount will be due again.” “Because the licensed songs are charged only by quantity and not by titles, the GEMA will not distribute these funds to the artists that are actually played by DJs but will instead throw the money in their general distribution pot. Thus, GEMA’s large chart and Radio Artists will benefit while the artists whose music was actually played by the DJs won’t see any of the money.”

Ritzy Ravers Threaten London’s Underground Club Scene

UK’s music and nightlife magazine ‘Mixmag’ asked ‘is there a crisis in London clubbing’ in a feature noting problems including rip-off venue owners, unsympathetic local authorities, broke clubbers and increasingly violent thugs taking over the city’s ‘underground house’ scene. “Constant complaints on forums about ‘bad-man attitude’ reports of persistent fights at well-known house clubs, endemic phone theft and even sets being brought to an abrupt end due to fighting between gangs can’t be ignored,” said Mixmag’s Marcus Barnes. “Going out raving all night to underground music is not a niche activity any more,” he continued, “The big chain ‘Ritzy’ venues, with their cheesy music, air of violence and ‘no trainers’ door policy, are a thing of the past, and the crowds that once filled them have.

discovered Ibiza, house and techno and the underground The issue was tragically highlighted in April 2012 when Philipp Sheriff, 37, was murdered at a VIP promo party for Jessie J at Pulse nightclub in London, by fellow reveler Ashley Charles, 26. Charles cut his victim’s throat with a bottle ‘in a moment of madness’ after the two clashed at the club’s bar. “Is he OK? I wish I had not done that. It was a stupid mistake.” Charles told security staff after Mr Sheriff bled to death in front of him on the packed dance floor. “Yeah, I know I bottled him. He kept pushing past me through the bar area,” he later told police. What a disgrace!

MUSIC BITES New Order have confirmed they will be curating a show at the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire, UK on Sunday July 7th, performing in the shadow of Jodrell Bank’s iconic giant telescope, which served as the key device for tracking Soviet inter-continental ballistic missiles during the Cold war.

By dragging out and dusting off some of those ‘legendary’ House Music cuts, this could be perceived as a Defected Records ‘money making’ exercise! But it’s actually pretty good! Although the tracks have been kicking around for many years and I’m proud to say I have them all in their original vinyl ‘state’ .. The quality of music on this compilation is rather timeless and just highlights how shockingly bad most of todays pop dance and R&B chart clutter truly is. Several musical bods regard the original 1984 release of this tune as the first House Music track ever sliced onto vinyl. This historic release has been given a new injection of life by Amsterdam’s Rush Hour. The original, made with fellow pioneer Vince Lawrence, samples the bass-line from ‘Space Invaders’ by Player One. Heaped with ‘saucy 808 percussion’ and a minimal rhythm flourish, this one is certainly in my record bag or CD wallet, possibly on my laptop, could be on a USB drive. Who knows!

I don’t have much to say about this disappointing audio offering. I guess it’s OK, a few tracks mixed together that hit the spot but not anything groundbreaking. I would expect a lot more from ‘old timer’ Sasha. Pretty forgetful, one that will go into my ‘just another boring DJ mix’ pile.

This EP of yummy ‘Jazztastic’ finger trips is on the top of my pile this week. Impressive production, with gently filtered keys, kinky bass-lines, underpinned by shuffling percussion snaps are the raw ingredients for this slinky little slab. Kudos Mr. Ellis. I’m digging your groove!

One thing you might not know about me is... that contrary to the ‘Blonde’ stigma, I am actually a whiz at mathematics and graduated top in my class for algebra and calculus. My worst ever job was... being a waitress in Cyprus in 47 degree heat and 100 % humidity! The amount of precipitation I dealt with got me prepared for all the hot and sweaty nights on the dance floor and behind the DJ booth. My favorite ever track is... I Feel You by Schiller. The energy is insane, the sound is deep and the overall mood is intense. This track always gives me goose-bumps and the reaction I get from the crowd is really emotional. DJing is much like... an addiction. Once you do it for the first time, you don’t ever want to stop. Mixing, playing music and seeing the crowd’s reaction puts me on a high that is indescribable. Dubai’s clubbing scene is... very good and appeals to a wide range of tastes. There are plenty of venues, good local DJs and international artists. I love to have more beach bars that open until morning, so we can dance until sunrise. I’m really proud of... Kristina, my sister. She’s managed to have three kids in five years, a full time job and the most demanding husband! She still smiles succeeds in finding time to criticize my music. My biggest DJ achievement to date is.... The Street Parade in Zurich 2012 where I DJ-ed in front of 900,000 people. If you could DJ in any decade which would it be... Most of the greatest artists lived during that decade.

The 60s.

I’m not a politician but... I would love to have lunch with Putin. I admire his spirit and intellect. Catch Mizz Maras doing her thing for the dance floor at Café Del Mar, JBR Walk as the resident DJ hostess with the most’ess!

Weird News... Please do, do bring back the dodo!

A rare four-inch fragment of a dodo bone will go on sale in Britain this April, around 300 years after the flightless bird was hunted to extinction. Auctioneers Christie’s said it was hoping to raise as much as AED 85,000 for the piece of a bird’s femur. The last sale of dodo remains the auction house could find took place in London in 1934 – and it was expecting considerable interest from a highly specialized band of collectors and enthusiasts. We’ve all seen Jurassic Park .. Maybe they’ll bring back a flock of dodos.

WEIRD BITES You Must Be Yolking! Spending 165,000AED on a single egg sounds like a cracked idea. The fossilized egg measures 12 inches by 8 inches belongs to the extinct Elephant Bird that once lived on Madagascar!

Customers Chilled Toilet are being Tissue offered the chance to sample the ‘hottest pizza in the world’ at a restaurant near Brighton in the UK. Those who think they are tough enough can order from Pauls Pizza where it measures in at an incredible hole stinging, 3.2 million on the Scoville scale. And if they’re not able to complete it, like 1,300 people that have tried before, they get a free ice cream. The pizza consists of mozzarella, a herb sauce, a normal tomato base and of course, the flaming ghost pepper, which is one of the fieriest in the world. One lucky taster of the pizza was so overwhelmed with the heat he was unable to take a second bite. ‘The pain started before I had even bitten into it. As soon as it touched my lips they were on fire. There was no pleasure at all, just pain. It was unbearable’.

We thought it was about time to ‘pull in’ Mr Chris Rayner to the Infusion habitat for a ‘pow-wow’ about his clothing and fashionista’ styleee! I’d say my style is pretty simple. I like the classic jeans and t shirt look. I mainly go for comfort but I’m always on the look out for the unique. I love the T-shirts that Super Superficial create, always fresh and different! You can pick them up from their little shop in Covent Garden London but thankfully they are now available online. I’m probably best known for the fact I still wear skinny jeans. Can’t beat em! I think I have about six pairs in varying shades of blue and there’s no short of grief from my friends. When spinning at my residency at At.mosphere in the Burj Khalifa I have to go for something a little smarter and always wear a shirt. Supreme Being are up there as well as Religion in terms of brands. I love the military style cuts to their shirts and the street look. To finish off my look I always have a fresh pair of white trainers, probably a hangover from my upbringing in South London. I love hi-tops or as I like to call them moon-boots but its a bit to hot for them out here so my recent footwear has reverted back to the standard cut. Catch ‘flyboy’ Chris every Thursday and Saturday from 8pm spinning chill-out through to deep house at the highest bar in the world, At.mosphere in the Burj Khalifa. He also has an audio remix coming out soon on Roman Puskins Moscow Dancefloor Records. A track called ‘Let It Go’ feating the vocals of Akil Wingate. Good luck with that Mr Rayner, we’ll be keeping our ears open mate!

THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE DUBAI: A city was brought to a standstill this afternoon when a man delivered an item that had actually been ordered, in perfect condition, to the home of someone who had actually ordered it. The shocked buyer who did not wish to be named said “Obviously I’m pleased, I’ve always wanted a faux Ottoman living room chest with authentic drapes, built-in massage facility and chiller, but for it to actually arrive at my home, on the day, and around the time I was told it would, is ridiculous”! Delivery drivers in the Emirate have reacted angrily to the news. Union spokesman, Mindeepa Johnson, railed: “The thoughtless acts of this individual could have set a precedent that will reverberate for our members for years to come. The fact that a delivery driver should know the location of a building in the city is clearly bad enough, but to actually arrive there, at an agreed time, with the correct items is a step too far.” Johnson said that his initial thought was to ballot the union members for strike action. “But the chances of any of them getting to our offices at a pre-arranged time are non-existant. Personally I don’t know where our offices are. I think they might be near the Burjaman, wherever that is, and there’s no way I’m taking a taxi – they don’t have a clue.” The driver at the centre of the storm, whom has since gone into hiding, is believed to be new and most likely comes from Germany or one of those ‘oh look at us, we’re so efficient and everything works’ sort of places. The Pan-Arabia Enquirer is the Middle East’s premier source of satirical news. This means that it’s entirely made up and not intended, in any way whatsoever, to be taken as factual.

We stood staring at the barren white walls of Infusion HQ, pondering what to do with such a vast canvas. We acquired some beautiful, black and purple, crushed velvet baroque wallpaper from ‘Ace Hardware’ After several days of ‘licking and sticking’ it didn’t appear to fit with the overall aesthetics of chateau Infusion... Plus Charl shouted at us… He wasn’t quite feeling his new, glamorous, gothic environment! After a little soul searching, lots of avoiding eye contact with Charl and several phone calls later... We stumbled upon this couple of fly cats… Sya One and Steffi Bow! We provided the canvas, they supplied their ‘RED HOT’ skills! Both guys are aerosol artists from London and have resided in Dubai for the past five years. Sya One and Steffi Bow met whilst out painting in a disused car park tucked behind Dubai Festival City. The spot is a well known graffiti wall in Dubai for people to freely paint. They joined forces and have spent the last two years creating several collaborative, aerosol masterpieces! ‘Sya One’ has been an active graffiti artist for over 20 years, starting in his early teenage years developing

skills on the London streets. His graffiti writing is well known for its old-school, easily readable, large, lazy, brightly coloured letters. Steffi Bow, a stencil aerosol artist, gained her inspiration from her late Scottish Grandmother who always wore bows. Coincidentally Steffi was born in Bow, East London. Steffi used her past to create a persona that represents her whole being and as a tribute to her late Grandmother. Starting out by painting simple bow tags has now developed into creating far more complicated life sized stencils.

Steffi and Sya have had several major commission projects throughout the Middle East, which include painting the largest aerosol art display in the UAE at the Aloft Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Painting at Katara Cultural Village in Doha, creating a live art show at DIFC Art Night, painting at The Emaar Pavilion Downtown for it’s opening and featuring for several respected global brands including, Adidas Originals, Belvedere, Bioderma, Bloomingdales, Coca-Cola, Dubizzle.com, G-Shock Casio watches and Tiger Beer… Additionally, at the end of 2011 Steffi exhibited at the Singapore Affordable Art Fair, exhibited at Espoir Contemporain “Regard de Femme” exhibition at Alliance Française, Dubai. Sya One and Steffi Bow are now ‘Brand Ambassadors’ for the wonderful ‘Adidas Originals’ ‘Tiger Co-lab partners’ and ‘Luminaries’ for Societe Perrier. These brand partnerships provide a superb platform for showcasing their creative talent to a wider global audience. Working recently with Adidas Originals, they have together, devised

a volunteer mentoring program with art students from Deira International School, Dubai. This year Steffi has been involved with holding stencil, spray painting and street art leadership workshops in conjunction with Tashkeel Gallery, Dubai. Sya & Bow’s artistic love affair is at the core of their perfect partnership. Aerosol artwork is a ‘lifestyle’ for them both. Their very existence is wrapped in a daily ritual of fabricating ways to express feelings through creative, colourful and humorous possibilities. It is a somewhat compulsive and driven by a passion to promote oneself in a way that they would wish or dream to be perceived. They are a talented, gorgeous couple whom married in 2012. Now bonded together as ‘soulmates’ their voyage thus far has truly been an artistically, romantic Dubai fairytale! To many they are known as “The Graffiti Lovers”.

Riddick

If you can overlook some of Vin Diesels ‘cheesy’ one-liners in the previous Riddick adventures, this should be a great Sci-Fi encounter. Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick’s past. Classification: PG 13 Director: David Twohy Starring: Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff

PREVIEWS World War Z

A very interesting movie choice for ‘superstar’ Brad Pitt! He plays United Nations employee Gerry Lane in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, threatening to decimate humanity itself. I love a good zombie munch, lets hope this ticks the brain eating boxes! Classification: TBC Director: Marc Forester Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, David Morse
