Good Neighbor Fund 2023 Donor Impact Update

The Inova Good Neighbor Fund continues to cover critical costs for patients who benefit from our community health programs. It helps provide transportation such as Lyft rides to and from appointments to all of our Inova Cares Clinic locations. It also provides direct patient assistance for expenses that aren’t typically covered. All four of Inova’s retail pharmacies use this fund whenever a patient can’t afford their medications. This year there has been an increased number of patients needing help. Many are no longer eligible for Medicaid due to new restrictions or are living on the cusp of Medicaid/Charity Care eligibility. This fund helps those who have nowhere else to go. A veteran with long-standing health issues and her husband were visiting the area from LA when she had an acute flare-up that put her in the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Emergency Room. She was immediately admitted and sent to surgery. They were only planning on being in the area for a few days and this fund helped pay for their hotel room, transportation and food while she was being treated. Inova Fair Oaks Surgeon, Dr. Savoca, also identified an underlying problem that had been missed by her doctors back home and fixed it for her. She is now flying back and forth to see him to continue her ongoing care.
