We are Local
Dog-friendly hotels — not so much. I knew it was only a matter of time before our aging air conditioning units called it quits. With rather large dogs, I also knew a hotel was not an option if our units died in the middle of the peak season. My wife and I decided to look into replacement before the inevitable occurred. We had five quotes from both local and larger valley contractors. Travis with ProSkill impressed us with his promptness, knowledge, and thoroughness. Travis was the only contractor to do a calculation on our house, then come back and present a proposal in person. I knew I had my guy! Their pricing was beyond fair for top quality units, especially when considering all the extra work they did beyond just “changing out the boxes”, as Travis says. The final install was a work of art, and the team cleaned up with care. I will gladly continue to refer Travis and the ProSkill team to all my neighbors and friends. - Charles H., Magic and Zoe, Anthem Resident
We live in Anthem. And every representative of ProSkill lives in Anthem, Tramonto or Desert Hills.
We Advertise Our Prices Rather than “matching” the other guys, we believe in offering the best rates from the beginning. ProSkill has the prices the other guys have to try to match.

Lucky’s New Doctor Genuinely Cares had to write this letter in praise of IMountain local vet Kirstin Young of Daisy Animal Hospital. My husband and I recently went away for a few days and had to board our rescue Chihuahua at the local pet hotel. They were rightly concerned and called us to let us know she basically had stress colitis. I called [Daisy Mountain Veterinary Hospital] and [Dr. Young] took time out of her day to go down and check out Lucky personally. She brought meds for her and checked up on how she was doing until we returned two-and-ahalf days later. My husband and I have had wonderful vets in California, but Dr. Young makes them look paltry in comparison.
I’ve never heard of a vet making a house call—we love her even more for her care and obvious concern. We always recommended her to our neighbors before, but we had to let all the Anthem area know of our recent and wonderful experience.

What You Didn’t Know About the Civic Building By Sydney Marsing smarsing@anthemnews.com
T
he Anthem Civic Building houses more than just ACC offices and an MCSO substation. The building is poised to serve as a meeting place for Anthemites; a common space where you can seek quiet refuge, meet with your client, or catch up with friends and coworkers. Here’s how residents can take advantage of the ACC purchase as well: GOODIES Free wi-fi, free coffee in the lounge, a terrace, public computers, a book exchange, board games and card games make this a pretty cool hangout. There’s even a workout room with fitness equipment and an arts & crafts room. The ambience is subdued compared to the community center, and about as casual as a public library. The civic building gives residents a getaway from home that’s sheltered

from the outdoors and unburdened by the pressure to buy. SECURED SPACE For a guarantee of space and a measure of privacy, room rentals are available, with most starting at just $5 per hour for Anthem residents and businesses ($20 for non-residents). Anthem spokesperson Kristi Northcutt said, “To date, we’ve hosted business meetings/retreats... award banquets, graduation parties, showers... nonprofit organizations, recitals/music groups ... tutoring/education groups, support groups... card games and study/ homework groups among others.” However, rooms are not available for profit-generating activities. Resident Emily Locke said she’s had excellent experiences at the civic building, both as an attendee and a host. “The reservation rates are fairly priced and the drop-in option is great! Everyone has been very pleasant to work with… The facilities have always been clean and well maintained.”
CURRENTS » COMMUNITY To rent a room, applicants must submit an application to scheduling coordinator Jan Sieber. At least three days’ notice is preferred; Two weeks’ notice is required for after-hour events.
The Anthem Community Council, a former tenant in the building, purchased the building for $2.3 million in 2012. io

Moving Can be a Happy Surprise
M
ost struggle with the idea that mom needs more care but absolutely doesn’t want to leave her home and memories. This ticking time-bomb can have you and the rest of your family on edge and the anxiety can erode your relationship.
Now, close your eyes, take a deep breath and imagine, for a moment, the peace of mind that would come from knowing mom is being cared for 24/7 and she is happy! Now, read the message below, and give us a call to see how we can help your family.
Dear Eldermom, I can’t thank you enough for walking me through the entire process of moving my mom from living on her own to an assisted-living home. As you know, I originally called looking for in-home care, but 8 months later we ended up having to move mom into assisted living. As expected, mom went kicking and screaming and wouldn’t even speak to my sister or myself. It hasn’t even been 90 days since she moved in, and when I went to see her last week she was so happy playing bingo with her new friends, she told me to sit on the couch and wait because she wanted to win one more prize! (If you only knew what an introvert she has been her whole life!) Yesterday, she told me how happy she was and “wished she would have made this move years ago!” Cheryl, if not for your education, assistance, experience and caring heart, my mom would not be this happy today. My husband and I can’t thank you enough for all you have done for our family.
Independent Living? Assisted Living? Living with Me (or my brother/sister)? Ask the experts!
Cheryl Ables began working in the senior care field 10 years ago, after taking care of her parents and grandparent while raising her children. Sam Ile and his family have been in the business of assisted living homes for more than 20 years. Sam and Cheryl are approaching ten NOW OFFER years as owners of Anthem Senior Living. ING… NATIONWID They also operate Eldermom, a senior SENIOR E placement service and, now, Anthem Senior Retreat Assisted Living RELOCATIO home. Sam and Cheryl are experts at the unique challenges posed SERVICES N by aging parents. Have a question? Write or call today! 602-909-9550, cheryl@eldermom.com. Help is on the way! Anthe &

MEET UP “Knowing you can rent a room at the Civic
Building for as little as $5 an hour, will it benefit you?”
Jon Corey
University Professor Anthem
“Not really. In my opinion Anthem resources are for upgrades, maintenance, renovation. Anthem residents have already paid in so they should benefit from it with no additional charges.”
Amy Hughes
Sales, Anthem
“It does benefit if people know it’s available. I didn’t know about it until now. I was a Girl Scout leader and having a place that is close to me and affordable is helpful.”
Alice Calixtro
Medical Administration, Anthem
“I think it would benefit. We wanted to do a party, but we didn’t have enough room and it was hot. Knowing this was available would have been a consideration.”
Corinne Rodman
At-home Mom, Anthem
“Yes, I’d say so. It gives an option for space and you don’t have to go far for it. The price… You can’t beat it.”

Stop at the Coachella Valley Preserve just three miles north of the highway, where short hiking trails pass over shallow pools of cool water and beneath tall palm trees in 20,000 acres of palm oases. The visitor center is
closed during summer but the preserve is open for hiking and picnicking. Consider taking a tour of the fault zone. Desert Adventures Eco-Tours enjoys exclusive access to Metate Ranch, home to some spectacular geological formations. The heat can be brutal so consider an early morning tour. io

An Open Letter to the New Ace Hardware…
‘More Door Thingies, Please’ Dear Ace Hardware, just wanted to take minute to (re)welcome you to the neighborhood. I think I can speak for most neighbors when I say we are excited you’re coming to town. We wish you much success.
I
While I am not one to give advice (shh, they don’t know me yet!), and I’m certain that you know much more about the hardware business than I, I do have a few humble suggestions that might just help you enjoy a long and profitable tenure here in Anthem.
•1
There are about 10,000 homes in our little hamlet, and they all have the same things that break or wear out. Please keep a generous supply of the following (locally specific) dodads on hand: sliding door rollers, window latches, doorbell buttons, furnace filters, door stops/ knobs/ hinges, hardwired smoke detectors, sink/toilet shutoff valves & supply lines, garbage disposals, electrical switches/outlets/covers, washers, low-voltage light bulbs, garage-door remotes… Well, you get the idea. This would be very convenient for us.
•2
Please have a master screen repair technician in house. We promise to keep him/her very busy.
• 3
We are a handy bunch so keep a good stock on hand of quality screws, nails, hooks and other stuff for fixing stuff. And speaking of hooks, we have this humongous fishing lake right across the street. A small tackle section might be appreciated. And lots of glue. And lots of caulk.
•4
Please consider hiring locals. Not only will all their friends come in, but they can help you add to the list of “Anthem essentials”
provided above. Please remember the folks in New River and Desert Hills are local, too, and they have stuff that breaks as well.
•5
Consider a little (maybe big) bulletin board where we can put up flyers for services, events, etc. We like those. Other than that, I’m sure you probably have a handle on things so I’ll leave you to important tasks like stocking the shelves, making me fresh-baked cookies, etc. Thank you for taking the time to read this and we all look forward to meeting you. io
