DAVID BANKS From Heavy Metal Man to Funny Man David Banks is an American film and television actor and musician. He has appeared in more than 100 television commercials in roles of leading man, boyfriend, son, husband, father, the regular guy/common man, poor sap, the dorky guy, complaining idiot and more. In 2004, David Banks made his film debut in the drama DOING HARD TIME with Steven Bauer, Boris Kodjoe, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Giancarlo Esposito. David studied and performed at The Groundlings in Los Angeles. Alumni include John Lovitz, Will Farrell, Chris Katan, and Lisa Kudrow. David has appeared in commercials for Coors Light, Samsung, Eastwood, Reebok, Motorola, Best Buy, Hoover, Elephant Insurance, Little Caesar’s, Comcast, Red Robin, Mitsubishi, EA Games, Ditech, Milk, and Citibank, among others. He was selected to join Lisa Kudrow, Janeane Garofalo, and Fred Willard in the new cartoon LOVESICK FOOL, directed by Dominic Polcino (The Simpsons, Family Guy, and King of the Hill). David Banks is also a writer and co-wrote the film CUT! in 2014, about an ex-con and an aspiring filmmaker who set out to make a film; however, when it goes too far –– someone actually dies –– the pair decide that killing for real on film is the way to make a truly terrifying movie. David just finished shooting alongside Heather Graham in her directorial debut HALF MAGIC with Chris D'Elia, Molly Shannon, Thomas Lennon, and Stephanie Beatriz. In addition to acting, David plays drums for The 3 Heads. His band has shared the stage with Sara Bareilles, Five for Fighting, The Crash Kings, Dishwalla, Gary Jules, and DaDa. Whenever I need a good laugh or feel like having coffee squirt out of my nose, I look up David Banks. He calls himself an actor, but in reality, he has no reality, so he can call himself whatever he wants and it fits perfectly for whatever mood he’s in that day. Watch David Bank’s 2016 commercial reel (on ACT's Facebook page or www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=188&v=-2cE0bttz8A) , or read the interview then you MUST view on the video.
As soon as I saw MTV exchange the heavy hitting bands like Def Leppard and Whitesnake, for Alice & Chains and Pearl Jam, I knew I was doomed. I traded in my drums sticks and cans of Aqua Net for a suit and some silly Groundlings classes.
Were you in bands growing up? I always had a few bands at any given time. I think its a typical ADHD drummer thing. We can never really focus on just one thing at a time.
David Banks made the move to Los Angeles right after high school to attend Musicians Institute and be in the next heavy metal super group. That's because the day he made that decision, he'd also decided he was a rock star.
I was driving my parents nuts with eight hours a day of drumming and having several band practices throughout the week in our music room. I would only leave the room for an occasional bathroom break and a few fig newtons from the kitchen. I blame my mom for blasting Fleetwood Mac so loud as a child.
That was your life plan? When did you find out you were funny? Well that was the plan until what I call the Nirvana phase took over. I was never a fan of the sad, suicidal Seattle scene. Plus I never looked good in flannel shirts.

Meet A Hard Working Performer
British actor DENVER ISAAC chatted with ACT Magazine about life before acting, drama schools and his role in the hit TV drama ‘A.D. The Bible Continues’.
Denver the initial taste for acting, it wasn’t until he had emigrated to England that he decided to follow this career path. “I realized I wanted to be an actor in three memorable and funny stages. The first being watching Clint Eastwood’s cowboy films, I just mentioned. The second stage was when I spent more time playing in the garden as an actor performing in-front of the flowers and bushes pretending they were thousands of spectators watching me, and the third came when I began attending Chicken Shed Theatre when I moved to London. Chicken Shed is a wonderful place where kids with all sorts of abilities and backgrounds mix and make fun and inspiring theatre. The youth group I joined at that theatre became, and still is, an emotional inspiration for me because it made me realize that

STUDIO SPOTLIGHT

This month’s “Studio Spotlight” focus
is on SubRoy Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. Owner, Terran Noir, opened SubRoy in 2012 as home for the (at that time) 6 yr. old Dance Company that had been thriving with-

out a formal place of residence. SubRoy’s mission has always been to serve as the hub of commercial dance training within the city of Memphis. Students were not sought after. They just showed up; ready to have fun, work hard, make new friends, and push towards fulfilling their dreams.
SubRoy Studios, under the leadership
of instructor and choreographer, Terran Noir, has trained dancers whom we have all seen at some point. Terran and Memphis are extremely proud of the SubRoy Alumni company
Whether you are just starting out or a professional dancer, this section is for YOU! STUDIO SPOTLIGHT: As professional dancers, these artists have dedicated years upon years to their craft in order to become one of the best. Have you ever wondered where they come from? Or how they achieved such success? Somewhere their home towns, there are studios and instructors who have poured countless hours into molding these dancers’ talent, passion, and dreams. Each month, Studio Spotlight will shine a light on the under-recognized work of the people behind the performers, whose mission is to nurture the seedling of talent recognized in each dancer that enters their studio. A DANCER'S LIFE can be emotional, spiritual, inspiring and most certainly, never long enough. Years and years of strenuous training, long hours, sore muscles, and aching bones are so worth it when dance is truly your passion. This creativity never leaves the mind or spirit of a dancer. Yet over time, the body can’t seem to grand jete’ like it used to and the knees refuse to plie’. So what do we do when the soul says yes, “dance”! But the body says, no? What’s next? This segment will hopefully inspire those of you who are at the “what’s next” moment of your lives. It will help you to discover creative ways to continue to fuel your passion and live your dancer’s life to the fullest. Each month we will take a journey with amazing performers who have done just that and are now living the hereafter of “a dancer’s life”.
members who are trailblazers for the next generation of Mid-South dancers. He has performed with Justin Timberlake and is currently one of Missy Elliot’s featured dancers. • KYNDALL HARRIS, is the youngest SubRoy Alum to make her mark in the dance world. i have a question! ACT has answers!
• Dear ACT: My name is Stacy and I am a singer, dancer, actor and model. I am 16 years old and I am frustrated with my teeth. I feel like they are stained (from normal use) and I would like to lighten them. I don't even like to smile in my pictures. My mom said I could try a natural method, but would not let me go to a professional until I was over 18. She also said she wouldn't pay for it because she didn't believe in it, that it could harm my teath. What do you think?
Hi Stacy, I totally get it, when it comes to white teeth and smiling. We are shown on TV, the big screen and practally every photo out, there really white smiles. But the truth of the matter is that not every smile is pure white. Teeth are all different shades of white, blue-white to yellow-white. Next time you are at the dentist, have them show you the models that show the many shade of white for teeth. They use the models when they are making dentures and crowns. SUGGESTED & WRITTEN BY

As a young person of the next generation, I bet you have a lot to say. You are doing so much for your friends, your families, your communities, your world. You work hard, train hard, study hard and play hard. So, we want to hear from you! This section is just for you. Do you have something to say? Ideas or topics you would like to share? Maybe topics you would like us to explore? Questions for us to answer? Maybe you know interesting people and would like to interview them? Have you taken photos or won awesome awards? Please let us know! Clear it
Actors and performers will use harsh whiteners to whiten their teeth, And some do it so often that their smile starts to look blue and with it comes an increase the sensitivity to hot and cold food and liquid, We see toothpaste commercials asking us to take the 'tissue test' by holding up a tissue to our smile to see if it is as white as a tissue. I actually have a darker (and more yellow) shade white for my teeth, while my daughter has a more whiter shade. As we get older our teeth also change color, based on the amount of enamal we have on our teeth, It is so important to take good care of your teeth so you have them in your later years. While my daughter was in another country, she was introduced to oil pulling to freshen breath and whiten teeth naturally. This is only one natural suggestion. There are many if you do an internet search. The basic concept here is swishing oil (like coconut or sesame) in the mouth for 20 minutes to help remove plaque and bacteria from the mouth. Coconut oil has been proven effective against the streptococcus mutans bacteria that contributes to cavities and gum disease. When used on a regular basis, oil pulling will leave your teeth feeling smooth and shiny. I love the way they feel. Many say that they can see a reduction of plaque at dental cleanings. What to do: Swish with a small amount of coconut oil for 20 minutes a day, preferably first thing in the morning before eating. Many suggest doing this while showering to make the time go by faster! Celebrate Halloween with friends
and a Spooky movie!
by Andrew Hawnt
How can you celebrate Halloween on a budget? What sort of films would make a great Halloween party? How about Halloween themed collectibles? Here author Andrew Hawnt takes a look at having a creepy night without breaking the bank. Halloween is almost upon us once again, and the proliferation of celebratory items available in mainstream stores got me thinking- why isn't Halloween made into even more of an event? Like a spooky Christmas. Think about it- you could have Halloween tree surrounded with sweets and rotting carcasses, and then you could all sit down to a Halloween dinner of roast pumpkin and goblin pie. Seriously though, it could be turned into more than just Trick Or Treating and bobbing for apples. Plus, there's more out there than just toffee apples to give out as Halloween gifts. It isn't just kids that can celebrate Halloween. Taking it as the commercial version of Halloween and not the religious festival observed by the pagan community (Samhain, prononced 'Sow-en' or 'Savven' depending on who you talk to), Halloween can be a blast for kids and adults, and can serve as a bonding experience for families. Involving children in Halloween styled games can be a great way to entertain youngsters and educate them on traditional pastimes (even when their origins have become so obscured by popular culture). Dressing up, getting made up as witches and monsters and the like can be fantastic fun for all involved, and properly supervised Trick-Or-Treating is a great thing for making memories. Another good method for making a Halloween party night memorable for children would be to gather a group together for a mini Halloween party before going Trick-or-treating. read them a spooky story, or show a suitable movie. But Halloween isn't limited to the domain of kids, and nor should it be. With all manner of themed events on in clubs, cinemas and so on there's a ton that the adult Halloweener can sink their teeth into (sorry). There's a great deal of Halloween themed merchandise that would make great gifts for loved ones, such as licensed horror movie memorabilia and other horror merchandise such as action figures, posters, statues, and the movies themselves. You could check out things like the ever-creepy Living Dead Dolls figures, or the movie collectibles created by MacFarlane Toys, NECA and Sideshow Collectibles. Want a great Halloween evening in? How about you gather a selection of friends, some suitably kitsch horror movies (Go for the cheese more than the hardcore dark stuff- zombie films, cheap B-movies, Chucky, Underworld, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and its billion sequels, films you can shout at),
ActDanceModelSing.com
Page 28
Want a fun evening's viewing? Check out any of the following horror flicks for some spooky entertainment: For the younger crowd: NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, CORALINE, POOH'S HEFFALUMP HALLOWEEN MOVIE, HARRY POTTER, HE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW (1949 version), IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN, HOCUS POCUSCORPSE BRIDE, BEETLEJUICE, CASPER, HALLOWEENTOWN, THE WORST WITCH, GREMLINS, BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, LABYRINTH, THE WITCHES, THE BLACK CAULDRON and HALLOWEEN IS GRINCH NIGHT. For teens and adults: CREEPSHOW, DAY OF THE DEAD, TRICK OR TREAT, POLTERGEIST, THE EVIL DEAD, FRIDAY THE 13TH, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, BAD DREAMS, HELLRAISER, EVIL DEAD 2, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 2: HELLRAISER II, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, RE-ANIMATOR, SCANNERS, THE BURNING, CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH (okay, this is a spoof but it still a great flick), FROM BEYOND, HOUSE, 976:EVIL, WITCHBOARD, WARLOCK, THE THING, BAD TASTE, CAT PEOPLE, CHILD'S PLAY, CAT'S EYE, CHOPPING MALL (BEST. TITLE. EVER), DEAD ZONE, THE GATE, THE HUNGER, KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, MONSTER SQUAD, SOCIETY, SORORITY BABES IN THE SLIMEBALL BOWL-O-RAMA..... Jeez, there's thousands of 'em. Go seek out some fun.
TM TM TM
Halloween snacks (stock up on kids snacks and themed sweets- there's nobody saying the grown-ups can't have some fun too), add some suitably camp music (I recommend 'Project 1950' and 'American Psycho' by the Misfits, and anything by the Cramps) and voila, you have the makings of a fun Halloween party in your own home. Granted, that sounds like a pretty regular night in at our house, but still, there are people out there who are more normal. Somewhere. Get your place decked out with cobwebs and skulls and make an event out of it. When choosing movies for your Halloween night, I'd suggest finding a bunch of 80s horror titles, as they really do capture the right fun atmosphere you'd need for an evening making fun of everything with your friends. Why 80s? Listen. While some may argue we are enjoying something of a resurgence in 'true' horror movies, with your million SAW sequels and million remakes of classics, I am left wondering what happened to the horror films that would have you yelling 'COOL!' amidst your screams. The 1980s are a fine example of an era in which horror films had all the horror stuff down pretty well yet mixed in a liberal dose of humour and fun without becoming parodies. While the horror genre has become either more serious or more bland in recent years (or both), with endless repetitions of the same tired old themes, old gorehounds like myself are left wanting something that isn't being delivered of late, namely films that you want to watch again. You see, a major problem with current horror cinema is that companies are making PRODUCT instead of FILMS. You can go on Netflix, and other on-line provider or go to a store with a DVD section and find rack upon rack of Wrong Turn/Scream/Hostel/Halloween knockoffs that are
magazine
cheap and easy to make, and there's barely a memorable title amongst them. There are so many ways to make your Halloween a fun night to remember. Kick off with a movie night as suggested, then go along to a Halloween themed party or show, preferably in costume. Check local listings for events in your area that you can go along to and take part in. If all this sounds like a no-brainer, that's because it is. With a small amount of effort you can change what has become a relentlessly commercial day into something you can genuinely enjoy without a huge amount of cost. Halloween celebrations shouldn't be all about handing out sweets to bored kids on your doorstep- it should be enjoyed and relished. I mean, how often can you actually run around with a plastic trident and horns on during the rest of the year?

Reviews: “Finally a book that sounds like me. I LOVE this book! I know that I am okay just the way I am. Thank You!” -- Linsay, age 9
“Thank you for helping me to understand what my child is going through, in such a meaningful way.” -- Michelle S. A.D.D. IN POETRY:
One Family’s Journey with Attention Deficit Disorder by: Jennifer East
About the Book A.D.D. in Poetry, One Family’s Journey with Attention Deficit Disorder, is a collection of uplifting and meaningful poetry paired with delightful color illustrations, that will warm the hearts of its readers and will remind them that there is life after the ADD/ADHD diagnosis. This book is written in a simple, down-to-earth language and offers insight to an ADD/ ADHD child’s mind. Each poem expresses thoughts and feelings on how one can live and enjoy today and will inspire one to never give up hope for a better tomorrow. This book can be a wonderful gift to a loved one and/or caregiver experiencing ADD/ADHD first hand. Review
“If you feel uncomfortable, frustrated, confused about ADD in yourself or a family member, this book offers a healing perspective.” -- Florida Today News
I am not a doctor, but having to care for four ADD children and share a relationship with an ADD husband, I feel I may have practical experiences to share with others. My children have shared their experiences and have given their stamps of approval on each poem. It is a reflection of how they feel about themselves. I also hope to leave the reader a sense that they are not alone in their daily journey with Attention Deficit Disorder.
