ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS The Institute for Family-Owned Business is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization committed to supporting, strengthening and empowering family-owned businesses throughout the state of Maine. The Institute serves family business owners, executives and employees through a wide range of continuing education programs, networking opportunities and consulting services. The Institute is a comprehensive resource for family-owned business.


Strengthening Family Business is the core of our mission The Institute for Family-Owned Business helps family businesses succeed so they can pass it on to the next generation. To accomplish this mission we have developed four affinity groups. These groups meet several times a year for networking and discussion on issues of interest to members. Space is limited and advance reservation is required for many of these groups. Our Affinity Groups include: CEO Central – A facilitated roundtable discussion designed exclusively for family business CEOs. This group meets five times a year and the remaining programs are July 14, September 1 and November 17. Sponsored by Mainebiz. Connectworking – Kim Kalicky, RM Davis; Catherine Wygant Women’s Leadership Forum – Fossett, IFOB; Susan Dench Success & Co; Susan Morris, A facilitated roundtable discussion with fellow The NewHeight Group; Melinda Irish, Baker Newman Noyes women in leadership roles in family business. Our goals for this forum include support, encouragement, inspiration and information. This group meets three times a year and the next meeting is Wednesday, October 28. Connectworking Exercises

Women in Family Business – A series of programs designed by women focusing on education that is important and useful to them. This group meets six times a year with two golf clinics and four programs. Our first golf clinic is Thursday, June 25, 4-6 p.m. at the Falmouth Country Club with another one on Tuesday, August 25, 4-6 p.m. at the Nonesuch River Golf Club. Our next programs are “Challenges and Solutions for Today’s Modern Family” on Thursday, September 17 and “Stress Management & Mindfulness” tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 19. WIFB Golf Clinic August 2014

Next Generation – All generations working in a family business benefit from the information provided in these meetings. Participants learn: communications, transitions, generational management styles, balancing family and family business, and more! This group meets six times a year with two additional open sessions. The open sessions for the fall focus on “Speed Mentoring: Making connections for protégés and mentors” and “A panel discussion with CEO’s who have taken over as the Next Generation.” Sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
