Will, MHPE, PA-C At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to: • Identify patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) who require hospitalization according to the Pneumonia Severity Index vs. CURB-65 • Prescribe appropriate empiric intravenous antibiotics for patients with CAP according to current guidelines • Describe the current evidence-based guidelines which outline dismissal criteria for patients admitted with CAP • Differentiate between healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP), ventilatorassociated pneumonia (VAP) and hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) • Implement a treatment plan for HCAP, VAP and HAP • Identify the appropriate screening and treatment for patients with fungal or viral pneumonias • Evaluate and manage a patient with aspiration pneumonia
