Making Sense of gymshark

Creating a classic, instantly recognisable and memorable brand mark along the lines of puma, lacoste & nike that works just as well isolated from the typography or along side it. With this approach we have simplified the brand down to a silhouette to create a mark that can be easily adapted to work in different situations. The graphic is a free flowing and aims to bring to life the brand and capture the natural fluid nature and athleticism of a shark as a perfect representation of gym sharks core customers. Colour coded sub brands allow you to create individual ranges & identities for specific disciplines such as running, cycling, swimming or any other future area you might like to expand into.

With route two we developed the original suggested approach, creating a solid shape with striking diagonals. This creates an unmissable brand mark that grabs the users attention and shouts ‘gymshark’. A bold, capitalised typeface combined with thick lines emphasises the strength of the brand, while the mouth & eyes communicates the gym shark attitude. Just like route one, colour coded sub-brands allow you to expand to future disciplines such as running, cycling, swimming etc.

A modern aggressive shark mark made up of straight lines and sharp edges help to emphasis the attitude of the brand while also being a unique and memorable mark that won’ t be easily forgotten. The shark while simplified down, oozes attitude and helps to create a distinct tone of voice for the brand. Just like route one & two colour coded sub-brands mean that future expansion is already considered and can be handled within the current brand guidelines.

This route takes a very angular, sharp and powerful approach with a sense of purpose and direction. The mark conveys the strength and movement behind the brand. The Typography points to the strength and power that training results in - essentially the journey from weak to powerful. This also results in another strong mark, so that the typography and shark can appear individually whilst still having enough of an identity to be instantly recognisable. The Š is a nice play on the copywrite mark and the sharks eye, bringing character to the logo, without making it a caricature. Future brand expansion can bring a personal touches to gymshark, with a handwritten font displaying sub-brands or possible straplines.

A strong, confident mark that demonstrates the power and direction of gymshark. The angular, stylised shark achieves a sense of confident determination - attitudes that anyone achieving their goals must have. Sub brands bring a colourful palette to the brand and an instantly recognisable key to the different areas of gymshark. The clean, strong typography mirrors the feel of the shark mark. Encapsulating these within the circle results in a stamp of quality and power - the gymshark logo.

Direction, movement and energy are all vital aspects of fitness, and this concept works to portray these elements. Three overlaying triangles form an abstract fin like shape within ‘gymshark’, which then multiply and move across all brand collateral. Triangles flow through posters, clothing and the website to really highlight the dynamic nature of the brand. This clear sense of direction and power mimicking that of a sharks movements. Subcategories can easily be added to the brand mark - as can straplines for future creative executions and brand expansion.
