PROGRAM NOTES
Feliz Navidad - This song, which translates to “Merry Christmas” was written and recorded by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter José Feliciano in 1970. Little ones are encouraged to get up and dance to one of our favorite holiday tunes!
Jingle Bells - Jingle Bells was written by James Lord Pierpont in 1850 in Massachusetts and has been a holiday favorite ever since! Chloe from Central City Opera leads us in this group sing-along. If you know the words, sing with us!
Winter from the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi (c. 1718) - is a violin concerto, which means that our concertmaster, Byron, has a very important part! Listen for cracking ice, chattering teeth, and stomping boots in the music. Dancers from Kim Robards Dance Company LaRana, Abril, and Rachel will also join us to show us what winter looks like in movement. Choreography by Kim Robards.
Let It Go - This song was written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez for the 2013 Disney film Frozen, in which it was sung by Idina Menzel. This song was translated into an incredible 42 languages for the film! Chloe joins us again for this number.
Frosty the Snowman - was originally written by Walter "Jack" Rollins and Steve Nelson in 1950 and recorded by Gene Autry. It has since been re-imagined by other artists and made into several TV specials, including the 1969 version that some of the adults in the room may remember. Sing along with us!

Sandman Aria-Santa Claus is Coming to Town - The first part of this song is from German composer Englebert Humperdinck’s 1892 opera Hansel and Gretel. Chloe will pretend to be the Sandman and help us all go to sleep, because we all know Santa only comes when we’re sleeping! The second part of this song is Jackson 5's version of the 1934 classic Santa Claus is Coming to Town.
Believe Medley - Chloe will sing this mashup of two wonderful songs about believing: the first is Believe, sung by Josh Groban in the 2004 film The Polar Express, and the second is When you Believe from the 1998 film The Prince of Egypt. We’d like to extend a special thank you to our young audience members for reminding us of the importance of believing.
Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel - Dreidel is a game played with a foursided spinning top, often played at Hanukkah. In this arrangement of Laurie Berkner’s version of this song, little ones will get up and spin around and fall down along with Jingles.
PROGRAM NOTES,
I Live Inside a Snowglobe - This is another song by Laurie Berkner, all about using our imaginations to pretend we are inside a snowglobe. We are putting an Inside the Orchestra twist on the words, though, because you’ll find a cello, oboe, drumset, and tuba in our snowglobe. Shake and pretend to play those instruments along with us!
Sleigh Ride - Jingles the elf isn’t just Santa’s #1 helper, he’s also a world class performer, and he’s got a surprise up his sleeve! He will be joining us on Sleigh Ride, an orchestra standard written by Leroy Anderson in 1946. Our version has a jazzy twist in the middle!
Each piece of music you heard today was customarranged by our very own Conductor Dan!
Inside the Orchestra is committed to representation. Over 40% of our programming comes from the artistic body of BIPOC and/or female artists, or is from the folk traditions of historically underrepresented cultures. Click or scan the QR code to learn more.
