Sarich’s latest piece combines his favorite imagery with his favorite themes. Namely, the sea and religion, respectively. ^
INSIGHT 8
He rested his left hand on the haphazardly painted table, and the sleeve of his leather jacket receded to reveal a gorgeously intricate skull tattooed on the back of his hand, festooned in flourishing Día de Muertos aesthetic. The design was created by Sarich himself; the tattoo was inked by a student. On each knuckle of that same hand was a tattoo of an organ and anatomical component. Under his ring is a liver; his former fiancé called him “her liver-man.” Since that didn’t work out, Sarich tattooed three more symbols to the front of his knuckles, the sequence of them representing his chronology of love. Stomach, Heart, Liver, Y-Chromosome “My fiancé’s old nickname for me: she called me her liver-man. It didn’t work out. So, if you’re feeling it in your stomach, you’re falling in love in your heart with someone like this, ask yourself, “why?”

It would be against the writer’s best interest to admit to any illegal activities (like eating mushrooms, perhaps) with the publication of this story. Therefore, all references to hallucinogenic experiences or instances of drug consumption will be replaced with vague substitutions and ambiguous references to such activity (i.e. enlightenment, meditation, illumination, etc.)

The author is referring to information retrieved from the Addictions and Recovery website, which states that emotional symptoms of withdrawal from drugs and alcohol include anxiety, restlessness, irritability, insomnia, poor concentration, depression, social isolation. You hold in your hands (or on a table or bed or some sort of sufficiently flat surface) the latest iteration of INSIGHT Magazine. We hope that you’ve enjoyed it; not only is this issue the result of a tremendous amount of hard work, but also a representation of a student publication over a decade in the works (with origins as the Artemisia, the former yearbook of UNR dating back to the 1800’s). For the past two years in a row, INSIGHT has had the honor of winning the Associated Collegiate Press’s Third Place in their Best in Show category at their national convention. And we’re extremely proud of that. Thank you for supporting us. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. If you’re interested in getting involved with us, send an email saying so to editor@insightunr.com. Thank you, -Editor-in-Chief
