I’ll be honest, I’m a bit of a Halloween scrooge, or whatever the witching night equivalent is. I don’t get dressed up, I don’t don a school girl’s outfit and I don’t do the walk of shame the next morning dressed like a booze-ravaged Centurion, as I witnessed last year. But it seems I’m very much in the minority, as on Friday October 31, the event calendar explodes in a gory-laden horrorfest with thousands descending zombie like to dozens of venues to try and win Dsh50,000 for dressing up like a Walking Dead extra. Or you could dress in all white and head to Sensation to see our cover event in action. Either way, you’ll be dressing up to get down, which is the important bit. Andy

What we did
Gary Barlow @ Media City Amphitheatre Anyone who remembers the British music scene from the early 90s is already familiar with Take That. And anyone who was a fan (which was almost every female in the UK at the time), would remember Gary Barlow and the ‘million love songs’ he wrote and those distinctly luscious vocals of his. So, it was no wonder almost all of UAE’s British lasses and their partners turned up at DMC on Friday to catch him live. From classic Take-That tunes, to some from his solo career, to a splendid Swing medley and an acoustic set as well, the supremely versatile Gazza certainly knew how to entertain his lady-dominated crowd, especially when he sang live to crowdmember Wendy with Gaz on the piano. Sigh. Oh, and the impressive Dubai College Chamber Choir got to share the stage with him too, putting on an astounding performance. Sure, some of us missed the rest of the TT lads, but the nostalgic visual of some of their past concerts that started the show (on time!) and the tremendous music ensemble (that sax!) surely helped. A class act and one us fans will *never forget*. – Sarah Abel V

Bingo Players @ Nasimi
Festival main-stage frequenter and must-have track producer Bingo Players came to Nasimi Beach on Thursday 9th October courtesy of Bong Events. With Sandance the following night, the crowd might have been bigger, but the venue greeted around 500 people throughout the night for the welcoming of one of the big DJs to enter the UAE this season. With help from some much-needed speaker improvements and an active light-show, the crowd quickly got into the groove of Greg Stainer’s banging opening set before the main act stepped up to the decks. Known for hit tunes such as ‘Rattle and Cry’, the Bingo Players dropped a set comprising of everything from deep house tunes from Oliver Heldens to progressive tracks from some of the biggest names in the industry. It’s fair to say that, despite an emotional time recently for the Bingo Players surrounding the passing of Paul, one of the duo, they are here to stay as one of the staple names in the genre. – Sam Moult

Drift @ 0 Gravity Eking out the last drops of the weekend is something this city specializes in, and 0 Gravity’s latest offering is one of the best weekend extenders. An all day/evening affair that encompasses picnics, beach BBQs, live music and some of the city’s best DJs on rotation, it’s already become an Infusion favourite. Our tip is to grab one of the cabanas, rock up with a group of friends and get your BBQ on – the food is excellent (the mini burgers and cold meat and cheese platters went down quicker than you could say ‘another bottle of Rose please’). And you even get the chance to become your own chef, although thankfully expert chef Venkatesen was on hand when we started our grilling session. Alternatively, head down for sundowners, take in the expansive JBR views and the pristine beach and green oasis surroundings and catch one of the city’s best live musicians Adam Baluch live in action.

Looking Forward Burning down the beach
Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE are throwing their own Burning Beach themed party on Friday October 31, and have one of the best line ups we’ve seen at the venue, with Dennis Ferrer joined by French electronic icon Miss Kitten (pictured). In a joint venture, Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE have teamed up with Blitz productions (the guys behind Plus/Minus) and are promising that the day will transport guests to a ‘new psychedelic galaxy where imagination can run wild and creativity has no limits,’ with guests invited to dress up and get in the spirit.
Freestylers at Superheroes
With a big buzz surrounding Superheroes already this season, the bass/garage/house night is back in international territory again on October 30 with guest DJs The Freestylers. Having made their name in the breaks scene at the turn of the century, they’ve branched out into all bass genres, so expect breakbeat, house, garage, dubstep, Drum and Bass and more on the night. As ever, it’s free entry and starts from 6pm at the Dek on 8.
Cavalli go big! The Sheikh Zayed Road club have upped the ante big time this season, with some huge hip hop/ RnB and house bookings. Rosay, held every Wednesday, is bringing down Cut Killer on October 29, Sean Paul on November 5 and DJ Magnum on November 12, while Occupy Sundays has a massive line up of electronic talent including Erick Morillo (pictured) on November 9, Danny Avila on November 16 and Laidback Luke in December. Ooft! Nonweekend partying has never had it so good.
Looking Forward Drum and bass in the place
Two big bits of D’n’B news for you this issue. Globalfunk is back in action on November 20 and have signed up scene pioneer Fabio for his first ever show in the region at Level 41 (yeah, that’s pretty big). Bassworx are also back in action, and have another scene veteran making his debut, with A Sides playing at Casa Latina on Friday October 31. They’re also raising money for MC Fats who sadly lost his legs due to diabetes, with entry Dhs60 including one drink.
Hip hop masterclass
DUST are back in action once again, and they’re on the hip hop tip for their Thursday October 30 event as they’ve got DMC winner and turntable champion Mr Thing, ex of the Scratch Perverts. The fun doesn’t stop there, as they’ve booked hugely talented Middle East rapper The Narcycist as well as local support from Malikah and Eslam all playing live at the Music Room.

It’s free entry until 5.30pm, and turn up before 9pm, and your Dhs70 entry fee will get you a free drink.
Looking Forward Rumours
•
Joey Negro is returning to the city for a party set at Barasti, followed by a special beach disco set the following day.
Jackin' house master Derrick Carter is said to be heading to Dubai in the new year
Sister Bliss has been confirmed as one of the headline Djs for the Podium Lounge after-parties at this year's Formula One in Abu Dhabi
• • • •
Ella Eyre has been added to next year’s Red Fest line up. James Blunt has been confirmed as one of next year’s Jazz Festival headliners.
We’re loving the live music scene at the moment, with Empire of the Sun, Jagwar Ma and Flamingods all touching down in the last couple of weeks. More please! Big ups to Infusion’s Chris Rayner who got hitched to the beautiful Tiff last weekend, happy days! Already an international party destination, Goa is set to be the next Tomorrowland destination if the rumours we’ve heard are true.
If the rumour mill is to be believed, that could well have been the last Sandance due to a planned hotel expansion. Thanks for the music! People who don't understand how lifts work. There is no hope for you. Hell returns to the roads, thanks to the canal project disrupting Sheikh Zayed Road. Yay!

ti m e After months of tantric-like build up, it’s time for the first ever outdoor Sensation White and time for one of the biggest events to ever hit the Emirates. We caught up with 3 of the DJs, Max Vangeli, Roger Sanchez and global resident Mr White, to find out what to expect on Friday October 31 We have a pair of tickets to give away, head to infusion.ae
Welcome to Dubai, what do you know/have you heard about the city? Max Vangeli: Only the most amazing things, honestly! I mean everyone talks about Dubai. Roger Sanchez: I have been to Dubai many times and am impressed by the people, the architecture and the vibe of the city! Mr White: Everybody who I talked to about Dubai, told me they were really, really impressed, so I'm exited! It's my first time I'll visit Dubai and I can't wait to see the Burj Khalifa. What does playing a Sensation event feel like, what makes it so special? Max Vangeli: When I started DJing that was probably my biggest dream to play Sensation, and when we finally did it that was the most amazing thing ever. Sensation is the most amazing event in the world, and I’m always excited to be part of it.
Roger Sanchez: It's a huge event and it feels as if you are part of a Tribe of revelers! They put so much attention and effort into the production that it is always a unique experience. Mr White: You can't imagine. There's some sort of united energy you won't find anywhere else. And I'm lucky enough to open every Sensation, to start the show, which is, of course, the best spot! It's incredible how massive the response is when I play the first track. And how do you feel when you're standing in front of `15,000 people? Max Vangeli: Pure magic! It’s hard to describe the feeling, but when you are in the zone and every person in the crowd is having a good time, that’s the best feeling in the world. Roger Sanchez: Incredible. I have played for large crowds like that often and I always buzz from the energy! Mr White: Insane. It’s something you never get used to. 15,000 people is such a huge crowd. What's your tip for keeping your white clothes clean on the night? Max Vangeli: Haha no tip at all, I usually go all out and recycle after! Roger Sanchez: Don't touch anything! Mr White: Bring an extra pair of clothes. You're playing on Halloween night, what's been your scariest clubbing experience? Max Vangeli: I once played and the electricity went out in the whole place, that was a bit weird and scary at the same time. But when it went back on the crowed went nuts.
Roger Sanchez: I played in an outdoor DJ booth suspended 3 stories above the dance floor on wires – that was pretty intense when the wind blew! Mr White: Watching a YouTube of Paris Hilton DJing. What tune is likely to be big in your set? Max Vangeli: Our new record with Antoine called 'Tonight'. Roger Sanchez: I think my S-man 'Dangerous Thoughts' track will be a big one – it's all about the bass! Mr White: Housequake – 'Maximize'. I've played this one at previous Sensations, a big crowdpleaser! And which DJ are you most looking to seeing on the night? Max Vangeli: I’m friends with all those guys so its always nice to see them and have a good time. Roger Sanchez: I'm looking forward to catching up with Max Vangelli – we always have a laugh when we meet up! Mr White: I'm really curious about Hard Rock Sofa. And of course Martin Garrix, he's the man of the moment right now. I'm impressed with what he achieved in the last two years.

A decade in dance we are 10 A decade in business is impressive. A decade in the dance music and publishing industry is, if you don’t mind us tooting our own horn, pretty amazing. We’ve had plenty of highs (Cypress Hill played our birthday party last year, the Full Moon Parties at Nasimi got so busy the Palm tunnel had to be shut down and we've printed approximately 234 million pages). And there have been a few, mainly hangover related lows, but we’ve done it our way, in our style and picked up a fair few fans and devoted followers along the way. And to celebrate our decade in dance, we’ve brought back two of our favourite bookings to see our way into our 10th year. After nearly bringing the roof down on the Dek on 8 when he played earlier this year – quite the achievement considering there isn't one – Osunlade returns for more soulfuric house, while Dutch DJ and funky white guy Born to Funk returns after several stand out Infusion gigs. And, it wouldn’t be an Infusion party without the company’s main man and after party instigator Charl Chaka getting involved. It all takes place on Friday November 7 at the Dek on 8 from 6pm with free entry all night, and we can’t wait to dance our way into our second decade with all you lovely people.
It’s gone from a Marina eyesore to the hottest joint in town, as Pier 7 joins the dots from laidback dinner (Fume), after work drinks (Cargo), food with a twist (The Scene) and 3 levels of nightlife and live music courtesy of Atelier M. We had the enviable task of hitting each of the 7 venues Pier 7, Dubai Marina Mall, pier7.ae
Atelier M
Best for: Nightlife At the very top of Pier 7 you can find Atelier M, a sleek sophisticated venue dominated by the huge bug-eyed mirrored bar in the centre of the room. Having arrived mid week for the ladies night the venue was an energetic mix of expats, tourists and musos awaiting the start of resident band Abri. The staff are all attentive, friendly and know the menu inside out. The food was amazing, and
their sticky toffee pudding the best we have had. Tuesdays nights is Ladies night and with Hamdan at the helm, musically you can’t go wrong. A perfect place for a more upmarket
night with the girls. And with deep house and RnB on offer throughout the week, notably on popular weekend night J’Adore, Atelier M has quickly become the go-to venue in the Marina.
The Scene
Best for: Something Different
an adventurous menu with taste twists throughout. The chicken wings came in a tangy, finger-licking Asian influenced sauce – and you know chicken wings are good when you have the sauce splattered all over your face. The Scene burger exploded in a juicy mess in our mouth, and came with a portion of crunchy and chunky fries. The whole burger was so good and filling, it almost made me wish I was hungover to appreciate it even more. Add in their impressive cocktails, the sprawling bar, and the views over the Marina from the terrace and you have a posh – but well priced – dinner option that definitely offers something different.
Asia Asia
Beanos for wallpaper, chintzy photos on the wall, mis-matched furniture and a food menu that includes Smoked Salmon Lasagna for two and Elderflower and raspberry trifle: The Scene is certainly different. Thanks to UK head chef Simon Rimmer, the Gastro-pub has created
Best for: Very Cool Date Night There’s only so much food you can stomach at a press opening. One event blurs into another (I know, poor us), with the same predictable boring people doing the same circuit that it gets to a point where all you want is quiet night in with cheese on toast. Asia Asia was a welcome surprise. We were looked after right from the get go with a little welcome kiss and cuddle from our favourite northerner and venue Operations Manager, Spencer Hartwell. And those
boring people? There were none! When we walked into the restaurant we bumped into some lovely faces we hadn’t seen for a while which made the new venue already feel like it should become our regular dinning spots. We were treated to 4 course meal ranging from freshly prepared sushi rolls, light and tasty crab salad, a
mouth watering Black-Cod dish (that I didn’t want to share with my date) and the best desert ever - chocolate spring rolls with vanilla ice-cream, which also tasted like it had been made from scratch. The food clearly was made with a lot of love and pride which basically had me running my finger around the edge of my plate at the end of the meal.
O'Cacti
Best for: Brunch This Mexican themed venue is popular for all the right reasons – good food, good drink and a cracking atmosphere. But
it’s their 2pm onwards Friday brunch that will have us going back for seconds. Offering a mouth watering A la Carte style menu including fajitas, burritos, nachos, steaks and much more, alongside free-flowing cervezas and cocktails, the 4 hour session is the perfect start to a big day/night out. And with DJ Taya Cruz on the decks and Latino band Latin Grace getting people on the dancefloor, not to mention the 6pm happy hour, there’s plenty to keep you here for the night.
Fume
Best for: Friend/family dinner Fume has a bit of an advantage over the other venues as you have to walk right to its front door in order to get into the lift so naturally you’re going to want to check it out. The first thing you notice is the place is full and there’s a healthy waiting list. When we’re finally sat down with meals ordered, there is a nice buzz about the place. Everyone is just normal. No airs and
graces, or skycraper heels. Just people enjoying good food and good company. The food is really well priced, and although there is no alcohol in the main restaurant, the bar area is just a short walk away giving you the best of both worlds.
pumping out a cool house mix, not to mention the sensibly priced drinks menu, Cargo is the ideal place to wind down after a long day pounding the keyboard at work.
Abd el Wahab
Best for: Something traditional
Cargo
Best for: After Work drinks From the marble-topped counters, to the strong warehouse feel that makes it feel cool and industrial, Cargo is the perfect antidote to Dubai’s plethora of high end bars. With the outdoor terrace offering views across the Marina, and the resident DJ
The only chain restaurant in Pier 7, Lebanese eatery Abd el Wahab has a sister venue at Souk Al Bahar, and both offer exactly the same thing: prime water-side real location, an excellent kitchen serving typical Lebanese food, a shisha friendly terrace and first class service.

5 things you never knew about…
Tanya Stephens
After a huge opening season, Reggae Beach Fest returns to the newly renovated XL Beach Club for another season, and they’ve got one of reggae’s leading ladies, Tanya Stephens, playing a live set…
The Grammy-nominated reggae artist has been making music for over 20 years, and has 2 sure-fire hits behind her, ‘Yuh Nuh Ready Fi Dis Yet’ and ‘It’s A Pity’ (which is a proper tune) helping put her on the worldwide map. She’s released 9 albums in total, some with pun-tastic names like Sintoxicated and Rebelution, and has released on her own Tarantula Records as well as via Warner Brothers. Rebelutions marked a high point for her career, with lead single ‘These Streets’ selling out across Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean. The song plays with Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’ format, making it instantly recognizable. She’s a very opinionated songwriter. In 2011 at the University of the West Indies, Tanya urged other artists to be more responsible and speak out against the objectification of women in dancehall lyrics and the promotion of bigotry and violation of human rights, saying "The music that once spoke to and spread messages of peace and love, now merely judges, condemns and provokes." Tanya will be joined by an all star cast of local supporting DJs, and there will be the usual excellent Jamaican food on offer, including jerk chicken and Oxtail rice and peas. We have a pair of tickets to give away, head to infusion.ae
Reggae Beach Fest Season II, Saturday November 1, XL Beach Club, 2pm-3am, tickets Dhs100 in advance (Platinumlist.net) and Dhs125 on the door, ladies free before 5pm.
My Music
Jimmy Van M Bedrock star Jimmy Van M is the latest DJ to explore their musical history in our My Music feature. We caught up with the Belgium DJ and producer ahead of his October 31 date at audio tonic
What was the first track you DJ'd with? C & C Music Factory - 'Everybody Dance Now.' What would be your wedding song? I'm not really sure as I haven't given too much thought to what I would like for my wedding song but a friend of mine used ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ by INXS. That’s a pretty great choice.
What song makes you switch off the radio? Anything by the Belieber. Your first inspiration or mentor was… He is a very good friend of mine, Sean Cusick who has a massive collection and very deep rich knowledge all genres and music history. His ability to describe why music is important will always keep me keenly tuned in. Guilty musical pleasure? Air - Premiers Symptômes. What song could you listen to over and over again? The Beloved - 'Sweet Harmony'. Which track do you wish you'd made? 'Daydreaming' by Massive Attack. Which of your tracks do you think is the best? If I had to pick, one of my favorite productions is 'Sanctuary' that was released on Bedrock records in early 2000. Who would you most like to collaborate with? Luxor T (who I produce all my music with) and I would love to do something with Ibeyi. Amazing voice, love their track ‘Oya.’ What was the first band or DJ you were into? Band would be Prodigy, heard them live in Orlando before they got big. Was pretty awesome for me at the time. DJ would be Dave Cannalte, who was the one who taught me how to play records. Is there any music you can't listen to? EDM I guess, that particular brand of candy land crap I just cannot get my head around. I have an open ear for any quality music made by musicians/producers who really take care in the music they create. Music is... Impossible to live without. Audio tonic feat. Jimmy Van M + BO18 residents, 360, Friday October 31, 4pm-3am. Free entry.

With Calibre, Marcus Intalex and dBridge as his inspiration, he’s become one of the leading nu-skool DnB DJs, creating his own deep sound, but one that’s flexible enough to introduce other DnB styles. He’s had plaudits from some big name DJs, including up-coming Globalfunk guest DJ Fabio who called his 2010 track ‘Forsaken’ the best DnB track of the year. A long-term fixture in the entertainment calendar, Gulf Bike Week returns with a Globe of Death, stunt riders, 15 live acts across the weekend and loads more. We’ve got all the info you need below… The Live Arena
Hosted by cheeky TV chappy Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers on Discovery, the Live Arena is the action hub of the festival. There’s the Globe of Death, where Danny Varanne’s team of experts and dare devils will get horizontal and very, very vertical as they rush round the cage. Equally high adrenaline is stunt rider Julien Welsch who’ll be bringing all his tricks of the trade with him. And finally, there’s the Custom Bike Competition where Middle Eastern entrants can compete for the Bike Build Championships.
Live Music
Spread across 2 stages, there are 15 bands across the weekend playing a grand total of 31 live sets. And, credit to the organisers, they’ve gone with a 100% local line up, with local favourites like The Boxtones (pictured), Craig Perry and Nikotin on the Time Out stage, while hard rock and metal fans should look forward to Tartarus, Benevolent and Coat of Arms on the Rock Stage.
Thunder Parade
No Bike Week would be complete without the Thunder Parade. Starting at Media City on Friday October 31, the easy riders will rumble through the city - if you’ve ever wanted to be an extra in Sons of Anarchy, this is your chance.
Discovery VIP Lounge
This wouldn’t be a Dubai festival without a VIP area, and this year’s is sponsored by the Discovery Channel where you can rub shoulders with the celebrities and bands.
Food and Drink
And finally, you’ll need to stuff your face to keep your energy levels up for moshing/burning rubber/drooling over bikes. F&B partners include JW Marriot, Urban Bistro, MELT Frozen Yoghurt, Burgerfuel UAE and more. RIP Mark Bell
Sad news in the dance music world, as LFO co-founder and Bjork collaborator Mark Bell passed away following complications from an operation. He formed experimental electronic outfit LFO in the late 80s, collaborating with Bjork on her 1997 album Homogenic, as well as working on 6 further albums. Signed to Warp, LFO were responsible for some of the label’s biggest hits, including the 1990 crossover hit “LFO,” 1991’s “What Is House (LFO Remix)” and 2003’s “Freak.”

Album Reviews... Andy Buchan – Nine Oh Nine (Infusion Records) Nu-Disco/House / Infusion.ae
After a quiet summer, Infusion Records are back with 3 releases in 6 weeks, and providing the Nu-Disco sandwich between two techno EPs from Matthew Charles is Infusion Records regular Andy Buchan. With 3 EPs already under his belt, he’s returned with 2 bustling but very diverse tracks. Heading them up is the Daniel Avery style acid funk of ‘Nine Oh Nine’, all crisp snares, an escalating top line, warped strings and a cheeky vocal sample. Split into three chunky breakdown segments, each element brings something new to the floor, with spacey synths and pads building the tension. On the flip is ‘LRB,’ which channels the spirit of Donna Summer thanks to its disco bass, shimmering synth intro and punchy drums. Slower at 108BPM, it’s prime-time sunset material and could even be something that might float Todd Terje’s Balearic boat.

Aphex Twin – Syro Electronic I
warp.net/records/releases/aphex-twin/syro
Making complex things seem easy – that’s a pretty good definition of genius. Like blending nose-bleed techno, rave, avante-garde classical, drum and bass, electro-funk and pretty much every other genre into one coherent whole. That takes some skill, and it’s something that Aphex Twin AKA Richard James has spent his adult life perfecting. On his long, long awaited follow up to 2001’s Drukqs, he’s gone one step further and not only taken all those influences but made them work: where previously he stretched the listener to breaking point, Syro will sound accessible to the casual listener. Syro still has plenty of WTF? moments notably on ‘CIRCLONT14 (Shrymoming Mix)’ which sounds like a washing machine set to acid funk while ‘PAPAT4 (Pineal Mix)’ and ‘S950tx16wasr10 (Earth Portal Mix)’ are future-jungle from the planet Zorg. But generally Syro is a gentler ride, a more muted – but still explosive – album. And one that grows and evolves with each listen.

The White Cube Playlist
Our musical friends at White Cube Studios have scoured the web and return with another essential dose of original music from the UAE, all lovingly compiled on their Soundcloud playlist Molham Rebel - Otherside (Rendition) Ft. Azarel & Molham Rebel started writing original music when he was 16 years old and continues to develop his craft. The recent track ‘Otherside’ is a collaborative hit featuring local singer-songwriter Azarel alongside Molham. soundcloud.com/molham_rebel Tiny - Work It Feat. Majeed This multi-talented RnB/Soul artist originates from Bahrain and expresses his creativity through his own lyrics, as well as creating his own melodies for all of his tracks. Straight off his fresh new EP ‘EYE’ released across the UAE this August 2014, ‘Work It’ bring a well-balanced flow delivered alongside Majeed. soundcloud.com/tinymusiq Gaïa L. Carnino - L.U.B Gabrielle is the lead singer of Abu Dhabi based local band SoundBlock, who were featured in the ‘best of the UAE indie
music’ compilation album released through Freshly Ground Sounds. Gabby delivers her energetic charm through her track ‘L.U.B.’ soundcloud.com/gaial Chad Goldswothy - Acoustic Vibrations In his words, Chad is a “musician, vegan and creator of simply felt” music. His track ‘Acoustic Vibrations’ is a syncopating formation of acoustic vibes and virtual mind-flowing experiences. Take a listen and you’ll know what all that means. soundcloud.com/chadgoldsworthy MohFlow - Three6Five Moh Flow started rhymin’ in 2005 after he watched his older brother for many years, getting most of his insight on Rap/ Hip-Hop Music. Since then he’s been mastering his MC skills. ‘Three6Five’ is a track from his latest EP titled “Inspired” released earlier this year. soundcloud.com/mohflowmusic

On The Record
Chunky, underground house label Centric Music is the next DXB label to fall under our spotlight. We caught up with label boss Cory to find out more about their search for quality music‌
Centric Music – Need to know
Running since: 2007 Number of releases: 29 Genres covered: Quality house music, no fillers Main artists: Pryor, Dazzle Drums, Stephen Rigmaiden Website: www.centricmusic.co.uk
The best thing about running your own label is… I get to put out the music I like. The worst thing is… Freeloaders downloading and sharing your music for free. Our biggest seller is… Alf Tumble feat Halina Larsson – Story of a Ghost. We’ve had support from… Kenny Dope, Osunlade, Dixon, Ninetoes, Mr V, Vanilla Ace, Rocco, Moodymanc, Jesus Gonsev, Harri Subclub, Jamie Anderson. What does your label sound like? Quality house music, no fillers. The best online portal for us is… Traxsoure, Beatport and various blogs. How do you make yourself stand out? It’s very difficult as there are so many labels, but we try to get our mailing list of well-known DJs to support our releases, and spread the word. You should keep an eye out for… Bruno Banner’s new EP which comes with an eye catching video due for release in late October, expect remixes from Manchester’s finest Moodymanc. How does a smash hit happen? With so much music coming out I think it’s harder than ever to have a hit, and it all depends what is perceived as a hit. If you’re looking for MTV type fame then I think it’s almost impossible for a
small house label to make the jump from the club to top of the charts. But if number one on Beatport or Traxsource can be classed as a hit then the right promotion and a bit of luck is all you need. How involved are you with UAE producers, how can people get in touch with you? None at this time, but I’m always willing to listen to new music so if you’re a producer based in the UAE hit me up info@ centricmusic.co.uk or via our head of A&R fadel@centricmusic.co.uk.
And, to accompany the series, we’ve compiled our very own mix with one track from each of the labels, available to stream via our Soundcloud page, soundcloud.com/infusion-magazine Infusion Magazine – DXB On The Record Andy Buchan – LRB – Infusion Records Francis Inferno Orchestra – Ellingfort Road – Voyeurhythm Records Pryor – Fela Shuffle – Centric Music The Linguinis – If I Was – Ark To Ashes Arnav S – Subkraft (Sasse Mix) - one28 Recordings Florian Kruse – The Green Wine Experience (Raxon remix) – audio tonic Records Smokingroove – Message To The Playas – Illuminati DJ Sneak – The Party Of All – Gold Drama Records Greg Stainer – Back Home – Stained

DJ Booth: DJ Shenon
We caught up with the newly crowned Pioneer DJ Championship long-mix winner, DJ Shenon
One thing you might not know about me is... I used to DJ at night and sleep in the class room while I was schooling. My worst ever job was… When I was working as a Marketing Executive at a Telecommunication company, I really hated it at the end of the month because of the targets. My favorite ever record is... ‘My Girl’ by The Temptations. When I listen it takes me back to my past. Dubai’s clubbing scene is... Really amazing and it’s growing day by day. I’m really proud of... Where I stand now as a DJ. What track could you drop in every set? Get Lucky (5prite remix) Karen Souza, it gives me more energy to build up the night. My biggest DJ achievement to date is... Becoming the Long Mix Winner at the Pioneer DJ-ME the Middle East’s ultimate digital DJ Championship 2014. What is your guiltiest pleasure? Sleeping a little bit longer... If you could DJ in any decade which would it be... The 90s, that was the time where I started my DJing Life If I could go back-to-back with any other DJ it would be... Roger Sanchez, because I love the way he blends music. I’m not a politician but… We should make this Universe a better place for the next generation! soundcloud.com/deejay-shenon

With just a £15m grant to maintain her palaces, a senior royal aide wrote to the Government in 2004 asking if the Queen would be eligible for a handout from an energy fund designed to help out old people and the infirm. The request happened in 2004, but has only just been revealed under the Freedom of Information Act. Sorry Queenie, you’ll have to stop using £20 notes as fuel to save some money.
WEIRD PICs Renowned photographer Sandro Miller has teamed up with John Malkovich to re-create some iconic portraits, and these are three of our favourite.
Caught in the act
Never underestimate the power of stupid. A burglar in Falkirk was caught red-handed by authorities after he used his victim’s computer mid-burglary to search for second-hand dealers in the Falkirk area to sell his swag to.

Dubai club booking toddlers to stay one step ahead of ‘the game’ In an ever competitive market, it’s harder and harder for clubs to stand out. And with the clued up Dubai club crowd looking to get to the new sensations first, promoters have had to step up their game to compete. One promoter, Hugh Jarse, has started booking underground Berlin toddlers, one of whom has just released his first slice of hardto-find wax. The 12” single entitled ‘Humpty Dumpty (The After Hours Edit)’, comes with its own hand painted artwork of a cat, and consists of a repetitive 4/4 beat and snatches of melody that, brilliantly, sound like a Casio keyboard set to demo parody. It’s had hipsters in Berlin falling over themselves to book the still-in-nappies-youth, but Hugh Jarse has given Lickle Tommy his first international gig. ‘The techno promoters and crowd in Dubai are always looking for the next hit, and I’ve found just that. We’ll have to get a potty in for the gig, but that’s not that uncommon among a lot of the more hardcore caners so we can accommodate it quite easily. Ricardo Villalobos actually wears an adult diaper, so this should be relatively easy.’
Woman at Sandance sues organisers after queues prevented her from drinking her own bodyweight in vodka These stories are not true, this is not a real newspaper. This is * parody/fiction/satire/joke. a The Spin is not intended, in any way whatsoever, to be taken as factual.

What’s the best insult you could give to each other? “Matt, I’ve got David Guetta on the phone, he wants to book you The music is a bit light and and your beard for an after party fluffy, could you make it a little he is having with the Swedish darker… House Mafia as he thinks you guys have the same taste in music, I’ll tell him you’re in.”

WOMBLING AROUND I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been hearing a lot about the underground recently. And I’m not sure if this is some sort of musical paradox, but the more I hear about the underground, the less underground it actually sounds. Promoters and DJs out here also have a nasty habit of equating tech house and techno with underground. Right, so you’re playing the most mainstream house sounds at the moment and you’re proclaiming that to be underground. Gotcha. If a tree falls underground, does it make a crisp hi hat and snare sound? More likely, there won’t be anyone there, as they’ve all gone so far up their arses they’ve gone overground.
