GEORGIA

Situated at the crossroads where Europe meets Asia, Georgia is also known as “Europe’s balcony.” Georgia excites every single visitor with its natural and cultural diversity; the country combines the stunning natural beauty of the high mountains of the Greater Caucasus (over 5000m), the volcanic formations of the Lesser Caucasus range, the Black sea coastline with deserts, vineyards, Lakes and forests, all of this on a small territory of 69700 km2 . Thanks to its rich history and early Christianity the country offers travelers many ancient monuments and sites with an authentic atmosphere, some of which are on the list of UNESCO World heritage sites.

THE CAPITAL OF GEORGIA, TBILISI

The capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, is its largest city, with a population of roughly 1.4 million. The name Tbilisi is derived from the Georgian word “Tpili”, meaning warm, given to the city because of the abundance of sulfuric hot springs. Tbilisi enchants with its history, colorful architecture and dynamic lifestyle. Over the centuries people of various ethnic backgrounds and persuasions easily mixed here and lived peacefully side by side. The architecture in Tbilisi is a blend of various cultural styles. One of the most remarkable features are the wooden balconies of the Old Town, which vary in size, colour and style.

WEATHER

Georgia enjoys temperate weather with mild winters and long, hot summers. The climate ranges from subtropical Mediterranean in the west to arid and warm in the east. Summer temperatures average +20 °C to +26°C, winter temperatures 0°C to +4°C. Humidity is lower, and rainfall averages 500 to 3500 mm per year. The best season for cultural and outdoor tourism in Georgia is from the mid-April to the midOctober. From the mid-December to April winter travelers are welcome in countries’ 4 Ski Resorts.

Georgia lies in the heart of the South Caucasus region, between the Greater and Lesser Caucasus Ranges, on the eastern coastline of the Black Sea. The first states were formed on the territory of modern Georgia in 12-7th century BC, among them Colchis kingdom, where according to the popular Greek legend Argonauts sailed in search of the Golden Fleece. Georgia’s total area is 69,700 km², with the population of approx. 3.7 million. It is a representative democratic parliamentary republic. The only official language of the country is “Kartuli”, which has its own writing system – the Georgian script. The largest part of the population in Georgia practices Orthodox Christianity.

PEOPLE

Georgians are exceptionally hospitable, their culture rich with traditions. It is believed that the key to appreciating Georgian people lies in their cheerful character, marked by spontaneity, sincerity and sense of humor. According to a popular legend, it was these qualities of their national character that God liked so much that when creating the world, He gave Georgians the best lands that he originally wanted to keep for Himself.
