InLiquid makes the contemporary visual arts culture of the Philadelphia region more accessible, working to support artists, and nurture the public’s appreciation of the visual arts. Through exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, gallery tours, and public activations, InLiquid has been an anchor for Philadelphia’s creative economy since 1999.

2023 IMPACT REPORT

InLiquid was one of those places that when I moved to Philadelphia, everyone pointed me to get involved with. Since the almost 20 years that I have been an artist living and working in Philly, InLiquid has always kept me informed on current projects, and offered me opportunities that as an emerging artist, I am grateful for their service.

Dear Friends,

Since our founding in 1999, InLiquid has been at the forefront of mobilizing and making accessible the greater Philadelphia region’s visual arts culture. For 25 years, we have provided a better support system for local artists and nurtured the public’s appreciation of visual art. What began as an online exhibition venue, meeting place, and information resource for artists, quickly expanded into a community of artist members, increased site content, and a regular series of public programs and exhibitions at locations throughout the region.

Today, InLiquid’s website is a free educational resource and conduit for interaction between artists, curators, patrons, and the public. It is the most comprehensive source for regional visual arts information and activities.

As you will see in our latest Impact Report, we continued our efforts to become increasingly accessible to a broader and more diverse population of art lovers and community members.

Through a series of 27 exhibitions and 68 public events, we activated our gallery space and 7 satellite galleries with workshops, artist talks, and exhibition receptions. We served hundreds of local artists, providing opportunities for professional development, career advancement, and exposure. In addition, we further developed our art advisory services, placing artwork by Philadelphia artists in corporate collections and residential spaces throughout the region.

This year, I, along with InLiquid’s staff and board of directors, am thrilled to celebrate our 25th anniversary of supporting Philadelphia’s visual arts community. Our vision to create and foster a community focused on the visual arts has never been clearer, and our efforts would not have been possible without you and your commitment to art and artists. When you support InLiquid, you support accessible arts programming in your community and strengthen the infrastructure of Philadelphia’s creative economy. Thank you!

Best Regards,

InLiquid is not just an organization; it’s a vibrant community that fosters creativity and connection. Through InLiquid’s innovative programs and exhibitions, I have been inspired to become an active art collector, nurturing my passion for the artists I admire. Collecting art has become a deeply personal endeavor for me, allowing me to celebrate the talent of emerging artists while supporting their journeys. I am proud to be an ongoing supporter of InLiquid, and I look forward to witnessing how it continues to inspire and uplift the Philadelphia art scene for years to come.

Diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion are more than goals to be reached; they are a continual process and practice. As creative people, we strive to embody this progress, driving towards a more just future by building equity in the present.

The essential nature of art exists in the communion between the artist and the audience. Together, through art, we assess, value, and reassess our culture and teach one another about the multiplicity of our experiences and perspectives of what it is to be human. InLiquid recognizes for creativity to exist, both artists and audiences must first feel valued. When artists reflect the diversity of our city, exhibitions are created that inspire and move all of us toward a culture of understanding.

InLiquid actively creates paths for the inclusion of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, as well as artists of all ages and abilities, in our work. Ongoing initiatives such as the Wind Artist Fellowships for emerging female artists and our Art Advisory Committee, which is comprised of 15 art professionals from diverse lived experiences and backgrounds, help us to serve the Philadelphia community in an even more equitable way.

Together, we have built a more comprehensive range of inclusivity in our membership and programming. In 2023, InLiquid connected with the communities in our neighborhood through initiatives such as The Welcome Project, outreach and programming developed with the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society and the larger Arab and Muslim communities in South Kensington, and providing exhibition materials in Spanish. InLiquid’s refreshed website includes many accessibility accommodations, including translation into 58 languages and dialects and support for a range of adjustments for visually impaired audiences.

As Audre Lorde wrote, “Revolution is not a one-time event. It is becoming always vigilant for the smallest opportunity to make a genuine change in established, outgrown responses.” Diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion are goals that we must strive for actively and persistently.

The Artist Membership is at the heart of InLiquid’s mission. For decades, we have been at the forefront of artist engagement and act as a direct connection between artists, curators, patrons, and the public at large. InLiquid continues to create global access for our Artist Members by curating personalized portfolio pages on our website and by bringing a wide array of exhibitions to life in both digital and physical spaces. Whether an artist is emerging, rising, or established in their career, InLiquid works closely with them to promote their creative journey through our online portfolio, listings and announcements, social media network, and exhibition opportunities.

I joined InLiquid as a member last year because of the opportunities available for artists. Since then my artwork has been in several exhibitions increasing my exposure while building my exhibition record. Several of my artworks were sold through the InLiquid exhibitions and Artsy. The staff is amazing, supportive, and informative and I have also connected with new artists in the Philly community. The past year has been very beneficial to my life as a living artist. Joining InLiquid membership enables artists to thrive.

When I started my business in 2009 I had no idea where to begin to showcase and sell my work. Rachel was kind enough to meet me at a coffee shop, review my craft and offered me a space for their upcoming Art For The Cash Poor event. I’ve enrolled every year since, have participated on the planning committee and have donated artwork to their annual silent auction Benefit Party. I now have my own brick-and-mortar store thanks to the opportunities InLiquid has given me throughout the years.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with InLiquid to source local artwork for our amenity spaces and on artist-led workshops for residents here at Ray Philly. Working with them has moved us towards our goal of being a cultural hub for the community here in South Kensington. Their reach and commitment to Philly artists is unparalleled!

Special Programming:

SORA West Art Fair

InLiquid and Paula Glazer presented the inaugural SORA West Art Fair, an invitational art fair activating the heart of Conshohocken at Hotel West & Main. This event brought together a curated selection of 27 artisans selling original artwork, crafts, clothing, accessories, and functional objects.

40PNPB series

From March 2023 through January 2024, our 40th Parallel North Preservation Brigade (40PNPB) initiative focused on utilizing art as a tool to help our neighbors in the River Wards community to strengthen personal and collective resilience in the face of anxiety, fear, and dread surrounding climate change and our future. Programming included workshops, communal conversations, film screenings, and time to contemplate art in our gallery.
