Message from the Organizer

Welcome to the 2nd Edition of Retailers Forum 2014. The year started off with our quest to reach out to various retailers countrywide through retail conferences/forums. I am proud to announce that we managed to reach out to 90% of retailers in Kenya having held the events in major strategic towns; Eldoret, Nakuru, Nyeri, Kisii, Kakamega, Mombasa, Thika and a today’s culmination in Nairobi. We also owe the success to all retail solution providers who have supported us while sharing information and knowledge on how to improve and modernize your businesses. It is my hope that these local forums become a MUST ATTEND for retailers as a way of sharing industry knowledge and expertise while peers to learn on how to overcome and address business challenges. “Retail is simple but complicated by Retailers...” This was the parting shot from the just concluded Retailers’ Congress held on 18-19th November 2014 in South Africa. The international forum that saw nine participants from Kenya and Uganda providing an opportunity to meet solution providers and retailers as well as those eyeing to invest or set up in the region. I would like to urge all retailers who have the capacity, to plan for such international forums as we all seek to remain competitive. Discussions are ongoing to have Kenya host a similar event either in 2015 or 2016. Today, Retail Interchange Center in conjunction with its sponsors is planning to launch the Retail Awards 2014 aimed at awarding excellence and best practices in the industry whose climax will be an event scheduled for end of Q1/2015. I sincerely thank all our sponsors, speakers and delegates who took time off their busy schedules to attend this particular forum as well as those held in the major towns and urge you to plan for similar activities in 2015. Finally, I wish you a merry Christmas and Prosperous New year 2015. Mr. Titus Korir Event Organizer

Ceo Speech

istinguished Speakers, Retrak Members, Sponsors, exhibitors and Invited Guests, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to this Retail Forum themed “The emerging technological trends, global best practices and benchmark for Retail Industry â€?. My name is Wambui Mbarire, the Chief Executive Officer of Retrak. Retrak has been actively on the ground for just under two years and we have come along way in this very short time. RETRAK is the Retail Trade Association of Kenya for all Retailers big or small. We at RETRAK have a vision, a vision to continuously strive to grow and improve the retail industry in Kenya and beyond. Growth not only means bigger but also means better. As a business everyone wants to grow and make more profit. At RETRAK we belief that grow goes hand in hand with better quality and better trade practices. Better trade practices covers various aspects from a better work place for your employees resulting in higher productivity, better services resulting in healthy competition and the use of the ever developing and improving technologies to complement grow. We want to bring Retailers onto a level playing field, promoting fair trade with other industries. Better quality means better services, better products indeed greener products. We are sensitive to the impact on the environment that growth has and we want to encourage green growth. As my parting remarks I want to leave you with the thought of green growth and how your business can contribute to and benefit from this. The government is currently looking for ways of dealing with the large amounts of unmanaged plastic waste. Our contribution as retailers to this waste has been the carrybags that we give to our customers. How can we encourage our customers to reuse, recycle and consequently reduce the amount of plastic papers in our environment. How can we as retailers help I once again take this opportunity to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to attend this forum. It is my humble request that at the end of the day, more retailers will join the association so that we can become a voice to reckon with. I wish everyone a very successful Forum‌. Yours truly, Wambui Mbarire
