Core Connections features the thought-provoking works of Andrea Keefe and Orlando Saverino-Loeb. Keefe delves into the intricate relationship between our sensory observations and the narratives we construct to define our identities and beliefs. Her knotted forms symbolize the complex interplay between our thoughts and past experiences, exploring how our subjective histories shape our perspectives. Saverino-Loeb’s works celebrate community, individuality, and the emotional energies that drive us forward. His compositions reflect the collective experiences and reactions that mold our identities, creating deconstructed figures that transcend distinctions of race, gender, and social standing. Together, Keefe and Saverino-Loeb’s works invite viewers to reflect on the profound interconnectedness of human experiences and the rich diversity that arises from our unique yet shared journeys.
Andrea Wohl Keefe was born and raised in Bridgewater, NJ. She received a BFA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, and an MFA from Miami University in Oxford, OH. She currently lives in Philadelphia, PA, where she teaches art at Central High School and works in her studio as much as possible.

Andrea Wohl Keefe
“My work is motivated by my interest in psychology. In particular, I am interested in how we bring together the information our sensory observations provide into narratives that we use to define who we are and what we come to believe about the world we live in. The knotted forms in my art represent the ways our thinking becomes connected to our past experiences - the way we develop our perspective and subjective history. As for the corporeal elements seen in my work, they can be animated or paralyzed by our thoughts, and adversely they can be manipulated by our actions. It is about taking control and giving up control. Generally, what interests me is how this entirely subjective experience is what we share with others, and it is also what makes us uniquely different from one another. When another person truly “gets you”, it’s like they’ve crossed this great chasm and reinforced what it means to be human.”

Orlando Saverino-Loeb is a Philadelphia born artist. His work is influenced by surrealist imagery, the compositions in 19th century Romanticism paintings, and extended stays in Italy. He deconstructs the environments he’s experienced, and rebuilds them as reflections on humans and their activities. He uses characters, symbols, and visual metaphors to create a sense of familiarity that facilitates the creation of unique new ideas and insights in the mind of his viewer. His work has been shown at the Stella Elkins Tyler Gallery, the InLiquid Gallery, Fleisher Art Memorial and the DaVinci Art Alliance among others. He He is currently the Technical Director at HOT•BED, an art gallery in Philadelphia. In 2018 he was selected to participate in the BecomeBecome residency in Sardinia, Italy, during which he presented in their first symposium talk at the Stazione Dell’Arte - Museo d’arte contemporanea in Ulassai. He has continued to show work as a member of DaVinci Art Alliance, and during 2020 he had six paintings in an international show in Paris with the DF Art Project, as well as showing work with Air Mattress Gallery, NYC virtually.

“Children of the Same Sun” is a series developed as a celebration of togetherness, comfort, and community. They are compositions built upon the individuality and humanness existing in the energetic burst of emotions we all carry within ourselves that spur us forward. Each of us is a culmination of our experiences and how we have reacted to them. We all travel through the world this way and those experiences we have do change us and form us into the beings that we are. Here I have been exploring the idea of individuality through the exploration of form. I work to find the emotive qualities in the forms that turn them into characters. These figures are the culmination of a collection of marks, the way we are a culmination of a collection of experiences. They are deconstructed figures that are relatable, without a distinction of race, gender, or social standing. Lately, in the wake of all that has been happening painting these figures has been a meditation on community, what it means to be an individual, what it means to be a partner, and that it is our individuality that creates such a unique and diverse world.
