During your stay, we hope you find time to enjoy our natural resources such as the beautiful white-sand beaches in Navarre or the peaceful Blackwater River that winds its way through Milton. Santa Rosa County offers something for everyone, whether you are an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys the beach, golfing, hunting, fishing, hiking, zip lining, or canoeing, or someone that simply wishes to explore the rich history of our community. Visitors looking for high octane adventure and peaceful serenity are equally happy here. Santa Rosa County is also proud to be the home of Naval Air Station Whiting Field where the greatest pilots in the world receive their training. We love our military men and women and many of them choose to make Santa Rosa County their permanent residence after retiring from active duty. AT A GLANCE GEOGRAPHY Santa Rosa County is located in the Florida Panhandle, bordered to the south by the Gulf of Mexico, west by Escambia County and east by Okaloosa County. North Santa Rosa is comprised, primarily, of forest and agricultural land, with the town of Jay being the central community. Milton, the county seat, is located in central Santa Rosa, north of the bays and south of the forested areas. South Santa Rosa County encompasses the area from Holley and Navarre in the east to Gulf Breeze (at the far western edge of the Peninsula), Santa Rosa Sound, East Bay and Pensacola Bay. The lifestyle here is shaped by four major bodies of water: the Gulf of Mexico, Blackwater River, Yellow River and East River. This is a fast-growing region due, in part, to Naval Air Station Whiting Field, and nearby military installations Hurlburt Field, Elgin Air Force Base, and Pensacola Naval Air Station. The county is bisected by I-10 and U.S. 90 to the north and U.S. 98 in the south, which runs along the Gulf Coast through Gulf Breeze. CLIMATE Santa Rosa County offers warm, sunny summers and brief, mild winters. Temperate breezes off the Gulf of Mexico create a moderate climate year round. Summer highs can reach into the high 90 degree range; winter lows normally fall into the mid to low 40s with dips below freezing. Water temperatures tend to be 56-58 degrees in winter and remain in the 80s during the summer. Rainfall averages about 16 inches a year, primarily in the form of scattered showers. Beyond the boundaries of our cities and towns lies the incomparable wonder and loveliness of the natural environment that beckons to us all with its opportunities for adventure. You may choose to challenge your skills on one of numerous golf courses, canoe, kayak or paddle board peaceful pristine rivers, streams and bays; including the self -guided Blackwater Maritime Heritage Trail, fly through the treetops on a zipline tour, explore a birdlovers paradise, hike or bicycle miles of trails—whatever your choice, you will find yourself delighted with the array of activities available in Santa Rosa. For those who enjoy the heartpounding excitement of racing, you can feed your adrenalin rush at the local drag strip, or at one of the region’s best dirt tracks featuring Cajun sprint and stock car racing. Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation As the Arts Agency for Santa Rosa County, the mission of the Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation is to vitalize, promote and enrich the arts and culture in Santa Rosa County, Florida. The purpose of this organization is to be a catalyst for growth and appreciation of the visual arts, literary arts, performing arts, and historic and cultural preservation for the people of Santa Rosa County; to encourage continued development of the arts and culture; and to foster charitable, educational, and recreational activities in the arts through support of arts and cultural programs on a local and regional basis. Imogene Theatre This historic 1912 theater in Milton, once a vaudeville playhouse, was later converted to show “moving pictures.” Featuring an elaborate proscenium arch over the stage, wooden dance floor and
tiered balcony, she is available for rent for weddings, parties, recitals and meetings in addition to being a venue for numerous music events throughout the year. West Florida Railroad Museum. The West Florida Railroad Museum in Milton was created to preserve the Northwest Florida and South Alabama railroad legacy, centering around the L&N Railroad. Historical Bagdad Village Visitors and residents enjoy visiting the historical village of Bagdad, the site of beautifully restored antebellum-era homes, including the Thompson House which still displays the writings of soldiers who camped there in October 1864. The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Office had another record-breaking year in 2019 with a total annual bed tax collected that broke over 3.9 million. We continue to focus on the relaxing side of Santa Rosa County and continue to update our marketing platforms with a new local Cookin’ Up Relaxation booklet, new photography and more. We are working on
refreshing the aesthetics of Navarre Beach with new shower stations, sunshades and bike racks. We have also been supportive in funding of the new Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce building on Avalon Blvd. and the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge on Hwy. 87 in Holly/ Navarre. We continue to promote our destination as Florida’s Most Relaxing Place.
Leadership Leadership Santa Rosa is a program of the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce, launched in 1984-85 to prepare participants for leadership roles in the community. The program is directed by the Leadership Executive Committee -- all graduates of the program -- with the aid of the chamber staff. In the program’s instruction year (from January through December), participants explore the issues, challenges and opportunities facing Santa Rosa County and Northwest Florida both today and into the future.

HAAS Center The Haas Center is a research and consulting arm of the University of West Florida that engages in applied research and strategy development in economics and across the social sciences. The Haas Center has played a prominent role in economic development efforts across the Northwest Florida Region and around the state for the past two decades. The Haas Center is independently funded solely by project revenue that our team generates. Our staff is composed of economists, political scientists, industrial organizational psychologists, multi-media specialists and GIS analysts, as well as database and IT experts.
