bask in the
MIDNIGHT SUN
With nearly endless daylight, Fairbanks’ summers are filled with energy and brimming with action. During Midnight Sun Season— April 22 through August 20—sunsets seamlessly merge into sunrises because the sun never goes down far enough for the sky to get truly dark. In fact, from mid-May through late July, Fairbanks experiences continuous daylight for 70 straight days. This constant sunlight transforms life in pleasing and wondrous ways with the rousing midnight sun calling people to the verdant outdoors. 6
Middle-of-the-night activities include golfing, biking and hiking. Go for a midnight run, float the Chena River or indulge in a late-night dessert on an outdoor deck. At the peak of solstice, the Midnight Sun Festival takes over downtown Fairbanks for a 12-hour street fair in honor of this Far North phenomenon and the Alaska Goldpanners start their historic solstice baseball game at 10pm without ever turning the lights on. With the midnight sun simply refusing to set, our top-of-the-world town enjoys one of the best summers the planet has to offer.
