Inspired by: fundraising This is Georgie. Georgie had Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severely disabling type of epilepsy presenting in infancy. Sadly, at just three years old, the family lost Georgie to SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in EPilepsy) This is Geoff, Georgie’s Dad. Geoff, and good friend Tim, are embarking on some incredible challenges to try to raise £15,000 in 2018 all in Georgie’s memory to be split between three organisations that played a huge part in her short life: Dravet UK, Naomi House and Adventure Pre-School

So far they have scaled mountains, run 100 miles in a month, taken part in 5k runs, 10k runs and marathon length walks, and have so much more planned for the rest of 2018 and beyond…...

Message From The Editor Welcome to the very first issue of Inspiration Magazine. I’m Toni, your Editor, and I hope that you enjoy reading the magazine that my team and I have put together for you. Speaking of which, I have to say a few thank you’s to my team, if I may. First, thank you to all the staff here at Inspiration for their dedication and hard work, long evenings and early mornings in getting everything in place for today’s launch. Next, to my very talented photographer and their assistants. I had a lot of fun getting the front cover shot of Towel Teddy just right and you can see some wonderful shots of our multiple “on location” photoshoots all over the magazine. This couldn’t have been achieved without your help, so thank you guys! Next I must say a HUGE thank you to Mary and Chloe and the whole team at Search Press who have submitted multiple craft ideas to us from their “twenty to make” range which I hope you enjoy trying your hand at. Ask your local craft retailer to see more from their range. To the advertisers who have taken a chance and supported us in this new venture I thank you from the bottom of my heart, as I do to the retailers who have taken a supply of Inspiration Magazine to hand out for free to you, our readers. Finally but by not means leastly, I thank you, our readers for taking this magazine and turning the pages. I hope you are inspired to try something new. Make sure you use our social media pages and the hashtag #beinspiredby to show us your work. If you need to ask a question, suggest a craft idea, talk about advertising or want copies of Inspiration Magazine to give away to your customers, please do get in touch with us by emailing hello@inspiration-magazine.co.uk So, onwards and upwards now to our next issue, I wonder what craft ideas the team have come up with for this one …..

Inspired by: Baking You can add all kinds of extras to the basic shortbread biscuit recipe to make it extra delicious, such as chocolate chips, nuts or maybe a little salt? However you choose to make yours, why not post a picture to social media using the hashtag #beinspiredby we’d love to see them! Make your shortbread suitable for a Vegan diet by substituting the butter for a plant based cooking spread.

You will need: 100g / 3.5oz sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

300g / 10.5oz plain flour, sifted, plus extra for dusting 200g / 7oz unsalted butter at room temperature, cut into small cubes Method:

Preheat oven to 160c/140f/Gas 3 and grease and line a baking tray with baking paper.

Beat the butter until pale and add the sugar, beat with a wooden spoon until smooth. Add the flour and mix until just incorporated (don’t over mix, it needs to still be a bit crumbly. Add any other ingredients you want such as chocolate chips, at this stage. Squeeze the dough together with your hands into a ball. Dust the worksurface with a little flour and press the dough out to around 5mm thick.

Cut using the shaped cutter of your choice, repeating this stage with the left over dough until all has been used. Place the shapes on the baking tray and put in the fridge for 10 minutes. Sprinkle a little sugar on top of each biscuit and bake for 15 minutes until golden brown. SERVING SUGESTION: On a plate with a cup of tea, in the garden!

Inspired by: Sewing As a dedicated crafter you will already know it’s always worth keeping those scraps of fabrics from all your other craft projects as you never know when they will come in handy! Try your hand at making this adorable button cushion and show us what you made by using the hashtag #beinspiredby on your social media.

Materials: Cushion fabric, linen or linen–cotton blend, 12½ x 36½in (32 x 93cm) Jelly Roll scraps to cover buttons, 6 pieces 2½ x 1½in (6.5 x 4cm) 6 plastic self-cover buttons, 1¼in (3cm) diameter Sewing thread to match cushion fabric 13¾in (35cm) cushion pad

Tools: Basic sewing kit Scissors Sewing machine Rotary cutting mat, ruler and cutter (optional) Pen to mark fabric Iron and ironing mat

Instructions: On the wrong side of the fabric, turn a 4in (10cm) double hem (turn over 2in/5cm and then 2in/5cm again) on one of the short ends. Machine stitch to secure. On the other short end, turn a 5in (13cm) double hem to the wrong side (turn over 2½in/6.5cm, then 2½in/6.5cm again). Machine stitch to secure, then stitch along the folded edge, 1⁄ 8in (0.25cm) in.

Inspired by: Sewing On the deepest hem end of the fabric on the right side, mark and stitch six buttonholes. These should be approximately 1½in (4cm) apart. To space them evenly, measure from the middle out towards the raw edges. Lay the fabric wrong-side up and fold in the edge with the buttonholes by 5in (13cm). Fold in the other end by 10in (25.5cm). The buttonholed end should overlap the longer end. Pin in place and then stitch along the raw edge to secure. You can zigzag to neaten if you like. Turn the cushion cover right-side out and press. Make the buttons by covering them in the Jelly Roll scraps following the button manufacturer’s instructions. Mark the button positions through the buttonholes, and stitch the buttons in place.

This project has been taken from the book Jelly Roll Scraps by Carolyn Forster in the Twenty To Make Range. Published by Search Press.

Inspired by: Food What?: Pumpkin and Sweet Potato Burgers Manufacturer: Vivera Available: Tesco / Waitrose / Ocado Price: £2.89 (2 per pack)

Expectations: Low - As a “veggie” burger, we guessed it would be lifeless and lacking in flavour. Reminiscent of a soggy hash brown that will fall apart in the pan.

Review: How wrong were we! These burgers are tremendously satisfying and filling. Their firm “meaty” texture surprised us all and they are bursting with flavour. Moist, delicious and so versatile, these burgers would be equally as delicious stuffed in a bun with some salad, or plain on the plate with some chips and beans. Taking just five minutes to cook in a pan with a little oil, they are a real healthy fast food burger, quicker and, in our opinion, more tasty than take out. Each burger is only 99 calories! Oh and did we mentions, these little beauties are 100% Vegan too ?!

Verdict: 9.5 / 10 We hope you have been inspired to try these succulent Pumpkin and Sweet Potato Burgers from Vivera for yourself. Post your own pictures or review on social media using the hashtag
