Luxury Assisted Living… In Anthem! Keeping the Family Together
Until the opening of Anthem Senior Retreat, Cheryl Ables routinely helped families find other homes for their loved ones. “It’s always difficult to have to send families to homes that are far away,” said Ables. “Although they are good homes,
the preference in this multigenerational community is to have mom or dad nearby.” she said. “This means minimal disruption to the family and better quality of life,” said co-owner Sam Ile.

Pat’s story:
“Mom adores Her New Home”
E
die had lived with her daughter Pat and son-in-law Dan for seven years—and Pat was dreading the day Edie would have to move out. she and Dan expected resistance and possibly an extended adjustment period. But, when Pat met owner Cheryl ables, her anxiety eased. “It was obvious by your interaction with the residents that you cared about your clients, and they had a wonderful relationship with you and the caregivers,” Pat wrote Cheryl in a thankyou note. “The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson as beautifully appointed as anthem senior Living and anthem senior retreat are, Pat discovered the real “ornaments” were the smiles of the residents. “Knowing you have musical activities, therapy dogs, physical therapy, games, massages, hair care… conducted by outside people on a regular basis, adds to the ornamentation of the Pat’s mom, house,” Pat said. “the real Edie. ‘ornaments’ are the residents’ smiling faces and contented nature, and the staff who are outgoing, energetic and sensitive to the needs of the residents.” “I Couldn’t Be Happier For Mom” “It is true, there is no place like home, but when, and if, I cannot function in my home, I want to be a resident at asL or asr…” Pat said. “My mom has made so many comments about the delicious meals

UNPUBLISHED [Next page] Full page ad in Q&A style. Q&A can be a very effective technique for us as it accomplishes several objectives: 1. It provides specific answers to the many valid (and possibly yet-unasked questions) from the family member. As choosing an assisted living facility is a decision few have experience with, the mystery surrounding the life phase is huge. 2. It comforts the decision maker as it informs them mom or dad’s ordeal is not specific to them. As Cheryl notes, similar scenarios plays out in all families, yet each feels like they are unique. 3. It positions Anthem Senior as the expert in elder care, encouraging decision makers to reach out to get questions answered. This type of ad could be used exclusively with Elder Mom. Many decision makers have not made the decision to choose assisted living. Elder Mom is the perfect next step for confused family members. The information on the website, coupled with Cheryl’s excellent “bedside” manner on the phone is step 2 in the process. The rest is dominoes. It is recommended that this ad remove ASR and ASL references. Also, the photo should be of Cheryl only as the nurturing advisor.
Assisted Living:
Q:
is it time?
My mom is 89 years old and living on her own. i keep thinking it might be time for her to move out of her own home, but she keeps telling me she’s fine. How do you know when it is time? And, if it is better for her to live in assisted living?
A:
this is a question i answer every day, and a surprisingly easy one! the AdLs (or “activities of daily living”) required to live safely are very simple: • Medication Management • showering/toileting • dressing • Preparing Meals • eating As long as mom is able to do all of the above with ease and without issue, she is most probably a-ok to live alone. in the event you notice mom has forgotten to take her meds, (or doubled-up on her meds), or perhaps her memory is not like it used to be, you might have concern to worry. With age comes memory loss, lack of balance/risk of falling, and also depression.
Other things to look for: • is mail being opened in a timely manner and are bills being paid? • Are any medications unaccounted for? • Are there leftovers in the refrigerator? if not, what is she eating? • is laundry overdue? Often seniors forget how to do housekeeping and wear the same clothes over and over. • is hygiene becoming an issue? • When calling mom on the phone, do you notice her memory slipping? if mom lives in a neighborhood, seek feedback from the neighbors. Mom or dad might be good at fooling you, but not as good at fooling the neighbors. Most importantly, listen to your gut. that nagging sense of worry means it’s time to be proactive vs. reactive.
