TRENDS by Angela Stone
Denim & Diamonds Giveaway Read on to find out more
Think easy, accessible and practical when you are making your top picks this season. To help those in winter fashion strife, I have compiled an exclusive list of trends fit for any wardrobe. Here are four stars for winter outfit inspiration, from statement coats to knee high boots and turtleneck sweaters. Winter White Sweater White sweaters are all the rage this season because of its versatility and feminine look. Suitable for almost any ensemble, pair your white sweater with skinny blue jeans and boots or sneakers. Up-style the look with a multi coloured clutch or statement watch for a pop of colour. Knee High Boots I can’t say it enough- I am head over heels for knee high boots! This gem will be your staple accessory this winter. Opt for a black comfy-chic flat that is stylish and most importantly comfortable for everyday use. Forget a high heel because flat knee high boots can edge up an outfit of a simple top and jeans or help add definition to a pencil-skirt ensemble for the office. A guarantee go-to all season. Chunky Turtleneck Sweater This classic is back in full swing. The chunky

turtleneck look will keep you warm during the cold months. I recommend opting for a black turtle neck, keep the fitting loose but not baggy and pair it with skinnies or a skirt with ankle boots. Skinny jeans not your thing? Go for a thigh length sweater and pair it with legging and boots. Knee Length Coat The knee length coat is the perfect addition to your winter wardrobe. Deemed the LBD of the season, a knee length coat adds a chic and classic finish to even the simplest of outfits. The most versatile colours to opt for are black or brown for everyday wear. If you are looking for a more statement coat, I recommend going for bright red or blue. There you have it, four great trends to keep you warm and chic this winter. Remember this season it’s all about keeping it practical and simple. Good luck!

HANNAHS We are thrilled to announce that Hannahs have exclusively secured the Keds range from the USA. Keds the iconic American sneaker brand established in 1916 but becoming popular after the second world war, the simple and chic design ignited a style revolution, capturing the hearts of girls everywhere from fashion icons to the girl next door. They became known as sneakers as the rubber sole meant the wearer could sneak around silently! In the Fifties Keds were associated with the classic iconic style of Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn, Marilyn Munroe and Jackie O and now they have teamed up with current style icons, Kate Spade & Taylor Swift. Keds have always chosen strong female role models as they are all about empowering young women and to this end they are running a ‘So Brave’ campaign around the concept that true bravery comes from within and that everyone has unique qualities to celebrate, their campaign is anchored around the idea of ‘own it” encouraging girls to live with pride and confidence. They believe in empowering young women to live a brave life by

being true to themselves and following their dreams. Hence Taylor Swift is a great brand ambassador for Keds, as she is the epitome of a young woman prepared to live her dream and believe in herself, she sums this up perfectly in her quote: “Maybe you’re not meant to fit in, maybe you’re supposed to stand out”. She encourages girls to experiment with their own style and sees shoes as a great opportunity to add a pop of colour or something unexpected. Keds certainly offer the chance for that pop of colour, from the bright red, navy, black and grey single colours at the very affordable price of $69.95 through to the range of animal prints and white stacked-soled for $99.95. Taylor Swift for Keds range is full of cute prints such as berries, hearts, florals cherry blossoms or anchors all complete with her signature on the inside of the shoe at only $79.95. Check out the full range currently in stores or online at the Hannahs website.

All about
DENIM by Angela Stone
For many stylists and designers winter is a season where fashion takes a more practical seat; we know the looks for winter need to be very wearable pieces. The good news this season is that fashion has ripped up the denim rulebook, incorporating fresh and lavish new details to classic denim looks. The blues are on winning form in the midst of an incredibly fun and adventurous fashion moment, when anything from baggy to white-wash, or high-rise —goes. For every winter mood there is a jean and a style. Here are a few denim tips to keep you fashionably warm this winter. Moto Jeans Slowly making its way into the mainstream silhouette is this sassy and sporty number that will have you begging for more. Moto jeans are like a combination of cross-stich and biker chic. The idea is a take on two toned hues and ribbed knit patches. This is a slick pair of jeans with an edgy twist. The Moto jean look is on the cutting edge of fashion and for those of you wanting to add more daring bits of denim to your wardrobe. Coated Jeans Coated jeans give you a leather look without the commitment and overheating! This one is for those of you looking to stay ahead of the denim fashion trends. Coated jeans can be paired with any garment for a sleek and leather metallic finish. This is my denim go to on a Saturday night out! Coated jeans are best suited with a casual top and a pair of wedges or flats.
Stone Wash Denim This 80’s classic is back and in full swing. Popularised by the punk rock crowd from way back when, the stone wash jean marks the return of American Western clothing on major fashion runways. This particular look sets a daring tone to your ensemble and is best paired with a neutral coloured top to soften the look. White Denim White is slowly seeping into the fashion pages with some fashion gurus deeming it “the new black”. For those of you who want to switch in your white shirts for a more casual chic look, this is the trend for you. The best look for white denim is slightly distressed baggy boyfriend jeans. Perfect for any winter ensemble! Style it up with a knitted sweater in neutral tones and a cosy hat for a classy and chic touch. High Rise Skinny
Just Jeans: Coated Moto Jean $89.99, Scoop Neck Stripe Tee $19.99
Make the most of your waistline with high rise jeans. The “rise,” meets skinny with this newly updated classic look. A great colour for this trend is light grey for added definition around the hip and thigh area. Finish the look with a black heel and bright coloured top for a pop of colour. These five trends give you a variety of denim looks to choose from. Moto and coated, a resurgence of stone wash, to newly defined styles, the colder months have never looked more fashionably fun!

Looks for all seasons
Sometimes chunky and shiny just isn’t enough. Today, jewellery styles are making more of a statement with a blend of colours and materials, taking all shapes and forms. While jewellery trends are ever changing, some of us want pieces that will take us through the year. If you are a cost savvy, fashion follower, these trends are for you!
the Marni and Louis Vuitton runways.
A current stand-out trend is the “askew” earring look. From the runways of Oscar De La Renta to Hermes, askew earrings are abuzz and taking over the jewellery scene. It is the beauty of irregularity that captures the eye, from variations in colours to shape.
For those who want to go an extra mile without breaking the bank, try temporary stick on tattoos. Popularized by Beyoncé, this major trend is taking over the fashion world. The temporary metallic tattoo is an affordable option for those looking to style up your skin without the commitment.
If more subtle looks suit your style, knuckle rings are the way to go. The idea is to decorate your fingers with both knuckle and more classic rings for a stylish touch. Pair up gold tinted knuckle rings with darker nail colours to further accentuate your jewellery.
Bold necklaces take centre stage this year, spotted across all major runways. The best part is that it is perfect for any season! Fashion gurus are pairing up ensembles with golden hues of statement necklaces for a stylish and fashion forward finish. Some even take bold to another level by pairing chunky earrings with chunky necklaces as seen on
There you have it, looks fit for any season. Follow these trends and you will become a top jewellery player in no time. A great tip is to personalise your jewellery collection and layer pieces to suit your fashion needs. Good luck!

Paula Hawkins PAP0209 The Book Chick Gondola Topper 300x150.indd 1
“Rachel is an alcoholic, divorced and living with a friend who has, grudgingly, given her a room. Every day she commutes from the flat to her work by train and she makes up stories about the lives of the people she glimpses from the window. In particular, she is fascinated by a beautiful couple who have a house just down the road from where her husband lives with his new wife, Anna, and their baby. Focussing on Jason and Jess, as she calls them, helps take her mind off the pain of seeing her ex’s new life. One day, Rachel sees ‘Jess’ being embraced by a man who is not her husband and then shortly afterwards, Jess goes missing. Rachel finds out Jess’s real name is Megan and she thinks she should reveal what she has seen. Megan, it turns out, is not all she appears to be either, and Paula Hawkins slowly builds the tension in the novel by alternating between the stories of Rachel, Megan and Anna, the new wife. None of these women is particularly likeable and that makes the story all the more real. It’s an absolute page turner and should keep you guessing till the end.”

MCDONALDS HOME AFFORDABILITY, IS THERE A LISTING SHORTAGE AND ARE SELLING PRICES STILL CLIMBING? Home affordability This is critical to someone purchasing their first home, but once they have purchased this is the last time they ever have a genuine interest in home affordability. With changes to the Welcome Home Loan scheme on 1 April 2015 we will see the potential borrowing power of first home buyers increasing to $450,000 (up from $400,000 currently). I believe that we will see a spike in sales for properties under $450,000 in and around Christchurch. The amazing part is with interest rates being so low the cost of renting is almost the same as the cost of owing your own home. Is there a listing shortage? Supply and demand will always be a defining factor to market values and the number one reason why people won’t list their property is normally because they have nowhere to go. Listing numbers in the first quarter of 2015 have been strong, with more properties coming onto the market which has assisted in easing the minds of
home owners wanting to sell and also purchase in the same market. Are selling prices still climbing? Selling prices are on the rise still in Christchurch but the pace of price increases has slowed somewhat. The median price Christchurch wide increased by 1.1% to $425,000 as at Feb 2015. Volume of sales rose 72% from January 2015 to February 2015 with average days on the market continuing to fall in February 2015 down to 36 days on the market. With the added listings and properties coming to the market we are seeing a very stable property market starting to be created.
