Brian Palmieri is a painter and print-maker who has lived in Philadelphia since graduation from Tyler School of Art with a BFA in printmaking. He also received a BA in Visual and Verbal Arts from Keuka College and Post-Baccalaureate certificate from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He is a member of Second State Press, Davinci Art Alliance and CFEVA. When he’s not caring for his son or painting, he’s printing t-shirts for the small printing company he owns. Brian says, “My recent works are a break from the painterly images I have made in the past few years. In a search for something more deliberate I changed my working method and style. Using crosshatching, a technique usually reserved for rendering form and depth I have flattened the image to show space in a more topographical experience. The hatch marks are made on a matte gradiated background which focuses the viewer on the duality of surface and color. These works are a meditation on labor and time: of coming together and the borders that separate us. The marks are not only creating an aesthetic pattern they are literally the marking of time, and the work that has gone into the piece.”
