Stephen B. Ballard
S
teve Ballard lives in Virginia Beach with his wife of 34 years, BJ, and their two dogs. His wife BJ has been his supporter from day one and is the love of his life. They have two children, Stephen Jr. and Stephanie. The Ballard family has welcomed a daughter-in-law, Lindsey Holland-Ballard, and a son-inlaw, Luke Hillier, and in May 2014, Stephen Jr. and Lindsey welcomed their first child, Ballard’s granddaughter, Summer Grace Ballard. Without a doubt, Ballard’s marriage is the linchpin of his success. Without this wonderful woman by his side, Ballard knows that he would not have made it to where he is today. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, taking his boat out on the water and spending time at his condo in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Today S.B. Ballard Construction Co. is the seventh largest general contractor in Virginia, a far cry from namesake Stephen Ballard’s humble beginnings in 1978, pouring concrete to create driveways and sidewalks. His ambition and drive, coupled with his dedication to providing each owner a quality project, completed on-time and on budget,
fueled the growth of his business. From Virginia north to Maryland and south to Florida, clients sought out his services. S.B. Ballard Construction continues to succeed and grow. Hands-on is the best way to describe Ballard. From reviewing all drawings to discovering new ways to anticipate problems, reduce costs and deliver projects that please customers and enhance communities, Ballard is always involved in all aspects of a project. “Our company has considerable experience with pre-construction and has adopted an integrated approach model to capture community input,” says Ballard, whose name is on such iconic buildings as the National Aquarium in Bal-
timore, the Ted Constant Center in Norfolk and the International Plaza in Tampa, Fla. Throughout the company’s 36 years, Ballard has been involved in numerous organizations, serving as a board member for CHKD’s Run for the Children, treasurer of the Old Dominion University Education Foundation, board member for Edmarc Hospice, past president of the Associated General Contractors of America and is currently serving as chairman of the Old Dominion University Educational Foundation and serves as chairman of the Virginia Beach Wetlands Board, a board member of the TCC Educational Foundation and a Trustee of the Norfolk Educational Foundation.
