SUNNY Sundays

Owning a business can be tough but Carlie Wacker meets an inspirational business owner who always brings the sunshine to brighten up our lives!

How and when was your business born?

I purchased the business just over three-and-a-half years ago. A few years earlier it started in a different location and was a much different store back then. However, our philosophy remains the same: at Bohemian Sundays we aim to enable women to express their true selves. We hope to empower, excite and liberate every woman through colour, print and originality.

My superstar employee Denise joined me just over a year ago and I truly don’t know what I’d do without her!

What do you love most about your business?

That it’s mine haha! I’m pretty proud of how Bohemian Sundays has grown and evolved over the time that I’ve owned it.

Retail has had a pretty crazy time over the last few years. It’s certainly been a wild ride and I feel blessed that I’ve survived and gained so many supportive customers and friends.

How would you describe your store style and aesthetic?

The store is very feminine with so many beautiful products to look at.

We sure do fit a lot into a small space! Denise and I have created a unique vibe and customers often say ‘they wish they could just hang out all day!’

What can we find IN store?

There is so much talent here on the coast and we are so proud to showcase them to our customers. Along with our clothing from Australian brands such as Kivari; Arnhem; Rowie; and Araminta James, we also carry beautiful local products.

Our Leather and crystal collection from

Nautical Desire make such unique gifts while our prints from Let Me Sea – Surf Photography will complement any luxe seaside home.

The sassy girls from Skinned Body oils have got your sun drenched skin covered with nourishing oils; and customers immediately smell the delicious aroma from our scented shell candles from Hunter Gatherer Noosa. These make an attractive table centrepiece or special souvenir.

What inspires your stock purchases?

Bohemian Sundays is situated right near the beach; therefore, the store embraces the idealistic beach lifestyle. I believe our products and clothing choices reflect that. We strive to provide laid-back and comfortable clothing and most importantly, here on the Sunshine Coast, our clothing must be versatile.

Garments need to be able to be worn casually or dressed up for a night out or a special occasion.

What do you love most about working IN Peregian?

100% the lifestyle! I love that I can have an ocean dip before or after work.

Everyone is laidback and friendly as they are either on holidays or don’t have the stress others have in busy cities.

What advice can you share with fashion start-ups and retailers?

Business is hard, especially when just starting out. Have the belief that the universe has your back and you deserve success purely because you are willing to put the hard work in and have the passion and drive to make it work.

Then just do it! Take the leap and don’t be afraid to ask for help and advice along the way.

What can we expect to see this season?

Australian brands are in high demand now, especially since Covid. Lilac and green are standout colours; sets are a must-have; and who doesn’t love a tropical print?

You can feel like you are on holidays everyday!

What item can you NOT live without?

My Will and Bear hat is on high rotation! It finishes off any outfit I wear instore and I even wear it on days off.
