What’s assessed? Topics 1–5: Atomic structure and the periodic table; Bonding, structure, and the properties of matter; Quantitative chemistry, Chemical changes; and Energy changes (these topics correspond to Kerboodle chapters C1 through to C7).
How it’s assessed
Triple Combined Written exam: I hour 45 min 1 hour 15 min Marks: 100 marks 70 marks % of GCSE 50% 16.7%
Questions: multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response.

3. Quantitative chemistry
a. Chemical measurements, conservation of mass and the quantitative interpretation of chemical equations b. Use of amount of substance in relation to masses of pure substances c. Yield and atom economy of chemical reactions (triple only) d. Using concentrations of solutions in mol/dm3 e. Use of amount of substance in relation to volumes of gases
4. Chemical changes
a. Reactivity of metals b. Reactions of acids c. Electrolysis
5. Energy changes
a. Exothermic and endothermic reactions b. Chemical cells and fuel cells (triple only)
