TRENDSPOTTING Themes, Mood and Colours for Spring 2020
New York - Texworld delivered a first look at important themes for S/S 2020 on day one of their biannual textile and sourcing event held in New York City this month. The presentation which was delivered by their Art Director, Louis Gerin, outlines the leading palettes and rising aesthetics decoded by their transatlantic trend team into prevailing moods, colors, and textures.
Described as a current vision for the world of tomorrow, the focus is on new beginnings and rebirth. Complete acknowledgment of how humanity has put our planet at risk is what is drives the future, as beauty will be identified in the details and in the remains of what we took to be waste. Gerin referred to the overall palette for Spring 2020 as a dirty rainbow, broken into sub themes, the first of which, “Precursory Remnant,” offers colors with names such as Crepuscular Dawn, Savage Land and Oily Cement.
Explaining the theme entitled “Reincarnated Relic,” Gerin says, “As we had to invent the tool thousands of years ago, we will have to reinvent plastic, oil, nuclear power, garbage and rubbish of all sorts,..and what does not kill us makes us stronger.” Dominant colors which evoke this brave new world are Plasticized Ink, Mad Mastic and Washed Out Gum.

Themes, Mood and Colours for Spring 2020
Described as being a “Flickering Oasis,” tomorrow will take solid shape under the guidance of the thinkers and artists who will imagine it. Colors of this oasis are Opalescent Lagoon, Aquatic Mirror and Uncertain Stream.
The fourth and final theme, “Passionate Gateway,” describes a new path to the future which no longer exhausts resources but opens up the horizon, leading us to a Utopia rather than an abyss as children of nature all existing together on this miraculous earth. Colors which represent it are Spectral Dawn, No Gender Blue and Universal Fusion.
Although we have come close to self-destruction by rejecting our responsibilities in the past, we have grown up and are ready to enter a new golden age, in which all these colors merge in freeing harmony. As Gerin says, “We had to accept our darkness to illuminate it.” Fashion editor Jackie Mallon is also an educator and author of Silk for the Feed Dogs, a novel set in the international fashion industry.Photos Texworld.

Trendstop’s colour experts bring you the latest colour themes and colour groupings that will be impacting the menswear market into SS20 and beyond. Our team reveals the essential directions for core and fashion shades that will be key across apparel, accessories and footwear. The season’s palette sees light and dark, warm earth and cool industrial, vibrantly bright and softly muted, working together in new and unexpected combinations for a fresh take on men’s colour. Each season, our comprehensive colour forecasts identify the shades that will be crucial to your collections, with analysis and evaluation of each trend’s commercial value and longevity that gives you the best possible basis for your decision making. An exclusive look at three key men’s colour themes integral to the SS20 season. Fashion Forward Cores transforms everyday tones into a trend-led tonal palette while Whitened Pastels provide a wearable alternative to saturated brights and neons. Black Wash Darks continues to tap into fashion’s trans-seasonal trend with a contemporary update on classic hues.
DFU’s Moda Collezioni 04
Spring Summer 2020 Men’s Colour Themes FASHION FORWARD CORES Established from a rise in more fashionable neutrals the S/S 2020 core palette boast uplifting yellow and orange undertones that enhance classic shades. This experimental stance means new cores can be used to build an entire palette with tonal interest and have the same impact as traditional fashion colours. Use this season’s cores as allover colours and elevate by pairing against a tonal statement from our accents.
WHITENED PASTELS As vibrant neons and fun shades such as Millennial Pink rise in popularity, pastels develop with a whitened & bleached cast for S/S 2020. The bleached finish of Concrete Pink, Banana Sorbet and Honeydew lend themselves to essential items like jersey, tech and wovens for an ultra-lightweight summer aesthetic.
BLACK WASH DARKS As consumers become more experimental and seek alternatives to black, classic staples such as navy, burgundy and forest green develop with a blackened depth and mattified finish to become key fashion colours for S/S 2020.

Men’s Spring Summer 2020 Overview PRADA
Miuccia Prada headed to Shanghai, marking the 40 years of twinning between the city and her Milanese home with a ‘Welcome to the Pleasuredome’ themed show. Classic menswear codes were subverted with exaggerated, oversized proportions and experimental layering that brought a playful, boyish feel to traditional tailoring.
CRAIG GREEN
Taking inspiration from human anatomy, skin textures and ancient Egyptian deities, Craig Green’s collection fused practicality with cross-cultural embellishment. Leather coats, functional pocketed tailoring and overalls featured decorative embroidery, feather trims and padded satin panels for a luxe take on utilitywear.
SAINT LAURENT
Anthony Vaccarello hit the beach for SS20 with a boardwalk runway and a 1970s infused bohemian collection that saw LA meet Morocco. Saharan references, djellaba shirts and tassel trims were blended with a Mick Jagger-inspired gloss with silk, satin and beading lending a lushly vintage appeal to contemporary androgyny.

Embracing natural elements and textures is key to creating this ethereal and wild denim elevation. Denim is used like fur or wool to create an organic cosy look. A tactile element comes through in ribbed finishes and heavy velvet or cord-like textures. Threads are pulled to add an undone finish while cotton is shredded to give a shaggy and matted texture to coats and jackets. Dishevelled denim updates winter denim wardrobe.
SOFTENED COMFORT BLENDS As a staple with a casual attitude, denim mbraces a comfort approach. Silhouettes are relaxed, softened and oversized. Washes are pale or patchworked with other darker washes for a mix and match effect. Details such as raw hems, fraying and undone finishes complete the look.

As fashion looks to the Great Outdoors for inspiration, denim follows suit. Function is brought to the forefront with an emphasis on freedom of movement, thermal protection and high resistance wear. Denim fabric is heavier and more robust, while padding takes extreme climates into consideration. Outdoor influenced hardware is also seen in metal zips and buckles.

The future of denim was a hot topic at the show, with eco sustainability and responsibility being at the forefront of the discussion. This season saw the show’s first ever ‘Smart Square’, which showcased brands with an innovative and responsible approach the future of denim. Brands such a Bossa, who aim to reduce water use by 85% and create ranges made of 100% recycled denim. There was also a talk given by Helene Smits, founder of Stating the Obvious Circular Fashion Agency, all about the circular product cycle; thinking about the lifecycle of a product from the start.

URBAN ELEVATION Denim gets an urban, streetwear inspired edge. Urban graphics and splashes of colour put a contemporary twist on classic denim styles. Print, pattern and scale are experimented with for a sense of tongue-incheek fun. Fits are oversized and voluminous. Fraying, rips, distressing and contrast stitching add to the urban edge.
THE TAILORED INFLUENCE A tailoring influence gives rise to a clean and modern denim look. Silhouettes are smart and structured; tailored denim dresses and and herringbones give a nod to modern heritage while brushed denims lend a soft sophistication.

TRENDSPOTTING Spring/Summer 2020 trends for men NINETIES-STYLE CARGO TROUSERS Part of a wider utilitarian trend, men’s cargo pants most clearly made a comeback in Liam Hodges’ (super-accomplished) collection. Whether with drawstring ties for a more cinched waist or loosely flowing with larger-than-life pockets, the cargo is Hodges’ trousers of choice. Then there were cargo pants at Qasimi, Fendi and Stella McCartney, where they came in earthy tones, and at JordanLuca, where they were billowing with risqu slits. When wearing your own cargo pants think “All Saints at their peak”, rather than “Ray Mears climbing a peak”. The best cargo pants to be found in Paris were billowing and workwear-inspired at Lanvin and Louis Vuitton; chic and close cut at Wooyoungmi and Dries van Noten.

Sheer jackets, sheer coats and sheer shirts: it’s all about going see-through next summer season. From meshy trench coats, shirts and Mandarin suit jackets shown at Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace to filmy tracksuits at Qasimi and all-but-invisible rock star-ready T-shirts at John Lawrence Sullivan and Dsquared2, dressing in, well, the emperor’s actual new clothes has never been cooler. The Sheer trend was everywhere in Paris, too. From Organza bomber jackets and shirts at Dior and multi-layered tulle overshirts and cargo pants at Louis Vuitton, to the seethrough vests at Dries van Noten, the look was as sexy as it was soft.

BUY AN OVERSIZED OXFORD SHIRT The return of preppy dressing has been on the cards for some time now, but for Spring/Summer 2020 the trend reaches full tilt. From the return of boat shoes and penny loafers to the proliferation of varsity blazers and rugby shirts, it was the oversized, panelled Oxford shirts shown at Prada, Chalayan and Liam Hodges that provided the most creative take on the trend we’ve seen thus far. The bigger you wear yours, we reckon, the better.

Spring/Summer 2020 trends for men AUTUMNAL HUES (FOR SPRING) Traditionally speaking, the spring/ summer season calls for soft, summery hues of mauve and primrose, millennial pink and mint. Now, however, for Spring/Summer 2020, it’s all about moody, rusty, altogether more autumnal shades of bronze, maroon, copper and burgundy. This trend is best worn out in elegantly cut suiting, as was so elegantly demonstrated at Italian tailoring powerhouse Zegna, Ferragamo, Canali and Brioni. © L to R: Brioni, Salvatore Ferragamo, Giorgio Armani, Ermengildo Zegna, Etro, Canali, Emporio Armani, Ralph Lauren.
DOUBLE DENIM Denim had a major resurgence in both Paris and Milan. Most commonly worn in the form of double denim two pieces - think patchwork denim jeans and donkey jackets at Versace, and denim suits at Loewe - the look was less Marlborough Man at the weekend, more Stonewall protestor storming Haight Ashbury in the seventies. The best takes on the look could be found at Celine, where a bell bottom denim jean and jacket combo felt rakish and cool, also notable was a tasseled denim worker jacket, fisherman jean and denim shirt look at Valentino. © L to R: LOEWE, Valentino, Versace, Celine, Balmain, Heron Preston, Fendi, Louis Vuitton.
WEAR YOUR BOXER SHORTS AS SHORTS You’ll no doubt be aware of the current season’s short shorts trend, but for Spring/Summer 2020 the designers have taken the whole look up a gear by imbuing the trend with an altogether more floaty and, ahem, intimate aesthetic. SS20, it seems, is all about wearing shorts that look like, well, silky smooth boxer shorts. The best could be found in shirting fabrics (matched with button placket vests) at Prada, satins at Kiko Kostadinov, Versace and Giorgio Armani, and floaty light cottons at E Tautz and Fendi. A high-summer, weekend-only trend, this. © L to R: Jordanluca, Prada, Kiko Kostadinov, E Tautz, Versace, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Etro.

TRENDSPOTTING Fashion Trends for Spring/Summer 2020
T
rend forecaster Fashion Snoops recently offered its insights on fashion trends for spring/ summer 2020 at Hong Kong Fashion Week, organized by the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council. Dubbed “Genesis”, “Flash”, “Dose” and “Ethos”, these 4 trends are set to bloom next spring:
ETHOS “Ethos” reminds us of JOMO the joy of missing out. As we seek off-the-grid pleasures, slow living, tranquility and a sense of recharge, colors steer towards warm, lush, optimistic and calming earth tones such as sienna, coral pink, seagrass and sunset. Patterns honor nature and a nomadic lifestyle with broken color-blocking, picnic checks, tropical prints, pumice stone patterns and quiet florals. Traditional and timeconsuming craftwork such as weaving and crocheting inspire a new generation of process-driven materials, including brushed suede, natural straw, bright loom work, textured linen and ultra-fine knit. Silhouettes are influenced by the athleisure trend boasting hiking attires, slouchy fits, second-skin basics, silk sweaters, mohair yarns, knit sheers and fluid vacation dresses, including caftans, shirtdresses and slip dresses. The trend also calls for a rustic mood with micro pleats, sun-bleached finishes and sustainable organic yarns, showcasing how imperfectly beautiful nature can be.

Fashion Trends for Spring/Summer 2020
FLASH
This trend originates from the Instagram culture of encouraging designs to be eye-catching, statementmaking and Insta-worthy. It draws inspiration from the dance movement of the 1980s epitomized by movies like Staying Alive and Simply Ballroom, as well as Madonna’s music video for Vogue. There’s a renewed fascination with ballroom dancing, rock star glam, 1980s sci-fi, and the protest culture that gave birth to punk and grunge.
The sentiment is reflected through explosive colors such as pastel neons, bold purples and contrasting colors, and lustrous surfaces like metallics, glitters and plastics, alongside animal prints, waxed denim with black wash, mesh knits, nylon micro shorts and exaggerated shoulders. Materials: Chain-link mesh, disco metal, gritty surface, plush velvet, technical crepe, plastic coated, satin romance, liquid metal Patterns & Graphics: Fierce, gritty art, rock star glam, hectic repeat, explosive color, pink with envy, monochrome, club glow

other Nature knows best. Even though trend forecasters Christine Boland, Tony Bannister and Christine Foden come from different parts of the world (Holland, Australia and the UK, to be exact), they all came to the same conclusion: nature-inspired color palettes will dominate fashion and interior design in the Spring/Summer of 2020. The more consumers become aware of the impact of overconsumption on the environment and the effect of stress on our mental health, the more they will long to slow down and go back to basics. The colors, shapes and materials likely to gain popularity will therefore reflect this desire to rethink our habits and reconnect with nature. Boland, Bannister and Foden were reunited in Amsterdam last week for a trend seminar organized by forecasting agency Appletizer. FashionUnited attended the event and shares its main takeaways.
TREND #1: CALMING NEUTRALS Neutral colors such as off-white, cream and ecru were mentioned by all three experts as a big trend for the Spring/Summer of 2020. They will come in natural or sustainable materials such as linen, jute and organic cotton. Silhouettes will be structured and minimalist. “The kind of clothing that looks simple, but actually requires a lot of work to be made”, explained Boland. Tactility is a very important aspect in this theme: fabrics which are rustic in texture will be preferred. As for prints, they will also be reduced to their essence with discrete geometric patterns.

Nature-inspired colors set to dominate Spring/Summer 2020 TREND #2: SAVE THE WAVES Not only are consumers increasingly prone to use their wallets to protest against plastic pollution, they will also draw inspiration from the sea to obtain the tranquility they are longing for. Muted shades of aqua, turquoise and blue will be everywhere in Spring/Summer 2020, according to the trend forecasters, with red coming as an accent to all these pastels. Darker, deeper shades of blue reminiscent of the sea at night are also likely to rise. References to water will come in the form of ruffles, fluid fabrics and nautical prints as well. TREND #3: GREENERY Greens obviously had to be part of the list, considering the Spring/ Summer of 2020 will be all about being in harmony with nature. “But it’s nature infused with urban functionality”, adverted Foden, noting that dark forest greens and citric yellows will be spotted in items such as cargo pants, fishing vests and shirts with multifunctional pockets. “Utilitarian fashion is here to stay”, said Bannister, adding that this theme will also come to represent tech innovation, as green is likely to be paired with lightweight, technical fabrics. TREND #4: FEEL THE SUNSET That beautiful mix of red, orange and fuchsia we sometimes see in the sky at sunset will be a huge source of inspiration in the Spring/ Summer 2020, according to the three experts. Fiery reds, rusty brows, bright oranges and magentas will be combined with each other. Tony Bannister calls this theme “Atmospheric”, while Foden calls it “Heatwave”. Deserts, terracotta pots, cinnamon, ginger spice and burnt henna also help to visualize what this theme is about. TRENDSPOTTING Jeanswear for Women Spring-Summer 2020 Jeans were invented in the nineteenth century by Levi Strauss as work uniforms, and now they are an essential part of any wardrobe. And indeed, in the 2020 collections, designers have decided to recall their head-tail history. The skinny jeans drop on the second place being replaced by flared jeans. Pockets are getting bigger and cutouts more. The waist line is also unstable: we see patterns with both a high waist and a low waist. As for the length, then the actual remains to be short boyfriend jeans. A must-have of the spring-summer season 2020 are the jeans that cover the shoes.
PREWASHED JEANS Once a symbol of youth self-expression, now an accessible and fashionable thing: “prewashed” jeans appear again in collections of brands such as Balenciaga, Givenchy and Stella McCartney. Fortunately, now you do not have to remember the technology of limited time, boiling jeans in bleach. The main advantage of the model is its unique color, obtained through special technologies. In addition to the classic indigo, the fabric can be saturated with any color. In the new season, designers urge us to wear them with bulky denim jackets and turtlenecks with animal print.
THICK CUFFS If your jeans are long, you do not have to sew anything to adjust them to your height. A main complement of any model, especially if it’s a flare, is its reverse, contrasting with the front. Now the cuff reaches unimaginable heights, reaching to the knees. A free and slightly neglected image is completed by a male shirt or a kimono jacket to the middle of the thigh.
LOW WAIST A kind of “hello” from the mid-2000s are flared jeans with low waist and original prints. Before buying this model, you will have to sweat quite a bit in the gym: this year you will have to show each one the result of a rough workout as a flat abdomen. The low-heeled jackets are worn with asymmetrical tops, bustier, short jackets and bolero jackets. It’s just one thing to choose the ideal sandals in metallic shades with a stinging stiletto heel!
CONTRASTING INSERTS In 2020, jeans have to share the top of popularity with other materials, especially leather and textile with prints. The contrast of colors and textures is determined by the ultramodern trend of the new season: the denim stops in the knee area and passes into the leather. In addition, we do not forget about multicolor applications, embroidery and ethnic prints, if you are going to buy a pair of original jeans and in the wardrobe you have plenty of basic designs. Jeanswear for Women Spring-Summer 2020 BOYFRIENDS AND BANANA PANTS In the new season, nothing should stop our moves, and all the more when fashion returns back to the 80’s. About the jeans borrowed from the beloved, a lot was said, especially in the context of the oversized style and the the male style transition into the female closet. The unique favorites of the year were “bananas” the famous style of high-waisted pants, which offers extra volume on hips. What can we wear with in the new season? First of all, with a lightweight jacket with big shoulders. Secondly, with an asymmetrical silk tunic or a multicolored geometric top with a thin leather strap and a brutal metal buckle. And most importantly, a pair of evening sandals in basic colors (beige or black) with a high heel.
FOCUS ON HIPS The spring-summer season 2020 has no claim to the width of the jeans and the waist height, but the shapes must necessarily be highlighted! We do this with patterns that tighten the hip area and highlight the waist. Thanks to these two lines, you can get an incredible effect, creating a contrast between them: visually narrow the waist with a wide dark leather belt with a large metal buckle. They can also be complemented with different silk chains and scarves around them. If hip flexion requires instant correction, choose an elegant waist bag.
STRIPES AND PIPING Thanks to some tricks, you can easily add a few centimeters to the length of the legs and to the height in general (if necessary). The simplest ways are high heels. This spring, the “wow” effect is complemented by vertical stripes on jeans. These can be stripes of fabric in contrasting colors and even glossy stripes. In addition, the jeans print can combine two shades at once: stripes open on the dark background or vice versa. Additional centimeters in the hip area can be corrected with elongated jackets and cardigans, and if we have nothing to hide put on bold tops and seamless turtlenecks!
WIDE LEG JEANS
A sure answer for skinny jeans that have not left the list of trendy trends for years are hip flared jeans (such as wide-palazzo trousers). Their advantages are indeed many: they hide all the imperfections of the body and make the feet infinitely long. Designers have shortened patterns that remind of culottes, however, if you are not very tall, we recommend you to choose the maximum length + sandals with the highest heels! For the best effect, choose a three-dimensional shoulder coat or an asymmetric top with puffy sleeves.

TRENDSPOTTING Best Jeans for Women Spring-Summer 2020 RIPPED JEANS About the relevance of ripped jeans is
useless to talk about, this trend goes from season to season. But in 2020 there is something that we must definitely pay attention to. In addition to contrasting textile inserts and patch strips, the size of the tear increases. More and more, they pass away, often in addition to the piping jeans. Giant ruptures and prominent threads: we come back to grunge style theme. We take a leather jacket with confidence, an oversize shirt that will come out of the bra and in the place of the trainers and the massive boots, opt for high-heeled boots or stiletto shoes.
LENGTH Jeans have for some time been an integral
part of the basic women’s closet, and the presence of several pairs in it is a must. The “minimum” program says one of them should have a length that fits perfectly even with the highest heels. The spring-summer season makes a choice in favor of the flared kneelength jeans, which almost completely covers the shoes. You certainly did not think your feet could look that long!
S
o in the spring-summer season 2020, designers clearly bet on jeans patterns of the era, practically without changing them in modern times. We begin to break up with the “skinny” patterns: now the sexuality and beauty of the female body is expressed by very long legs, and this effect is not achieved by tight shapes but by the easy fit cut.
