SPORTS AND VENUES
VENUES Innsbruck, Seefeld and Tyrol are perfectly prepared to host this unique sports festival. Winter sports have always formed an integral part of the Tyrolean lifestyle. The towering snowcapped peaks of the Nordkette mountains high above Innsbruck provide a constant reminder that cities and nature can co-exist in harmony. The interplay between the large variety of sporting opportunities on the one hand and vibrant city life on the other make Innsbruck one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the world. All venues – except Kitzbühel – are within a 27 km radius of Innsbruck. All of them are in excellent condition and will provide the ideal setting for top-class performances and competitions. The venues used for the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics have undergone major modernisation and today continue to host international events on a regular basis. Olympiaworld Innsbruck is an historic location that has welcomed the Ice Hockey World Championships and the European Handball Championships as well as many international acts. During the WWMG 2020, Olympiaworld Innsbruck will serve as the main sport and organisation centre as well as venue for most of the ice-based sports. At Patscherkofel, just a 15-minute drive from the city centre, the alpine competitions will take place. In 2017 this three-time Olympic venue was extensively modernised, including the construction of a new cable car and additional snowmaking facilities. The Seefeld Olympic Region, known as one of the best cross-country skiing destinations in the world, also received major upgrades ahead of hosting the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Further competitions will be held in Kitzbühel, Telfs and St. Sigmund/Praxmar.

THINK GREEN! The breathtaking nature and landscapes of Tyrol offer a huge range of sports and leisure activities. In order to ensure this for future generations, we have to protect and preserve the delicate ecosystem and precious natural landscapes. Please help us do so!
THE WWMG 2020 GOES GREEN! Ecological, economic and social sustainability are of great importance to the organising committee. With every decision that we take, we try to contribute to climate and environmental protection, resource conservation, as well as to social equality. Only already existing, modern sports facilities and infrastructure in Innsbruck and Tyrol will be used. All sports venues – except Kitzbühel – are located no more than 27 km from Innsbruck and can be easily reached by public transport. We pay attention to a careful handling of water and remind our guests that the tap water in Tyrol is of outstanding quality. Please help yourself and refill! By using only reusable dishes, we will be able to avoid tons of unnecessary waste. Other waste will be properly separated and disposed of. Please bring your own beverages in refillable bottles or thermos flasks. Our advertising material will be printed in small quantities using recycled or FSC-certified paper. We try to avoid printing wherever possible. All documents will be available to download from our website. Go and look it up! When it comes to services and products, we focus on cooperating with local partners. We aim to support future generations in their development – not just when it comes to sports but in general. That is why we work closely with local schools. Volunteering at the WWMG 2020 brings together people of all sexes, ages, ethnicities, religions and nationalities. This contributes to building social capital for the region. In all these points, we focus on the well-being of society with the aim of preserving and promoting social cohesion in Innsbruck and Tyrol in many years to come.
