Say What? FOOTLOOSE

Great news this past week for the dancers of New York City. Hard to believe, but an archaic law called the Cabaret Law has seen dancing outlawed in most bars since 1926, but recently this decree is in the process of being repealed. This will be a massive boost for the once great music scene in The Big Apple. Hopefully NYC can return to the glory days of the 90’s and further back.

SOUND OF TEN

Ableton have released exciting new details of the new and tenth instalment of their game changing digital audio workstation. The German made DAW revolutionised the face of music production when it was released in 2001 and with the new version offering 4 new devices - Wavetable, Echo, Drum Bass and Pedal the tenth instalment looks to make a massive impact when it hits the street in early 2018. ableton.com

WE LOVE BUSSOLA

With the longstanding Italian eatery and pizzeria standing firm in its current spot 4 years before the attached The Westin Hotel (10 years old next year) was even in place is a true testament to just how successful and loved this restaurant really is. Maintaining a solid reputation in the burgeoning Italian restaurant scene is no mean feat and can also count top chef Gary Rhodes amongst its most ardent fans. There are many factors that go in to the Bussola experience, first of all there is the fantastic service. From the moment you step foot in Bussola to the moment you leave, quality of service is of the utmost importance. The atmosphere in Bussola is reason enough to visit, with DJ’s performing out on the popular terrace every weekend there is a real party atmosphere during the famous La Notte Bianca aperitivo’s and La Tavolata brunch that take place on a Saturday (full match report on this later in the issue). Come sundown, there are few places in Dubai Marina that capture the romance of an Arabian sunset as well as Bussola does. Then there is the food, my word the food is remarkable. If you like fresh hand crafted pizza and delectable pasta you simply need to visit to truly understand. For more information go to facebook.com/bussoladubai.

117 FIESTA DE LOS MUERTOS @ AUTISM ROCKS ARENA

It’s close to midnight and something evil is lurking in the dark. Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart! Well not your heart but your throat and taste buds maybe, that’s right, it’s the massive Fiesta De Los Muertos and as it’s perceived as a family event they’ve decided to make it dry, go figure! I’m not sure if this turn of events, literally announced that morning had an impact on the crowd but it certainly did on the atmosphere. The people still came though, firstly it was a very mixed line-up, something literally for everyone, from Lebanese pop singer Massari, Carly Rae Jepsen, Stormzy and of course Gorrilaz in attendance but for me the pleasant surprise of the night were The Mariachis, a traditional Mexican band playing mariarchi cover versions of popular songs. They opened with Status Quo’s “Rocking All Over The

World”, through Joy Division and The Smiths, they certainly put a smile on my face and many others. As darkness set in the music stepped up a gear, smoke engulfed the stage and the hottest property in Grime appeared, Stormzy setting the tone and owned the stage, ok it wasn’t a particularly long set but all the hits were covered and the crowd lapped it up. He was gone as quick as he appeared, a quick change and Gorrilaz descended on Dubai. Their full line up is massive, from two drummers and keyboards to backing singers and special guests, songs from every album were played. If you’re late to the party and don’t more than just the hits you have Damon Albarn driving them all home. As the clock hits 11.30pm, the encores start, “Stylo” into the magnificent “Clint Eastwood”, the crowd roar, they want more but it’s too late, they’ve gone and I would guess not to be coming back any time soon. Words by Stephen Day

MOVE W/ SEELIE @ CASA LATINA, IBIS AL BARSHA

Smoke machine – check. Low level lighting – check. Booming sound system – check. Good local DJ’s – check. Hot UK talent – check. You must have been at Movedxb on Thursday 27/11/17. It’s a hard business bringing musical talent to DXB and the biggest and best have failed in the past but Move’s music policy seems to fit the location and the Dubai crowd it wants to attract. Residents TODD and Russ Cooper were first on the decks getting the crowd switched, focused and ready to dance until the small hours of the morning. The main man Seelie (Illusion Recordings / One Records) taking over just after midnight, you could tell his choice of records were on point throughout the night with examples such as Mimram – “Body Language” (The Str8jackets Deluded Rub) and Depeche Mode’s – “Personal Jesus” (Religare & Brannco Bootleg). Seelie was a solid booking from the Move boys. Move has all the right ideas with their music policy and long may it continue in a town where even the big boys in the game get it wrong from time to time. Words by Pablo Walker

BARASTI POOL OPENS

There has been no escaping the fact that one of the bigs news of the season is that Barasti has now got its own swimming pool. What is even better is that the much-loved beach club will remain free of charge. Situated between the decked area of the lower bar and the mainstage, the pool will be the perfect spot from which to enjoy all the action. BLUE MARLIN IBIZA UAE X UBERHAUS

If you were at the last edition of Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE meets Uberhaus you will know the dome was a huge success. This time the Beirut crew will be bringing none other than Seth Troxler and Lil’ Louis to deliver the noise. Also, joining in on the action will be Nastia and BMI mainstay Frederick Stone. Remember that this is a Thursday event, so mark December 14 in your diaries.

SOHO GARDEN

With a recent flurry of entertainment district openings, it would seem developers at Meydan have been harbouring a burning secret. Soho Garden, a 14,000 square meter project will house nightclubs, pools, bars and an insane 10,000 capacity concert stage. The great news is that you won’t have to wait long to see what all the fuss is about as part of the nightlife complex is due to open before the year is out. BASEMENT JAXX AT INNER CITY ZOO NYE

One of the first NYE bookings to hit the ether is none other Basement Jaxx performing a DJ set at Inner City Zoo. With the club at the Rixos Premium in JBR only opening a short while ago, this is a clear case of intent as Basement Jaxx are an impressive booking. The influential duo is famous for their party starting sets, so this seems like an inspired booking.

CIRCOLOCO SPEEDS IN TO DUBAI Formula One weekend is always the highlight of the clubbing calendar in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi and few do it bigger than Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE. Infusion Magazine takes a closer look at their blockbusting Circoloco party on Friday, November 24‌

loco dice For the clued up amongst you, you will know all about Circoloco and the crazy parties that take place at DC-10 in Ibiza. For those that don’t, allow Infusion Magazine to enlighten you. Taking the Ibiza party scene by storm in 1999 was 2 Italian promoters Antonio Carbonaro & Andrea Pelino, taking their parties back to basics with an open-ended ethos of throwing parties that they would want to go to. Those early parties were the stuff of legends, where the biggest DJ’s came to loosen off and where memories were made week in, week out. This is also the place where some genre defining artists made their name. Loco Dice and his early minimal sets at the

&ME

club proved to define the clubs sound at one of the most important times for the club. At a time where Circoloco was making the transition from buzz club to world-wide institution, having residents like Dice at Circoloco set a precedence for what was to become one of the most sprawling line ups to be found in Ibiza. It was a no brainer to bring back Loco Dice to Dubai for one of the hottest parties of the year – F1 weekend. With the line-ups including a who’s who of forward thinking house and techno, Circoloco is still a place where up and coming artists are booked on their merit rather than Facebook likes. Two such artists that have featured heavily this season for Circoloco is the pair of Keinemusik artists Rampa and &ME. From their combined releases on esteemed labels such as Saved, Kompakt, Cocoon, Innervisions and Mobilee these artists have some serious production chops.

rampa

Completing the line-up is the raucous duo of Solardo. Having traced the progress of their meteoric rise to the top has been nothing short of cosmic. From plying their trade at some of the most intimate parties in the UK to setting off on a non-stop world tour, the Solardo lads are often looked upon as the antithesis of the new school tech house and techno, all in black serious look. Instead they rock up to gigs with loud shifts and caps back to front like they mean business. This undeniable success was punctuated perfectly with the British duo picking up Breakthrough Artist at this year’s DJ Awards in Ibiza. It would almost seem like a homecoming not worth missing to catch the duo play at the Circoloco party at Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE on Friday, November 24.

NEXT AT BASE

In a slight departure from the usual Thursday – house, Friday – hip hop combo, BASE Dubai are mixing things up a little bit. And then some. Latino mega star Jennifer Lopez will perform at the open air super club on Thursday, November 16. With the American artist dropping hot new track “Amor, Amor, Amor” recently, things will be sure to heat up real quick when J.Lo hits the stage. This is a show not to be missed.

“Rack City” artist Tyga is embarking on a 6-date tour to celebrate his own birthday. Kicking off his tour on Tuesday, November 14 at Space Club in Florence, Tyga will then make his way to BASE Dubai on Friday, November 17. Coming via London and Milan, will then see him go on to stop off in Paris and finally Miami. The US rapper is no stranger to touring, so expect him to be firing on all cylinders when he takes to the stage in Dubai.

Thursday, November 23 will see none other than Moroccan / American rapper French Montana headline BASE Dubai. Also, known as Karim Kharbouch, the hip hop artist has progressed somewhat since his early days creating street DVD’s and now rubs shoulders with the biggest names in the business. Regularly collaborating with the likes of Rick Ross, Ashanti and DJ Khaled is a far cry from his days in Rabat, Morocco. Growing up on the mean streets of South Bronx, French Montana has more than earned his stripes and in the last year has been nominated for no less 3 Grammy’s. Make sure you book your spot for an “Unforgettable” night. Rounding out November at BASE Dubai will be DJ Cruz on Friday, November 24. The Swiss turntablist cut his teeth on the thriving Zurich music scene and has since gone on to receive support from massive names in the game such as Avicii, Tiesto and Grammy winner Cedric Gervais. Expect DJ Cruz to wind you through some of the best music around when it all goes down at BASE Dubai. For more information go to facebook.com/BaseDubai

FORCE OF RESISTANCE

Beyond the Track add some serious firepower to their Saturday night show with Carl Cox…

When Beyond the Track announced they’re series of parties at this year’s Formula One in Abu Dhabi later this month interest was piqued immediately. The line-up of Martin Garrix (Nov 24), Tïesto (Nov 26) and Carl Cox headlining on Saturday, November 25 certainly had chins wagging. For some that would be enough to carry off one of the parties of the F1 weekend, not so Beyond the Track and Alchemy Project.

Making their Abu Dhabi debut in conjunction with the powerhouse events company is the behemoth Ultra Music Festival stage – Resistance. With the Miami edition reading like a who’s who of electronic music, but where the scaled down Abu Dhabi version lacks in artist quantity it more than makes up in artist quality. Also, added to the line-up alongside the legendary Carl Cox is Nic Fancuilli. Since Carl’s Revolution began Nic has been an integral part and has become a major player in Carl Cox’s legacy at Space, Ibiza. Together, the 2 artists commanded legions of clubbers most weeks during their Space tenure and Nic was also entrusted to help lead the Space faithful in one last dance at the famous club. As well as playing host to the biggest names in house and techno, Resistance is also famed for its jaw dropping stage production. With this year’s Resistance stage at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival featuring none other than the Arcadia Spider, you can guarantee that the du Forum will be transformed completely.

ZOOTOPIA Having previously reviewed what Sandy Beach Resort had to offer a few months ago, we were really excited to hear of Zooptopia taking place by the iconic beach side hotel resort on Friday, November 17. What was even more exciting was the line-up that was going to be powering the event‌

Headlining the intimate event is Jimi Jules, the Watergate and Cocoon artist currently resides in Switzerland but this summer has seen the talented producer spinning in the likes of Berlin, Barcelona, Ibiza, Paris and of course his home base of Switzerland to name only a few of his recent destinations. Joining Jimi Jules is Uberhaus resident and versatile DJ – Nesta. Through his international gigs and wide-ranging residency at the Beirut institution he has shared the decks with some of the biggest names in electronic music such as Jeff Mills, Hunee, Solomun, Ame and East End Dubs. And that has just been this year! Completing the line-up is an artist who is rightly receiving a huge number of plaudits from his peers and clubbers alike. Bahrani producer Zone+ has, since his stand out release “Akarian” been inducted in to the close-knit family of Lee Burridge and his All Day I Dream imprint. As if the music wasn’t a good enough reason to make the short trip, the picturesque backdrop will seal the deal. For more information go to facebook.com/mysnoopybeats

MADJAM

IN RESIDENCE

Having flexibility in the music that a DJ plays is often a mark of a great selector. MaDJam is one of the most flexible DJ’s out there, as his gig rap sheet will attest. Infusion Magazine sat down with the new Stereo Arcade resident to find out more about …

For those that don’t know you, what is your background in music? I’ve been DJing since 1992, pretty much everything from carnivals at school to clubs at age 13, sport events, concert openers, radio, airlines and the incredible after hour’s scene. What has been your biggest gig to date? In Beirut was probably the Tiesto 2005 opening set with 15,000 people or Creamfields Abu Dhabi in 2011 with over 18,000 playing between filler sets between the main acts. I do enjoy the variety of gigs - either 200 people in a dark club or 10,000 at a David Guetta warmup, same adrenaline rush I live for. What attracted you to Stereo Arcade for your residency? Years ago at Republique, Samer Hamadeh’s first club, we did a night called “Legacy” which was a trip down memory lane of everything house music. From the late 80s all the way to the current anthems. Bringing that same vibe back to Stereo Arcade is like digging through memories that has always put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Tell us more about your residency? What will the night sound like? Since I’m playing solo for the full 4-hours the first chunk is pretty much anything that fits the warmup - jazzy, groovy, jackin, even a drop of G house. Then as the night peaks some house anthems from the 90s, some uplifting Balearic tunes and even a bit of techno. It’s the random-ness of the selection in conjunction with the Tetrisdécor and fun that is Stereo Arcade (along with the arcade games of course!) How did the opening night go? What was your biggest track? First night was a lot of fun! I experimented with quite a few new sounds to drive the crowd into a different direction than anything they’d get anywhere else, with some “Peppermint” favorites (for those who remember Dubai from 2004). One highlight was Mark Knight & Funkagenda “Man With The Red Face” worked nicely even for those that never heard it before! Having 3 CDJs in that super comfy booth gives me the creative freedom to choose and mix layers and layers of different tracks every week. Looking forward to next Friday!

ABRI & THE DREAMFLEET

Ahead of the bands live debut at the inaugural Mutek AE festival later this month, Walid Nehmé caught up with Abri & The Dreamfleet to talk about the band’s debut performance and album “We Fly”…

What can you tell us about the project and how it came together? Adriano - Well, we had been thinking for a while to do something together the three of us, individually we had discussed the opportunity of collaborating, Mostyn and Hamdan had already worked on a track for a separate project and Mostyn and I had already worked on a remix as well. We have all known each for a while now, maybe 5/6 years, so this was the perfect opportunity to work on this project. I guess Mostyn and I started putting a few musical ideas down initially as we wanted to share something with Hamdan, so that he could come and see what he thought about it and just work from there. How will you deliver the album at Mutek AE? Mostyn – Live wise, the way we would like to do it is to stick quite close to the form of the tracks on the album. We are aware that this will be the first time that we have performed live properly together, so what we are trying to do is strip it back and break it down and add live elements to the bare elements. Rather than try and break it all down to

a bass player, horn section or guitarist, we want to focus on keeping it electronic, but also working with visuals. That’s why we feel it would be perfect for Mutek, because it is such a big element of the festival. So, having an experience and a show more so than a live band up on stage performing. From a band perspective, who is handling what? Adriano – Hamdan is handling the vocals, hahaha. Hamdan – I am doing the vocals with something called Voice Live, this allows me to put different types of effects on my vocals to give it more layers and dynamics as far as the vocals go. Mostyn – I have the mixer and the stems of the track and I will be doing live drops and dubs and a few esoteric sounds over the top of that. Adriano is playing guitar and some synths, depending on the track, so we are just layering up the different parts. I get to hide behind the mixer, hahaha. With Mutek making its debut in the region, how do you think it will impact and add value to the local scene? Hamdan – As much as there are people doing a band format and acoustic music there are also producers and musicians that are using electronics, so it is a good look having Mutek coming down here so they can have the support as well, as opposed to just having rock festivals. Mostyn – To have Mutek come and shine a light on the UAE for the rest of the world to see that there is interesting and talented music and electronic art happening here is really important. Hopefully it is just the start of more to come, in my ten years here it has gradually gotten better, so it is a great thing for us to be involved and support.

POWER OF

MUSIC El Chiringuito has been delivering stunning line-ups in Dubai for some time now, but their pop-up F1 on Friday, November 24 at Yas Beach, Abu Dhabi is nothing short of frightening‌.

Leading the F1 ceremony is Sven Vath and for some that would be more than enough. What Sven has accomplished in his lengthy career is incomprehensible to some and awe inspiring to others, and the only weapons Papa Sven has at his disposal is 2 turntables and bag of wax.

Joining Sven is the in-demand French trio - Apollonia. Consisting of Shonky, Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Soundorom, this band of brothers are famed for their extended back to back to back sets and rolling out only the best under the radar bangers, forgotten gems as well as their own on point productions. Completing the array of international guests is none other than Germany’s first lady of tech-house – tINI. A long-time member of the Desolat family, she has since spread her wings and taken her own brand – tINI and the gang around the world with her. Whether she is commanding a festival mainstage or leading intimate dancefloors along a winding journey, tINI will keep you moving all night long. Taking care of the local business will be the usual suspects of Deian, Maks, Diamond Setter and Hassan Alwan.

Soundstage ROBERTO WILSON

Multi-instrumental musician Roberto Wilson gives Infusion Magazine the scoop… My biggest gig ever was…headlining ‘Sounds By The Sea’ with DaVinci Park at Cove Beach Dubai and playing in front of more than 2,000 people I’m most proud of…The Ghost Crew. We’re a group of session musicians who recorded three number one albums here in Dubai with producer, Josh F. Williams. The artist I’d most like to work with is…Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) because he’s ‘My Hero’ or Jeff Buckley to learn his masterful ways of poetry. One thing you may not know about me is that…I love to sketch. Whether it’s a doodle, still-life or a cartoon – I can sit there for hours and get lost in my own little world. This year, I’m playing in…Hard Rock Café in Dubai Festival City. Our band The Distillers play every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If I had to live in one decade it would be…1970s. Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin… need I say more? The one piece of music kit I can’t live without is…my Nord Stage! Nord’s keyboards are second to none. 7 years working together and we’ve never fallen out once.

For more information go to @robomusic and @ thedistillersdxb (Instagram)

DJ BOOTH: JU LOVETT

DJ, producer, promoter and radio host Ju Lovett lifts the lid on his life inside the beat‌

One thing you might not know about me is…I’ve been an airline pilot for the last 10 years. My favourite ever record is…Christian Smith & John Selway’s “Total Departure” (Cirez D Remix). What track could you drop in every set? Right now, I’d say it has to be Victor Ruiz & Drunken Kong’s – “Inside Out” remixed by Reinier Zonneveld on Tronic. I can’t live without…my studio, I’m literarily here all the time! My biggest DJ achievement to date is… Dysfunktion Radio. When I started the show, we were only signed to one station, and in less than a year we have now been signed to more than 30 stations across the globe from Japan to Brazil. If you could DJ in any decade which would it be…Well, for me the music and energy in clubs was the best between 1995 and 2005. People really knew how to party back then. If I could go back to back with any other DJ it would be…Sven Väth. I mean for me he is the ultimate DJ and a true master. No one else is like him, not even close.

The Weekend Social ELEMENT SATURDAY BRUNCH @ PURE SKY LOUNGE HILTON HOTEL JBR WALK Winter is coming. And no, that’s not a polite nod to HBO’s smash hit, it’s a “get-your-hands-up-in-the-air-wave-’em-around-like-youjust-don’t-care” celebration of the fact that you can sit outside again, without melting like the candle I accidentally left on the balcony through summer, that I spent a good hour scraping off the table and floor with a credit card. What better way to bask in the glory of the best time of year, than to head to a favourite of ours, Pure Sky Lounge and check out their newly launched ELEMENT Alternative brunch?

With the perfect backdrop of the sun-setting behind Ain Dubai (that big new ferris wheel on Bluewater Island), it’s the ultimate location to host a late afternoon/early evening brunch (the brunch runs from 4pm-7pm) and for 275 AED for beer and spirits (325 AED if you fancy bubbles), you’ll be pressed to find a greater deal in the city offering such beautiful vistas. There’s not a whiff off pretension in sight either; the DJs, donned in shorts and t-shirts, spin chill-out beats and guests relax in a boho-themed setting, complete with hippie-head pieces and reclaimed pallet furniture. The brunch is a mixed bag of flavours and cuisines, with predominantly Asian-themed starters (the star fruit marinated yellow-fin tuna the big highlight), seguing into meaty mains and a small dessert platter to finish. With the food satisfying appetites nicely all you’ll want to do is kick back, enjoy the free-flowing drinks and watch top DJs - Carlos Tadros, Sam & Tonic and Ed Wise at the top of their game. Once brunch is over, the party continues with their Sunset Session / Happy Hour deals from 7-8pm, so if want to watch the sun go down and end the weekend in style without breaking the bank, make sure you get a reservation, as when word fully gets out about ELEMENTS, I’m sure it’s going to be tough to get in! CHINA GRILL BRUNCH @ THE WESTIN HOTEL MINA SEYAHI RESORT China Grill has built a name for itself over the past couple of years with its almost infamous Toy Brunch concept intended to satiate the most famished of furries or Furbys, whichever particular predilection takes your fancy. From a rethink over the summer months comes this spanking new package they’ve just started offering fresh off the press this season. Enter the return-to-roots concept of food, booze and beats in its womb of a Macau-styledhigh-rise-club-cum-opium-den setting. The food here is simply fabulous - firmly footed as you’d expect in Asian cuisine with a broad range of classic dishes mixed in with some more experimental fare.

The whole massive platter of starters on display offers every kind of sushi, sashimi, nigiri and all the fresh lobster and shrimp trappings that you can fit. The cooking stations include the finest fresh Hoi Sin Duck rolls opposite a while-you-wait Teppanyaki of skewered meats and fish - they’re awesome, tasty, succulent and sumptuous and hit the spot with aplomb. The noodle station offers further opportunity for tasty, freshly cooked fare. All manner of grape, hops, bubbles and softs flow freely (with sparkling water interestingly not included in the full package, presumably following the hike in soft drink prices, even though sodas are included?!) with a tasty rack of desserts to finish it all off including a particularly dangerous mini-chocolate tarte well worth that extra gasp. All the while the room is filled with an eclectic selection from Infusion’s own Stu Todd on the decks upstairs. Once 4pm comes and the doormen begin their requisite ritual gently nudging everybody in the direction of upstairs’ after party by the DJ booth. All told it’s a fun affair in a perfectly shadowy and silhouetted setting if that’s your thing. The non-smokers may not be so chuffed to see the lack of a non-smoking area anywhere, especially with smokers right next to the entire platter of starters. Overall, it’s neither China nor a Grill, not just a restaurant but not a club or a bar either, kind of a hybrid of all the above - if that sounds like your kind of thing then you’ll absolutely love it here so dive in! Eat Sleep Rave Repeat LA TAVOLATA @ BUSSOLA, THE WESTIN HOTEL, MINA SEYAHI RESORT.

Dubai’s Italian Stallion’s done it again, dishing out another slice of the lazy life for people that brunch amidst this glorious urban sprawl. You see, if you find yourself off the back of a mashed-up double-headed Friday night foray, say, care of those glorious meaty beaty people at Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE, followed by a quick jaunt up Sheiky Zee to Groove on the Grass or some such hedonistic vibe, your head will likely be

a little ginger come Saturday morning. This is where the wise folk of Bussola’s cosy crew have realised the lazy lunch long afternoon sprawl nursing those hangovers and replenishing your body and soul is something they want to offer - and offer it in style. This reviewer and his better half had just the chance to sample their wares shortly after its launch, just as the luscious weather started to settle in (while the rest of the world braces itself for autumnal freezes) setting the scene for nothing short of a blissful and understated chance to fill our boots. The theme’s all about mezze-styled fine-dining grub served aside an array of Italian bubbles, grapes, hops and softs all washed down to the backdrop of one of the city’s defining poolside beach clubs and sound tracked by the mixology of this magazine’s very own irony-free moustachioed DJ - TODD (it truly is a sight to behold, God help us all, I really don’t know how his missus puts up with that). The whole package is an inclusive brunch-styled affair and from the look of these dishes you can see they’re not messing about here, whether you’re looking to soak up last night’s libations into a state of sobriety or enjoy the sensuous palate of tastes on offer. Everything gets dished up in

stages and you won’t miss out on any tasty morsel from the menu, plus they’ll even bring out more of your favs if you want. For us the bruschetta and Arancini were highlights from the starter platter, loving the goat cheese and green pea combo there, working a treat. As for the hot mains, the fritturina di calamri e gamberetti properly hit the spot as anything tastily deep fried on a Saturday come-down would do especially when combined with the rosemary basked alette di pollo arrosto chicken wings - succulent, juicy and bang on. Peroni always does the trick for me, as for grapes the red Sangiovese was about one of the nicest slickest house reds I’ve had in a long while, the white Trebbiano crisply dry and lush in full flow. The desserts are rightly simple, sweet & rustic instead of a typical Friday brunch’s chocolate-slaked tour-de-force, because, well, we’ve all got work tomorrow and no-one fancies a Saturday night of recovering from a recovery sesh. Tiramisu’s coffee not too fierce and nicely underscored with the chocolate fringe while the creamy panacotta and fruit salad were both on point. A final couple of cocktails - the home made Negroni is exceptional - and onwards to the deck of dreams care of Mr Todd’s percussive resonance as the sun starts to drop into the Gulf and you feel ready for whatever next week has to throw at you. Couldn’t think of a better way to wind up a weekend - get yourself down for a sesh. Words by Neil Henderson

A STING IN THE TAIL For any of you reading this that might drive a car, or have ever been in a car, or are even aware that cars exist you will know that travelling in one can be wrought with danger. Especially on the highways and byways of Dubai. So why would other drivers go out of their way to make even the most straight forward of journeys even more dangerous? The sensible thing to do would be to ensure that there is safe amount of space between you and the car next to you as often as possible, not so in Dubai. It seems to be a “thing” to drive as close to the car in front of you as possible, I am not sure if this is a space saving exercise or just plain idiocy but what these “people” who insist on tailgating don’t seem to realise that the space directly behind our cars is there to save everybody’s life. So, be a normal human being and stop endangering everybody’s life for the sake of a few yards or a few seconds shaved off your personal best along SZR. Rant over.
