Japan’s tech startups bitgrit and Atrae brings their professional job ‘matching’ app in India

• The Yenta app will allow professionals and employers to ‘swipe right’ to the profiles of their interest. • Under the initiative, the company is also inviting data scientists from around the world for an online competition — ‘SwipeToSuccess’ — to submit their optimization models for the app. • Starting today, the competition will be accepting the optimisation algorithms for the next 69 days — until

October 31, 2020. • The top five submissions will be rewarded with cash prizes totalling US$10,000 ( nearly ₹7.4 lakh).

About Atrae - Atrae is a Tokyobased People Tech Company that was formulated in 2003 with a vision to create businesses that expand people's possibilities through technology.

Global data science platform bitgrit has collaborated with Atrae, a Japanese internet company, to launch their professional job ‘matching’ and networking application — Yenta app — to bridge the talent gap in India. The joint initiative will allow professionals to connect and engage with hiring managers for jobs in India as well as Japan.

Under the initiative, the company is also inviting data scientists from around the world for an online competition — ‘SwipeToSuccess’ — to submit their optimization models for the app. The idea is to build a model to predict the level of compatibility of a pair of users based on their profiles — and ensure that the app recommends the most linked and suitable profiles to the users.

“We are pleased to announce the launch of yenta in India as our first base for global expansion in collaboration with bitgrit. India’s data science community is inevitably going to grow in the future. With this competition, we aim to tap

the potential of data scientists and expand the services provided by the Yenta app across India,” said the CTO of Atrae Corporation, Toshiyuki Oka.

The competition will kickstart on Monday (August 24) and will be accepting optimisation algorithms for the next 69 days (till October 31, 2020). The top five submissions will be rewarded with cash prizes totalling USD10,000 ( nearly ₹7.4 lakh).

Commenting on the launch, Tetsuro Masunaga, Co-founder & CEO of bitgrit said “We are pleased to partner with Atrae for the expansion of their yenta app to India and this online AI competition to improve the app’s profile-matching algorithm. This partnership will strengthen bitgrit’s data science community and provide a platform to showcase their domain skills in emerging technologies.”

The mobile application, which was first launched in Japan in 2016, aims to connect professionals in the IT space. It currently has users from over 20,000 companies where professionals can network, get a job, engage with industry experts and founders for partnerships. The cross -industry platform will enable employers to spot and hire skilled talent and also interact with other business owners. The professionals and employers registered on the Yenta app can ‘swipe right’ on a suitable match and chat with them, if the other user also likes the profile. “You swipe right on profiles you’re interested in, and if the other person is also interested and swipes right on your profile, you can message, meet up, and submit a review for each other,” Oka explained.

The ongoing pandemic has created a massive job loss as businesses came to a grinding halt. As per the data by the Centre for Monitoring indian Economy (CMIE), the urban unemployment rate in India stood at 9.15% in June — higher than rural unemployment. “This initiative is even more relevant now with the coronavirus-induced economic crisis that has severely impacted businesses, thereby triggering unemployment on a large scale,” Masunaga added.

The application is available for both iOS and Android users. The details of the competition can be viewed here.

INTERVIEW WITH INSIGHTS SUCCESS

IT SOLUTIONS REDEFINING THE BENCHMARKS OF QUALITY

In the following interview with Insights Success, SavithaAD, the Chief Executive Officer at Kalus IT Solutions shares with us, her perceptions and discernments about the current IT industry and the related market. She also shares her vision for the company and its ceaseless journey towards business excellence.

Below are the highlights of the interview

Kindly brief us about you and your journey since the beginning of your career.

Basically, I am a Mangalorean and grew up in a small town named Shahabad in North Karnataka, studied in various places, and finally came to settle down in Bangalore. I started working at a Stock and Share Broker’s office, then switched to a Pharmaceutical Company and later on to a Beverages Company.

After a break of about three and half years, I came back to join an IT firm. That is when the real journey began. Juggling between home

and office, managing both the fronts well and ensuring to give my 100% to all that I did. In the past 20+ years, I have worked with organisations like Ionidea, Valtech India and Societe Generale, and since 2011 I have been with Klaus IT.

Kindly describe in brief about your company and its services/products.

Klaus IT Solutions is one of the leading ISO9001:27001 certified professional services and solutions companies. Klaus was established in 2011 and is headquartered in the Silicon Valley of India, Bangalore.

We provide innovative, efficient, and cost effective software solutions and services to IT and Engineering verticals. We leverage on mature and quality certified processes to provide customized solutions to our customers.

Klaus also provides workforce solutions due to which we are a preferred go-to supplier to Fortune 500 companies and product organizations. In 2019, Klaus opened a 200-seater Development Centre which has been enabled for 24/7 operations.

How do you keep yourself motivated? Please tell us about your idols, and inspiration.

My biggest inspiration is my family. My dad was a man who was full of life and always told, “Work is worship” and I grew watching him giving his best to all. I imbibed the same qualities and one thing which I am very proud of, is my confidence and enthusiasm that has taken me to places. I always believe in self-motivation and give myself a “pat on the back” for things that I do well. My husband and my daughter are the best critiques ensuring I stay grounded all the time.

Share with us the highest point, most memorable and remarkable moment of your life, professionally. Also, the lowest phase of your life or the toughest deal to crack.

It is every individual dream to be heading an organisation and when our team supported by our MD, Mr. Varma announced that I will have to take up the CEO’s role, that was a moment, I will cherish forever.

Toughest deal to crack was a Government project that we were bidding for. For two consecutive times, we lost the bid by just a whisker (as it was a closed bid tender) but finally when we won it the third time, it was worth all the effort.

Tell us about your passions, ambitions, and goals.

I always set very high goals for myself and worked smart/hard to reach this spot. I am very passionate about work but maintain a perfect work life balance. Our MD, colleagues, and teamwork in tandem in ensuring that we take Klaus to newer heights, so my goal is to ensure that we work collectively to make this happen.

Tell us your major achievements and your company’s achievements under your leadership.

I would rather say its Klaus’ achievements and I was instrumental in pushing through some important deals, be it new client acquisitions or bagging high value projects which improved the entire outlook of Klaus.

Tell us about the challenges you faced to withstand the complexities your industry. Brief us about the industry scenario from your perspective.

Everybody talks about diversity, but I have seen this in the true spirit at Klaus. We have an equal number of women leaders in our Executive Committee who are very efficiently managing their portfolios.

The entire outlook is changing but still women are left behind in the race and are forced to prioritise family over career. It is important to create a viable support system for women who are career oriented so that when they take a break and come back, they are at par with other colleagues. Also, the orthodox/traditional ways of doing business has changed to working remotely, going digital which certainly favours Women as they can multitask and find a perfect work life balance

What are the most important lessons you have learned throughout and would like to share?

Stay connected. Building strong relationships, be it with employees, clients, colleagues, family, friends has helped me sail through the toughest times in my life both personally and professionally

Where do you see yourself in the near future? Tell us about your future goals.

I am a contented person so happy in the space where I am currently. Professionally, I would like to see Klaus in the top 10 Companies to work. In terms of personal goals, I feel sad when I see people in old age homes, so I would certainly want to work towards helping people in this phase of their life.
