Natura Natura evokes the textures of the natural world. Using familiar biomorphic forms — reptile skin, tree bark, an insect wing — and fresh techniques, Innovations’ SU22 collection of wallcoverings touches on nature in a new way. For Natura, Innovations explored nature through color, drawing and touch, especially touch, and experimented with a variety of embossing techniques. Notably, the novel process developed for Soutache brings flowing lines into relief by pressing a textile over yarn. Other tactile surfaces in the collection — like the dynamic folds of Pleated Suede, subtle imprint of reptilian pattern Crok, and jacquard textile Bordado — use traditional processes with unique materials to create dimension. Nature’s microstructures are captured in visual textures like Type II vinyl Miza and cork Birchbark, both tree bark-like patterns achieved through printing. The intricate, iridescent “wings” of vinyl wallcovering Alis and the tiny fern-like pattern of Chevron Cork draw from observation of nature in its most minute detail. Reflecting nature’s color palette, the collection highlights this season’s serene grey-green alongside complementary desert tones and warm sky blues. The color direction is most apparent in the expansive palettes of elevated Type II vinyl Intersection and Innovations’ popular vinyl grasscloth Arpora, relaunched for SU22. Comprised of 10 wallcoverings, the Natura Collection connects the natural environment with interiors in a rich textural landscape.

Crok
In a subtle, elegant take on crocodile, Crok’s deeply embossed pattern is camouflaged by a lustrous, two-tone textile. Made by adhering durable polyester yarns vertically to a non-woven backing, then embossing the surface with a heavy roller (the type typically used to imprint thick, supple leather), Crok offers the warmth, refinement and depth of a textile wallcovering with a surprising bite. The timeless reptilian pattern is available in seven metallic colorways, including darkly seductive red Morelet and Black Caiman.

Inspired by natural textures, Birchbark transforms Innovations’ classic cork wallcovering through printing. Thin slices of cork bark (a sustainably produced, renewable material) are first laminated to a metallic foil, then over-dyed and printed in three layers of color. The effect is a new allover bark-like texture reminiscent of a dry-brushed abstract painting. Glimmers of metallic foil peek through natural pockets in the cork of Birchbark, giving the eight colorways of the inspired material a glamorous touch.

Soutache
An experimental embossing technique brings the flowing contours of Soutache into subtle relief. Inspired by the depths achieved layering paper with papier-mâché, the lines of the pattern are crafted by laying thick cellulose yarns on a non-woven backing, then pressing a viscose textile over them for a polished look.
