Learn through play

Early Learning

The unique Inspired approach to Early Years combines the learning-through-play philosophy of Reggio Emilia, with additional numeracy and literacy activities to ensure that every young learner gets a head start. From kicking a ball, building with blocks and painting, to singing in a group, our specialised teachers encourage young learners to understand their environment and develop into happy, motivated students.

Exploration and evaluation

Primary Curriculum

We o er a more structured approach to the school day to help students build upon what they have learned in Early Years, embedding a deeper inclination to reading, writing and mathematics. Students will still be encouraged to explore and play, but they will also be able to describe their discoveries in words and numbers.

Communicate and articulate

As children are naturally curious, our Junior School encourages students to explore their interests while reinforcing numeracy and literacy skills. They learn to apply these foundational skills across subjects like Science, Arts, and History.

Deeper learning and results

Pupils in Year 7 and 8 follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales. Subjects studied include English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Art & Design, Drama, Music, French, Computing, PSHE, Spanish, Panamanian History & Geography and Physical Education. In Year 9, we continue to build upon the subjects taught in the previous two years, although in English, Science and Mathematics, pupils start to access GCSE-level content. Additional subjects include Geography, History, Art & Design, Drama, Music, French, Computing, PSHE, Spanish, Panamanian History, History and Physical Education.

Think and act

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

The nal two years at school mark the beginning of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). It aims to develop critical and compassionate thinkers who, as learners in the 21st century, are prepared for success at university and life beyond. In order to facilitate lifelong learning, we o er a challenging and balanced two-year curriculum.

Becoming a Successful (I)GCSEs Student

Years 10 and 11 mark a very intense period of study under the British system as students begin to prepare for, and then take, examinations known as (I)GCSEs –(International) General Certi cates of Secondary Education.

Students will be expected to be more independent in their study habits and enter into a regular revision programme whereby they are reviewing and revisiting topics they have covered in preparation for the examinations at the end of Year 11. All students study Mathematics, English, Spanish, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at (I)GCSE level.

The International GCSEs are are the national British curriculum exams taken at the end of Year 11. The (I)GCSE content is more global in its context.

In addition, students can choose from the following subjects: Art, Computing, French,

Geography, History, Physical Education. (I)GCSEs encourage learner-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning. They develop learners’ skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem-solving, giving excellent preparation for the next stage in their education. We extend the core curriculum to suit each student's need and introduce cross-curricular perspectives to ensure learning is broad and engaging.

(I)GCSE develop a learner's knowledge, understanding and skills in:

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Having completed their studies under the (I)GCSE model until the age of 16, sixth form students are o ered a continuity of learning through the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP)an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with nal examinations. It is undertaken by pupils between the ages of 16-19 (Year 12 and 13) and is speci cally designed to prepare students for success in higher education and to be active participants in a global society.

The Diploma Programme prepares students for e ective participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society, allowing students to:

• Develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

• Acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, studying courses from six subject groups.

• Develop the skills and a positive attitude towards learning that will prepare them for higher education.

• Study at least two languages and increase cultural understanding, including of their own.

• Make connections across traditional academic disciplines and explore the nature of knowledge through the programme’s unique Theory of Knowledge course.

• Undertake in-depth research into an area of interest, through the lens of one or more academic disciplines, in the extended essay.

• Enhance their personal and interpersonal development through creativity, action and service.

The IB Curriculum

IBDP students must choose one subject from each of the ve groups (1 to 5), ensuring a breadth of knowledge and understanding in their native language, additional language(s), the social sciences, the experimental sciences and Mathematics. Students must also choose either an Arts subject from group 6, or a second subject from groups 1 to 5. DP subjects can be taken at a standard or a higher level. At least three and not more than four subjects are taken at the higher level (240 teaching hours),while the other subjects are taken at standard level (150 teaching hours).

In addition to disciplinary and interdisciplinary study, the Diploma Programme features three core elements that broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.

The Core of the Diploma Programme

• The extended essay asks students to engage in independent research through an in-depth study of a question relating to one of the DP subjects they are studying. The World Studies extended essay option allows students to focus on a topic of global signi cance that they examine through the lens of at least two DP subjects.

• The theory of knowledge develops a coherent approach to learning that uni es the academic disciplines. In this course on critical thinking, students enquire into the nature of knowing and deepen their understanding of knowledge as a human construction.

• Creativity, action, service (CAS) involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies throughout the Diploma Programme. Creativity encourages students to engage in the Arts and creative thinking. Action seeks to develop a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. Service with the community o ers a vehicle for new learning with academic value. The three strands of CAS enhance students’ personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning and enable journeys of self-discovery.

Sports and Clubs

In addition to the core academic curriculum at King´s College School Panama, we are also proud to have a multitude of clubs and extracurricular activities, as these enhance each individual student’s personal pursuits and passions.

Traditionally sports and team-play have been an important part of physical and mental development at Inspired schools. Being part of a team teaches children to understand tactics, cooperation and fair-play. We hope that children at King´s College School Panama learn to be chivalrous winners and gracious losers.

Involvement in competitive sports is fun, but the real value is in developing teamwork and working hard physically towards a goal. Children's health is as important as their intellectual growth and we provide physical education in the curriculum as well as opportunities to play competitive sports a er school.

Caring for your children

We want children to be part of a positive, friendly and supportive environment where they learn to demonstrate respect for others. We support all students to achieve their best, be happy at school and enjoy learning.

We help pupils with any di culties they may encounter. From small children in our Early Years Department, to older children studying their (I)GCSEs or the IB Diploma, it is important that every child feels safe and welcome.

Our pastoral and well-being leader ensures that all students’ needs are planned for and met through the curriculum and assembly programme, as well as providing counselling to support their emotional needs and well-being on an individual basis.

From home to a house

From the day a child starts at King’s College School Panama, they are assigned to one of the four houses. The older house members support the younger or new students. There are events and projects that build friendly competition between the houses and create bonds across the school years.

Making a mentor

Mentors are older students appointed to help younger students with new concepts, and to assist peers who are struggling with a particular class or subject. Teaching others helps the mentor consolidate their learning, while supporting the other students in their studies.

The school community

Parents are an important part of life at King’s College School Panama. As a basic principle, we actively encourage parent-school communication in order to build a strong school community. Involvement in a community is a key part of life, as is the connection to the schools in the Inspired Group. Through our curriculum, we also engage the wider-world communities in order to further enrich our school.

Similarly, to build a wider sense of community, King’s College School Panama holds regular events during which students and families can get to know each other and the school sta in a more informal and fun environment. Social events, ranging from school sports days to the annual school fair and artistic performances and shows, are opportunities where parents can meet one another, and talk to teachers.

We endeavour to involve parents fully in their children’s education and we see this partnership as an essential aspect of our care for every individual. When your child starts at King's College School Panama, your whole family joins the King's community.

Points of Contact

On a collective level, there is a regular ow of information to parents and students via newsletters, social media and events. Families are provided with regular written reports on the child’s development to review your child’s academic and social progress, and a series of parent-teacher consultation evenings are arranged. The Head of School and teaching sta are also available to discuss pressing matters that cannot wait until the next consultation evening.

For students in the Infant and Junior schools, the class teacher and learning assistant are the initial points of contact

for help and advice about academic and social development, either through their class teaching or on an individual basis. In Secondary school, students are assigned a tutor who is responsible for their academic and social welfare.

When students have to make academic choices at the (I)GCSE and IB Diploma levels and for university entrance, they receive individual support from our very experienced university counselling team.

The senior management team is also available to advise you and your child on any problems or questions that you may have.

SCHOOL LIFE

The school day

A typical day at King’s College School Panama will begin at 8:00am and end at 3:20pm. Younger learners will have one break in the morning and lunchtime, with a second break in the a ernoon, while older students will have a break before and another a er lunchtime.

Food and nutrition

The school provides healthy balanced meals using natural ingredients. A healthy diet will be promoted through Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) lessons. Furthermore, we will accommodate special diets upon request.

Language learning

At King’s College School Panama, we regard foreign language acquisition of key importance for internationally minded children and families. Therefore, in addition to our regular curriculum, we also o er opportunities to learn French, Spanish or Chinese.

Join the King’s College School Family

Our policy throughout the admissions process is to allocate the appropriate placement for the candidate so that they may bene t fully from the education we o er.

We are experienced with student transfers at all year groups and work closely with the pupils' previous school to ensure the smoothest transition - academically and pastorallythrough our well-established induction programmes.

Enrolment Process

Step 1

Submitting an application form with an application fee of $150.

Step 2

Attending a tour of the school with the child, accompanied by the Head of Admissions.

Step 3

Completing a GL Cat-4 student assessment, with the exception of Nursery and Reception students, who meet with the Head of Early Years.

Step

Submitting reports from the student's current school, as well as documents related to the admission process.

Step

Receiving an o er letter.

Step

Paying the admission or entrance fee depending on the schedule chosen by the family.

Students can stay at one of our boarding schools in Europe, Asia or Africa from 4 weeks to up to a year. We hold your place open at your original school, so you don’t need to worry about what happens when your child returns home.
