Our school is distinguished from other bilingual institutions in San José due to its unique approach. We nurture English proficiency from the outset for our Spanish-speaking students, but also prioritize the development of Spanish language skills for our international students. A BLENDED CURRICULUM

At Blue Valley School, we integrate top-tier educational methodologies throughout the entire learning journey. Starting with our youngest learners, we employ the Inspired Early Years Approach which is a fusion of teaching methods, including Reggio Emilia and Montessori, among others. As our students progress, we blend the finest international practices with the curriculum approved by the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education. Journey of Wonder: Unleashing Potential in Our Inspired Early Years Program

At Blue Valley School, we welcome students as young as three years old, introducing them to our Inspired Approach to Early Learning. This method seeks to nurture their creativity, encourages exploration, and fosters critical thinking from the outset. We firmly believe in the competence, curiosity, and relational nature of every young child. In our learning community we celebrate their individuality and take pride in recognizing their achievements and learning discoveries. Our philosophy emphasizes the importance of nurturing meaningful relationships, and understands that each child's inherent curiosity is what drives their learning process and overall development.

2nd to 5th

5,5 - 11 YEARS OLD

Building on a strong foundation in elementary, we continue to enhance bilingual literacy skills introduced in the Early Learning School, by focusing on competent literacy development. A US Common Core-aligned literacy program, we emphasize reading, writing, oral production skills, critical thinking, comprehension, and effective communication. The Mathematics program advances students by using content and objectives from a grade above, emphasizing a concrete understanding of concepts and problem-solving. The Elementary Science program fosters scientific mindsets through experiments and written evaluations. Formal Spanish instruction continues in Elementary, covering literature, spelling, grammar, and composition while complementing the local Costa Rican curriculum. Social Studies instruction begins in third grade, focusing on cartographic skills, and expands to Costa Rican geography and history in fourth and fifth grades, with practical learning experiences within the country.

School Hours:

• Early Learning School:

- Half-Day Program: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 7:15 am to 12:15 am

- Full-Day Program: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 7:15 am to 2:15 pm

• Preparatory to 12th Grade:

- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 7:15 am to 2:15 pm. 11th - 12th grade dismisses at 2:45.

Food and Nutrition

Our cafeteria offers healthy and delicious meals that cater to diverse tastes and dietary needs. We prioritize food safety and hygiene to ensure every meal meets the highest standards. It opens on the first day of school and closes on the last day. Students may also bring food from home.

Bus Routes

Blue Valley offers door-to-door or condominium-to-condominium bus services.

They will strictly comply with the guidelines stipulated by the Ministry of Transport for public and/or student transportation.

Application form

To start the admission process smoothly, we kindly ask parents to fill out the Application Form and provide the documents required in the checklist.

Admission Assessments

After completing your application the Admission Team will contact you to book an appointment for assessments. This is to gauge the student's skills and learning abilities for the right placement.

Registration

After receiving an offer, parents/guardians will be required to pay a registration fee to secure the student´s place at BVS.

Blue Valley School students can stay at one of our boarding schools in Europe, Asia or Africa from 4 weeks to up to a year. We hold your place open in Blue Valley School, so you don’t need to worry about what happens when your child returns home.

Every exchange offers a unique opportunity to explore new places, improve language skills,

make new friends and experience new cultures. All Inspired boarding schools ensure a premium experience and deliver on rigorous boarding standards. Students enjoy building deeper friendships and learn to be more independent, with the support of specialist boarding staff.

Students can choose to stay in one of our boarding schools across the world, or in a Homestay setup. Exchanges are available in Spain, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium South Africa, New Zealand and Vietnam. No matter where they choose, there is an exciting adventure awaiting them.
