Premier lauds residents for peaceful poll ‘Residents demonstrated true patriotism towards their province and the country in general’ Staff Reporter news@inner-city-gazette.co.za
G Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane
auteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has praised Gauteng residents for coming out in their numbers to vote in the national and provincial elections that were held on Wednesday 27 April all around the province.
“The high voter turnout in our province is a victory for democracy. Our people have shown us once again that they have trust in the democratic processes of the country,” said Mokonyane. According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) records, a record 25.39 million voters were registered to vote in this
year’s general elections. The Premier commended residents for peaceful and eventless elections. She said the residents demonstrated true patriotism towards their province and the country in general. Mokonyane further noted that the right to vote was hard won and she was pleased that people voted so
that they can hold the government accountable and defend the country’s democracy. “It is also heart-warming to see that even in areas that were branded as voting hotspots by the media, such as Bekkersdal, we witnessed a high turnout of voters and voting was without any incidents,” said Gauteng Premier Mokonyane.
