Customers Pay, But Get No Safety For Their Money
C
onsumers pay 75 every two years for mandatory safety checks of their cooking gas connections and are covered by insurance in the event of an accident like a cylinder explosion. Few consumers are aware that they are charged for their safety or the fact that their gas
agencies are obliged to conduct periodic safety checks. Consumer activists say oil companies and LPG distributors have not bothered to make consumers aware of the safety net to which they are entitled. "Distributors make sure they
collect 75 from every customer but don't carry out the checks that they are being paid for," activist T Sadagopan said. "There has been a steady rise in the number of LPG cylinder explosions in the state, but oil companies and distributors fail to ensure that customers use authorised products," he said.

All India Indane Distributors' Association general secretary CG Krishnamoorthy denied the charge. "A majority of customers don't allow sta of distributors to conduct checks," he said. "In Wednesday's accident, there were no leak. It was caused by customer negligence," he said.
Of icials say every customer is insured by the oil company he purchases LPG from and by the distributor. "The maximum claim for an individual in a cylinder blast is 10 lakh," an of icial said. "But customers are eligible only if the accessories used are original."

SMOKING & HOME FIRE SAFETY
The place where we feel safest — at home — is where most smoking-materials structure fires, deaths, and injuries occur. Smoking materials are the leading cause of fire deaths. Smoking material fires are preventable.
Smoking Safety
If you smoke, use only ire-safe cigarettes. If you smoke, smoke outside, Most deaths result from ires that started in living rooms, family rooms and dens or in bedrooms. Keep cigarettes, lighters, matches and other smoking materials up high out of the reach of children, in a locked cabinet.
Put It Out!
Use a deep, sturdy ashtray. Place it away from anything that can burn. Do not discard cigarettes in vegetation such as mulch, potted plants or other things that coild ignite easily. Before you throw away butts and ashes, make sure they are out and dousing in water or sand is the best way to do that.
to smoke where medical oxygen is used. Medical oxygen can cause materials to ignite more easily and make ires burn at a faster rate than normal. It can make an existing ire burn faster and hotter. Be Alert !
To prevent a deadly cigarette ire, you must be alert. You won't be alert if you are sleepy, have taken medicine or drugs that make you drowsy or have consumed alcohol. Never smoke in bed.

A recent survey by the ire department proved that less than a handful of buildings in the city have conducted their structural or ire audit reports and submitted the results to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. According to the rules, every housing society needs to get a ire audit done every six months and check. But convention dictates that only after a society managing committee approaches the audit of icer for a ire audit is one carried out by the ire department. The ire depart has 83 designated of icers who carry out basic ire inspections, which are different from a ire audit. After the inspection is done, a notice is sent to the society of a building and they have to reply within 120 days stating if they
have complied with the rules. What is a ire audit ? The BMC budget may have earmarked a sizeable amount for the ire department, but a lot of it remains unutilized. Last year only Rs 4.20 crore was used of the Rs 160 crore that was allotted to the department. This year the BMC has plans of coming up with eight ire substations but the staff claims the paper work is too stressful with routine ire calls taking up their time. A ire of icial on condition of anonymity, said, “It becomes very dif icult for us to compile all the date about ire audits. We have to compile data of how many buildings have been audited and how many are yet to be audited.” When contacted, AN Verma, Chief Fire Of icer, said, “We do keep a check on the ire equipment in residential buildings as regular ire inspections are carried out, but a ire audit is done when a particular building or a society asks us to conduct one.”

What is CCTV?
C
losed Circuit Television (CCTV) is a network of cameras and monitors that are directly connected on a closed circuit. This means the images picked up by the cameras aren't accessible by anyone who has a receiver, which is the norm with regular television. provided by the cameras.
The size of a CCTV system may depend on how and where it is used, but the basic elements of the system are the same, regardless of its application. A CCTV system has at least one camera, but may include several cameras if needed. It also includes display monitors that pick up the images captured by the cameras. The display monitors have a direct connection to the CCTV network, which is the reason they can pick up the images on the cameras. Display monitors that are not directly connected to the closedcircuit network cannot access the signal or see the images
There are different ways in which a CCTV system can send its images from the cameras to the display monitors. This type of system may use coaxial cables for signal broadcasting, but some systems use other types of technology to accomplish this. For example, a CCTV may also use microwaves or infrared technology to send its broadcasts from its cameras to the display units that are connected to the network. The uses of CCTV are numerous. a store owner, for example, may install this type of system to monitor his store and keep track of each
What Are the Best Tips for DIY CCTV ?
S
etting up a do-ityourself (DIY) closedcircuit television (CCTV) network can be a large undertaking, but there are some ways to make it easier. There are many types of cameras that can be used with a DIY CCTV network, some of which are best for interior and exterior use, and other that make it easier to see a small or wide area. Positioning is important, because DIY CCTV cameras should be hidden, safe from vandalism and unaffected by weather conditions. Two main recording systems can be used, each with its own pros and cons. The network also can be manual or automatic. Choosing the right cameras for a DIY CCTV network is important, because it can determine how the cameras can be used and whether additional light sources are
needed. Some camera types are infrared, which do not need visible light; dome cameras, which easily turn and move; miniature cameras, which are easy to hide; and automated cameras that move back and forth without user interaction. Most cameras also are split into exterior and interior categories, and the user should pick a camera according to where it will be positioned. To set up a DIY CCTV network, the cameras have to be placed somewhere. Most people try to hide the cameras to ensure that people do not know they are being recorded, and they normally are placed in high spots to decrease the chances of vandalism. Aside from this, the cameras should be shielded by walls or other structures to keep them safe from sun and
wind. If the cameras are used inside, then sun and wind protection are not as important, but being inconspicuous still is a priority. Picking the proper recording device can make managing the network much easier. While there are many different DIY CCTV recording devices, they can be split into two groups: computerdependent and independent. The former usually is easier to record with, because there is no need to change disks, drives or tapes as long as the hard drive keeps illing up with video information. If the computer needs more room, then hardware with more memory can be installed. Independent recording device have a lower chance of crashing, and they usually take up less room.
cust omer who enters. With this type of system in place, catching thieves may be easier. A homeowner may also use a closed-circuit system for the purpose of monitoring parts of his home for intruders. Hospitals may also have a use for these systems, as they allow health care professionals to monitor patients visually, without being in the room with them. This sort of system may even be used in the monitoring of intersections in order to capture traf ic violations.

Before someone starts a DIY CCTV network, he should consider whether the network needs to be manual or automatic. When dealing with DIY, many people prefer automatic, which allows the user to record without having to watch the cameras. If this is used for an establishment such as a store or hotel, then a manual network that is constantly watched enables the user to see theft, vandalism, trespassing or other illegal acts as they happen instead of after the fact.

How Do I Choose the Best CCTV Surveillance System?
A
The uses of a CCTV surveillance system can vary widely, such as observing a crowd, monitoring traf ic or gate entrances, deterring trespassers or providing a general property security presence. CCTV technology can meet many custom property needs and can be monitored by the property owner, by a computer or even by a remote monitoring service. Digital technology has extended the abilities of conventional analogue cameras, copper wires and video cassette recorders (VCRs) and brought surveillance technology into the age of the Internet, memory disks and portable computing devices.
Customizing the functionality of a CCTV surveillance system is a matter of understanding technical components, their applications and even their creative integration. Three chief aspects comprise the home or business surveillance system: cameras, networks and recording devices. Analog systems still serve well, but digital systems offer security applications to a very customizable degree. Lighting and position will in luence your camera choice. There are many features and options

home CCTV surveillance system, it's important to examine speci ically the intended uses of the system before you invest in one. Large, visible cameras can dissuade trespassers, and hidden cameras can catch criminals in the act. Fixed cameras monitor predetermined ields of vision, and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras can be motion-controlled 360 degrees from a station or even over the Internet from another country. The purpose of the surveillance will determine choices in format, lens, network, control and recording.
closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system is essentially a network of cameras and video recorders installed on a property to maintain security. With the advent of affordable digital technology, a choice of the best CCTV surveillance system depends on a balance of purpose, desired functionality and price. There are a wide range of choices, and you should take care to analyze your needs carefully.
The next consideration is the frame rate, or frames per second. Thirty frames per second (fps) works is the standard rate. Slower speeds appear as time-lapse snapshots, and faster speeds, such as 120 fps, afford cameras to be networked without a loss in resolution. Networked video recorders (NVRs) are capable of linking cameras over a local area network (LAN) or fast Ethernet link, to be controlled and viewed by remote or recorded onto a single disk. Recorders can operate continuously for months or can be programmed to rewrite existing data for more continual monitoring. They can specify cameras to activate or increase resolution during unusual events. They can also be integrated with alarms or access control systems, in order to monitor secure entranceways. These
systems can respond to motion and even send property owners email alerts and text messages to their mobile devices. Digital CCTV surveillance systems are capable of doing work once performed by humans. These tasks include video analytics, behavioral recognition and image analysis. Video analytics, sometimes called intelligent video, use algorithms to monitor video information for objects, facial or license plate recognition or crowd counts. Behavioral recognition tracks the movements and activities of people or vehicles for unusual activity. Image analysis can take unusable, dark or blurred footage to extract information, even in real time. Finally, in comparison to digital technology, info@vmhwebsolutions.in

conventional analogue security cameras and VCRs remain an affordable option for conventional surveillance duty. Security VCRs start at a price of a few hundred US Dollars. Protecting a home, commercial property or vehicle doesn't have to be a costly proposition with proven, well-accessorized analogue technology. Analyzing your needs and selecting only the features and options that you will use can help you choose the best CCTV surveillance system to provide security for the property you want to protect.

What is a CCTV Security Monitor ? available to consumers. Their prices vary, with the most sophisticated systems being very expensive.
A
CCTV, or closedcircuit television, security monitor utilizes video cameras in the surveillance of a particular area for security or safety purposes. It is especially used to monitor and prevent crimes in establishments such as banks, airports, casinos, and convenience stores. Some homes, universities, and businesses have also installed CCTV security monitor systems to have a continuous record of
the day-to-day activities in their particular surroundings. The CCTV system was irst used in 1942. In 1968, CCTV systems were installed in New York City, particularly along its main business district, as part of the efforts to ight crime in the area. Later on, the use of a CCTV security monitor became prevalent in many city centers, parking lots, train stations, and estates. CCTV systems are also easily
Having a CCTV security monitor can often discourage potential criminals from conducting a crime. This is because they fear that they can be recorded by a CCTV camera that can be used for easy identi ication by the authorities. It can also help in the immediate deployment of police of icers. More advanced CCTV security monitor systems can even help determine the number of of icers required to respond to a crime scene, as well as
identify the number of offenders present at the scene. Through the use of CCTV security monitor systems, traf ic monitoring has also been made easier. It allows monitoring of traf ic congestion in certain streets as well as incidence of accidents, and may even help in reporting stolen cars. Amusement parks and train stations also utilize the CCTV systems to ensure the safety of people who use their facilities. For example, amusement park operators often watch through their CCTV security monitors to make sure that no one is going to be harmed when rides starts.
Certain improvements are being implemented to further make the use of CCTV security monitor and cameras more effective. One is by providing more lighting, especially in public areas, to allow the camera to capture the images of people more accurately, and for authorities to easily identify the offenders. Likewise, CCTV operators are being trained to quickly deploy police of icers to rush to a crime scene. Regular evaluation of video surveillance is also being implemented to ensure that the system will provide adequate and timely data for crime prevention.
