Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Cinco is now a St. Petersburg, Florida local that always sticks out in the crowd. Constantly learning new techniques from his peers and fellow artists to expand his changing and growing styles. Stencils, Cartoons, 3 Dimensional, and even some Photography are just some of what he enjoys getting up on. Always taking on new art and business ventures to further his reach, Cinco promotes and sponsors acts such as those on Mother Brain Records and New York City skaterAustin Paz, with his designs and T-shirts (another one of his passions). “I am honored my favorite artists (in every aspect of the word) are those I am lucky enough to know and work with.�

Brandon McLean
A mixed media artist currently living in Orlando, Florida. The art process began for Brandon after a blood clot bombarded the right side of his brain, resulting in a stroke back in May of 2000 His work combines found images, collage, and paint in pieces he entitles ‘character excursions.’ These journeys are meant to investigate and showcase the layers of lives and the evidence that they left behind. Eagerly exploring the ephemeral detritus of the past, Brandon combines these worn elements finding word and image associations along the way in hopes of triggering a sense of nostalgia with the viewer.

Monstro
Bringing a little more color to the St. Petersburg landscape, a Texan painter who now creates his art in the city of sunshine. His bold, clean-lined original characters come to life in many forms, including paint, sculpture, stickers, apparel and shoes. Although he etches direct references in favor of challenging his own imagination, he has been influenced by stickers, graphic design, urban art and anime. Both international and local artists inspire him to keep creating, along with the support of Moon, his girlfriend and fellow painter.

Living in St. Petersburg, FL,and heavily influenced by graff art and street art, his work portrays the ongoing influences and decay in society, sometimes with a bold political statement and other times, things based off of life experiences or how he feels at that particular moment in time. His lifelong goal is to form a collective of like minded, motivated and determined artists to travel and inspire other unknown and upcoming young artists and try to give them a chance and give back to the communities where we grew up. It is a movement, it’s about the people, its about survival through the love of art.

Why did you decide to go with NEM as your artistic name? My full name is Nicholas Eugene Mitchell. I sign my artwork with my initials N.E.M. Then people just started calling me “NEM” at art shows. So I rolled with it. Who are you and where are you from? I’m Nick Mitchell, and I’m from Tampa Florida. I just moved to Orlando in 2008.

So you have been traveling for a while, where would you say has been the best place for an artist to be an artist? Most of my income comes from drawing live caricatures at special events, parties, and festivals. I travel all over the east coast of the U.S. and by far the best place has been New York. Now I’ve only done art shows in Florida, and so far Downtown Orlando has to be the best. The art community here is vast. The talent level is amazing. And the opportunities are non stop. What would you name your style of work? “Exaggerated reality.” Most people know me from my pop icon art. I’ve been working on something new. “Exaggerated Christianity”. It’s going to have my exaggerated style and deal with my view on God and religion. What is the meaning of the characters in your pieces? Where does the inspiration come from? I was just like most kids growing up. I loved movies, and comic books. So with my love for movies, and being the big smart ass that I am, caricatures was a natural fit. The art form of caricature is amazing to me. To have the ability to take the face and exaggerate it to the extreme while maintaining a likeness, blows my mind. It’s unbelievable what you can get away with, and still make it look like them. What are your goals as an artist? To piss people off, cause waves, get a reaction, positive or negative. You need to remember, for the past 10 years, I’ve been making fun of peoples faces for a living. So I hunger for that reaction. And want it no matter what form of art I’m doing. What is your process for working on a piece? How long does it take you from coming up with an idea to finishing a piece? This is always a hard question to answer because I was never taught how to paint. I don’t have a process. I just throw paint on a board till it looks good. It’s very frustrating. I’m never comfortable. But I will be attending a painting class starting this fall. I’m really excited!!! I have no idea how long it takes me. The problem is I can never sit still. I paint a little then I’m running around doing something else. If I had to guess it would be around 2-6 hours.

Do you think of your art as existing within a moral context, or do you think that a moral context is necessary for true creativity? It depends on your definition of “morals”. If we’re talking about the worlds “morals” as in right and wrong, then my answer is neither. There’s no morals in my caricature work. I just see something that is interesting in a person’s face, and then I jack it up. There’s no thought. It’s just how I see them. You can’t have morals in this game. If I get a fat person in my chair, I can’t have my morals telling me to be nice and draw them skinny. Or if they have a big nose, i can’t give them a small one. I have to exaggerate what they have because that’s who they are. When I would train new caricature artist, the first thing I would say to them was “make them cry! Were not here to fix people, where here to make fun of them.” I think if you let the worlds morals run your art work your going to trap yourself in a box. You need to create art work that causes people to question what your doing and why. Make people think. Get a reaction!
What word of advice would you give upcoming artists? Find your own voice. And use it!!! What has been your favorite show to date and why? I’m not a big fan of attending art shows. A lot of fake people trying to look important. Trying to uphold an “image”. I’m just trying to pay my rent! But If I had to pick one it would be “Gala Corina” in Tampa. I have a lot of artist friends working there. So I can chill and hide from the fakies. And I sell artwork there every time. What artists would you like to paint with that you have not yet worked with and why? Jason Seiler. He’s an amazing painter. I can learn a lot from him. What’s in your future? Hopefully that chili cheese dog I mentioned earlier

What is your name? Derek M. Ballard aka Thee Line Tamer aka two baby’s daddy. Where does the name come from ? High atop a snowy mountain peak a gutteral snarl emerges that declares, “ THESE LINES ARE TAMED.” Siegfried & Roy never had it so tough. Tigers are tamed in a third of the time. What is the type of style of your work? Sun-bleached VHS box cover art and velcro having sex.

What made you decide to take art to galleries and showcase? Last year Giant Robot invited me to do several shows at their GR2 location in L.A. That made me want to mess around with paint again. How would you describe your process when working on a new project? That’s the hardest part. When I’m waist deep in a project the decisions come easily, but starting anew is always an uphill struggle. You have to remain open to all possibilities while limiting yourself at the same time. It’s cosmic.
What is the meaning of your work, where does your inspiration come from? Hmmm, I’m just lookin’ for that feelin’, y’know? What artists would you like to paint with that you have not yet worked with and why? I don’t really like working with others. What can I say? I’m a jerk. Inspiration and motivation? I have to make my art. I’ve never felt like there was any other option. What’s in your future? EDGE OF EXISTENCE Written by Rex Thomas
“Popular Nuclear has found geologically compatible terrain in North America for its first US-based manufacturing facility” reported Richard Reep, who is Master Architect for the entire campus. Reep recently consented to an interview upon return from a trip to their existing plant on the Thai-Chinese border. Off-the-grid home appliances will be ready for retail by December 2012 thanks to the Department of Energy’s $4 billion stimulus money. “It’s a town-company, not a company town” stated Reep after visiting their site in Asia. “It’s the future.” Reep’s visit to Asia, shrouded in secrecy, is revealed in these smuggled-out these images of their plant, where PN creates and inserts tiny nuclear reactors into ordinary home appliances.

Supachai Bangbang Rattakosin, the Thai entrepreneur who began Popular Nuclear, marketed these for the poverty-stricken countryside where no electric power exists in most towns. In Thailand, Popular Nuclear is known as “Uranium with a human face”, and Rattakosin is a highly respected entrepreneur and businessman, having helped bring western scientific civilization to rural Asia. In the next issue, Reep will reveal his sketches of the prototype project in China, and in the following issue, will unveil images of Popular Nuclear’s U.S. based plant.
